It isn't foolish at all. Xbox live is better than PSN. Why? Because the money is there to pay for

It's not automatic though, that's what I mean. If this service went paid that doesn't automatically mean it would have better security. There are plenty of paid for services that have large issues.

Yes, but those services may not have the wealth of knowledge of Sony or Microsoft.

If Sony rolled out a paid PSN it would have to be greatly improved. If not, most of the user base would "jump ship".

Whereas MS can just carry on as they are. Their live is regarded as the better of the two.

So why Sony is at it redesigning their PSN, why not future proof it and make use of their £380 million investment and possibly their ever growing relationship with nvidea and use the nvidea grid?

Like I said further up, I never said they wouldn't use Gakai in some way, I'm sure they will. I was just saying that disc based solutions are still better for me and they're not going anywhere soon.

Well like I said before, what would the harm be in introducing 2 systems? If you want the disk based system you pay for it, lets say £450. Cloud based, you don't need half the processing power or the HDD. So you could market it for £100, but charge for the server £10 a month.

The prices are just an example.

Personally I'd rather have a physical copy of the game. That's just me. But if I have to download everything I want, I don't want to keep upgrading the HDD.

Nothing wrong with that at all, never said there was. I only started this conversation because you suggested cloud based gaming was better than disc based media when you said "which IMO isn't good enough for the next gen" of the latter.

No. I said that the online section of gaming wasn't good enough. Which it isn't.

Like I said earlier...

I'm failing to see how a streaming solution would be any better. You still need to make a connection to the game in the cloud, using the same connection you do now, then make P2P connections through the cloud to other gamers. It's open to exactly the same issues we have now.

If not streaming then what?

Cloud based servers eliminate lag, dependant on the users latency. Last year 25% of the households in the USA had a bandwidth of over 5mbps. This is enough for cloud based gaming. The percentage is only going to go up, and as other country's infrastructure gets better so will the ability to deliver a service like this.

I completely believe in cloud based servers expanding the capabilities of next gen consoles, like I said before if not the PS4 then the generation after.

It doesn't matter where the game is, the online quality is still determined by your bandwidth ergo the solution is only time and improvements to our internet services, not with any solution the consoles might have.

Still the PS4 should improve things if they have better overall netcode, the PS3 is pretty shoddy. The extra RAM should help, they'll finally be able to offer cross game chat and other features I should hope.

I don't think there is too much to worry about the controller. Think of it this way, if the controller it comes with is dreadful, I'm sure it would be possible to use the ds3 instead. For example, I have a £1.50 adapter that lets me use a PS2 controller on my PS3 :)

I'm sure it's been said in most rumour leaks that the PS3 controller will still be compatible. No reason why it shouldn't be really, the only reason previous generations weren't is because the connector changed. No reason PS4 won't still use Bluetooth.

That's true. PS1 controllers worked fine with the PS2, too. And Bluetooth is pretty universal, anyways.

The only problem would be if the controller came with some sort of feature that the DS3 lacks.

In fairness the Sixaxis in the DS3 is old obsolete tech. The gyro in the Vita is light years better than the one in the DS3. Even in PS move its way better. An updated Sixaxis would be welcome. Killzone 2/3 made small but interesting uses for it.

Dunno. Unless it's used a bit better than SixAxis, wouldn't it be better to just forgoe such controller-based features in order to keep the DS3 around?

I can't remember ever using the six-axis. It's wasn't useful at all.

This.

Then you've never played Killzone 2/3 then. It is your opinion based on your experiences on how useful it is/was. Mine differs.

Some games do use it, sparingly but it was used. It's only bad in the DS3 due to the poor technology. It's in PS move and inside PS Vita and both are fluid and responsive. The games that use the improved technology make good use for it.

I have both an open mind and an imagination and could think of many uses to use an improved Sixaxis in PS4, not the DS3's old tech though.

When one persons finds something useless that doesn't mean a company should scrap it, That's means just don't use it.

Amounts of concepts is too damn high

And they're all pretty lame as it goes. I should do a terrible 3D model which flies in the face of what's established to be good and make up some new technology that it'll probably have.

Like 19" Blu Rays which hold 67 times as much as a conventional Blu Ray, but it comes as a separate add-on unit which plugs in to a specific, proprietary port on the back. The controller has an Arm 45 processor and a 5K screen built in which can play PS4 quality games on it and the console itself is actually a water feature with three modes: waterfall, fountain and whirlpool. This is because Call of Duty 10 is hugely infuriating and the calming effect of the water feature saves you money on new controllers.

Also it floats, changes colour depending on the weight of the electricity in your house and is completely made up. Of conventional plastics.

I've seen that one before as a concept for the slim PS3. What a joke.

That's not true. It was great for reloading guns in GTA IV, and... um... exploiting a glitch to shoot a couple hard to get seagulls in GTA IV.

I agree, the fan made concepts mostly suck and are are mocked up without any thought given to current brand aesthetic or realistic technological performance. Most seem to be just photoshoped bits off Sony stuff from like 5 years ago to make it look like something, that or they look plain bonkers. It's fine to have an idea of what you hope it will be like but when its paraded around like you work for them (writing up specs etc) its slightly sad IMO.

Robin.

Maybe the fan made mock ups are just for fun not intended to look official.
