but how much is it worth today though? Back when the hardware was new and high power It's understandable that it was expensive, but 25 years later a PS1's hardware isn't worth more than 10$.
Add to that that this is most likely just an emulator... and you bring the price even lower.

It`s not really expensive today, if you take in account peoples wages now compared to when the original playstation came out and was over £400 in the uk in about 1995..
5 years ago Sony put a Playstation Vita (and all that entailed in terms of functionality and available games) in a case that was smaller than a DS Lite (and included an AC adapter) and charged the same price for it as they are charging now for a Raspberry Pi in a novelty plastic case with a cut down version of a PC emulator running on it.

The $100 price point they've put it at implies that they spent some effort on it (as they did with the Playstation TV and as they did with the PSX), but this might as well be one of those AtGames Sega Genesis plug and play consoles.

So, apparently the system has some kind of menu that be accessed if you plug a certain USB keyboard into it and press "esc" and it has a variety of settings, one of which includes changing it from PAL to NTSC and even adding scanlines. However, I say certain USB keyboards because I have read only certain ones work with it. Not sure if I should link the video or not, but it's really not that hard to find on Youtube.

I had lost interest in the console previously, now I am curious to see what else happens from here.

Licensing issues gutted the lineup, but Sony still made a few odd choices and included crappy PAL versions of some games.

A bummer this turned out a turd. I'll just finally make a retropie since it's running the same emulator. We're never getting ps1 games on ps4 either.

yeah i'm not to bothered either since I have a jail broken PS vita than can run a PSP emulator that can run PS1 games better than the PS classic Sony made lol.

To be honest, one of the most shocking features is that the game cases and manuals aren't even included on the system... which btw are needed to progress in MGS1!

They did at least put the right image for MGS on the back of the box.

ah ok... something then!

To be honest, I've been looking at this for a while and I think I'm just going to buy another PSX and mod the living daylights out of it and play PSX games on that. That way I'll get a proper PSX and all of the games :D

Even with those 36 games the emulation would have still sucked mightily!

I was expecting the PGXP-PCSXR, which fixes the jumpy polygons not the plain on they used. Pathetic Sony!

Personally I prefer the version with jumpy polygons. It just gives me feelings of nostalgia.

Are you sure about purchasing it... You know it performs slower than a PS1?
From everything I’ve read it works perfectly fine apart from the odd minor issue and a few PAL games. There’s plenty of hyperbole when most people just want a cool, plug & play, box under their TV.

The PS Classic will now be cracked wide open. Soon we’ll have access to every game, different emulator settings, menus. Maybe even new emulators such as SNES & Megadrive.

With everything running off a USB drive/HDD, there isn’t really a limit to the amount of content you can add.

The next things i'm concerned about is:
1. Could it be possible to play games in full screen?
2. Could it be possible to use PS3 and/or PS4 controllers?

Correct me if i'm wrong, but I don't think either is possible right now, but could it be through hacking? I'm aware it's fairly new and we may not have answers to it yet, but those are the next two things i'd like to know and I hope soon we will have answers if their aren't any already.

It's been hacked already, add as many games as you want.

It's still pretty pointless as you could do the same thing on a real PS1 or PS2 with a much more satisfying outcome / experience and have the use of a DS controller. The classic makes no effort to do anything better which it really should have done (upscaling etc).

Poor Performance emulation too.

They could've put the PGXP-PCSXR plugin to fix the texture warping.

Turns out a lot more games were tested on the system but were not released, there was a lot of games listed in a firmware dump of the system. Gran Turismo is also on the list.

*snip*

I would take almost every game on this list over what ended up shipping on this thing.

Gran Turismo, Klonoa, Suikoden, Tomb Raider 1, Tomba and Tony Hawk were some of my fondest memories on this machine.

Jumping Flash can stay, that's a very good game.

This thing would have been killer is they made it right.

  • Full HD 720 / 1080 60fps
  • All NTSC games
  • More games (Including Tested List)
  • PGXP-PCSXR Plugin (Polygonal Grid / Texture warp fix)
  • Dualshock 3/4 Compatability
That would have been worth $100, not something which performs worse than a PS1!
