Playstation Classic

Revelations: Persona is the only game that would intrigue me to buy this. The original PS1 disks are fairly hard to come by in the US.

Fairly unsurprising that the line-up is relatively underwhelming... the fact that they didn’t announce the full roster when they initially revealed the PS Classic foreshadowed this.

When this was originally announced, I made a list of what 20 games I’d personally put on a PS Classic if I were in charge... the only ones that made it into the real deal were Persona, Ridge Racer Type 4, and Wild Arms which was confirmed in the initial reveal.

Now I don't feel this will sell as good as I thought I would.

I've found many cancelling there pre-orders and ranting.

$100??

Stingy Sony!

I really hope you can access it like the Nintendo Classic consoles and add/remove some games :dopey:

It really needed at least the original WipEout, but nevertheless Tekken 3, Ridge Racer 4, Destruction Derby, Battle Arena Toshinden (so awful it's brilliant) and the original Metal Gear Solid make it a buy for me.

I suspect, well I know, that GT 1&2, the WipEout series, and certain other popular choices aren't being included due to music licensing issues.

Sony is a multi billion dollar corporation, they should be able to get around licensing.

Remember that Sony has an immense music and film business, and if they were to "get around" licensing, where "get around" implies some less than wholesome activity in order to do so, then they'd be crapping on their own doorstep, so to say.

Disappointing it doesn't include Destruction Derby 2, first game is alright but 2 is probably the best in the series.

Saw the video on the UK PSN and the only thing I could think is how terrible the games look. Funny how I can look at sprite games and not get that feeling at all. No buy for me.

This was how we rolled in the mid 90‘s - 30 FPS if you were lucky (25 in Europe due to PAL), 640 x 480 max resolution, more often than not 320 x 240 and forget oversampling or supersampling. Looked great on CRT televisions.

Yep, it‘s a buy for me.

I assume you mean by "get around" you mean to use its vast wealth to procure licenses instead of just flat out ignoring them. Either way, it's not how it works. Look at GT and GT2, some of those cars in those games are from companies under different ownership now or simply no longer exist. Getting a license for them could be difficult and costly.

Other games probably have similar challenges too. The artist for the music could be on another label now, or just no longer licensing their content. Some game companies could also be owned by a different parent company now, who's not keen on letting Sony relicense its game.

I have no doubt Sony could eventually do it, but it's probably not worth it since it would cut into its profit margins and potentially delay the release date.

I was maybe hoping to see some of the classics return.
Like Crash CTR and maybe Smugglers Run.
If they had smugglers run it would be a good buy for me but with this lineup.
I would say no.

My excitement has died instantly over the list.

I'd only play a couple of those games included.

Now I'm thinking about a N64 classic, which I'd rather buy and could potentially overtake the PS1 due to it's controversy.

I just hope Sony are being arrogant and decide not to add any more games, or even analog compatability... It's a console I wished for but created in it's worst form.

Licencing issues seriously suck.

Never knew how licensing actually work, I thought once it's purchased that's it kept forever.

No wonder the GT games never made it to the PS Store, even the PS2 titles via PS4's emulation.

But you have those Sony executives like "why would anyone play these games anymore" which axes the chances... Play the latest installment.

Guess we'll never see those games.

I was already uninteresed by it but seeign the list... Sony just doesn't give a flying frick about what the people really like. They just used the cheapest licensed games they could put on there that have been remotely talked about is all. I'd rather play on emulators or on my actual PS1 please and thank you.
Caaaaash graaaaaaaaab~~

That's it Sony and others, milk us dry. Please your investors, and cry for forgiveness the day we the players don't have any money to put in your crap or finally stop being a bunch of brainless sheep.
I can't believe how every generation Sony and MS take turns being the most arrogant pieces of crap they can be.

I pretty much agree with the guy. could be said a little less... bluntly as he's wording it, but yeah. Wrong games in heir respective series if not completely wtf choices.

I don't know that it's so much that they don't care as much as it is the fact they were rather dumb (in the long run) when it came to their exclusives during the PS era. They didn't make many first party games and instead went the route of getting third party developers to release exclusively on the PS1, which meant they didn't actually own many of the IP's that made the console great (or they stupidly let Universal keep the rights). It was a smart move back then since they were the new kids on the block, but obviously a bad move in the long run since most of those titles have since gone on to be multi-platform games that Sony has to pay for if they want to use them in something like a nostalgia console and considering most are also still active, it's probably not cheap.

I thought that was a PS1 game.
Well I didn't play much of the PS1 games anyways besides the Crash, Spyro and GT games. (All of which are on the PS4)

I thought that was a PS1 game.

It came out very early on in the PS2's life cycle which is probably why it felt like it might have been also on PS1. Good game, Angel Studios did a lot of good work.

And with me being just so early into the PS life and being as young as I am, sometimes things get mushed together.

People have got there hands on the Rip off...

And it SUCKS EVEN MORE!!!!

Games render in 240p ?? :odd:

$100

320x240, that's the resolution PS1 games ran at, so it makes sense. Basically, just play a real PS1 for the actual experience lol. Even better if you have a chipped one. Just get the games and play them. Such a let down this is.

Whats the over/under on it getting hacked within 1 month?

What's worse is that the price is so awkward for something that came out 2 decades ago. Of course, it's fitted with some modern amenities like an HDMI and USB port to make it feel like it's still up to date but for $100, why didn't Sony even bother to include the AC adapter in the package? What's their logic behind this one? It's ridiculous. I'd rather buy a used, mint condition PS4 for more than the price of that one.

Not bothered at all anymore...not even if you can hack it.

Have to say, I now share this sentiment.

I was all aboard this hype train and pretty excited. But the weird choices they made with the games, controller and the way the games run (PAL50hz etc) just kinda make this an odd deal and a pricey one. I still have my original PSX and adaptors to make it connect to SCART on a modern TV.
For the money I can get new DS1's and a whole bunch of games and I think that'd do me far better than this cute little box...

Having had a PSX as a kid I was interested when I first heard about this, but honestly it's just too much money. It's clearly aimed at people around my age who have a huge amount of nostalgia for the original, can afford and sometimes do indulge in expensive gimmicks like this. I mean, I can't imagine anyone actually expects people to play any of these games to completion or beyond on this thing, if you actually want to play the games there are so many better options - this feels like something you'd buy to show your friends when they come over for their bi-yearly (if you're lucky) visit.

That said, reading the list of games did remind me how awesome it was loading up Tekken 3 for the first time after playing a ton of Tekken 2. I loved that game. Still, I've got all my favourite PSX games on my PS3, they're actually the only reason I still have it; MGS (with the VR Missions add-on too), Nuclear and Soviet Strike, Future Cop LAPD, G-Police, Syphon Filter 1-3 and a copy of Wipeout 2097 on disc somewhere. Oh and RRT4. And Front Mission 3.

It`s not really expensive today, if you take in account peoples wages now compared to when the original playstation came out and was over £400 in the uk in about 1995..
