Do you believe that the Marketplace for trading is now dead?

It's just like the real economy....supply and demand. Everyone's gonna have an FGT and an X2010 now, and then they're going to duplicate it. So when everyone has one and theres 2 floating around for every person that trades, there's a huge supply and no demand. FGTs and X2010s will be a dime a dozen now. The marketplace won't survive because of this. And with the massive increase in prize money (A-Spec Dream Car Championship yields over 1,000,000 in prize money in around 1 hour playing time), you could almost say that PD helped kill it if it indeed does collapse.

I don't think it's dead, there are still plenty of desirable cars that aren't (currently) available in the online dealership. And some people just enjoy trading too I guess.

If it wasn't dead before, I think it is officially dead now because people are just giving away cars that used to be hard to get such as the REDBULL CARBON PROTOTYPE which was awarded for getting gold in the S. Vettel Challenge.

Marketplace is still alive and kicking its just gone through some changes since duping.
You can still find some interesting trades if you're willing to wade through the X1s, FGTs and chrome paint chips.

There is no real marketplace.. It's only a swap shop. In a real marketplace I could win/buy a car.. tune it up, customise it's look perhaps and sell it for credits to do the same again.. or get more credits than I spent on the car.. The car would be unique and only available from me .. some other games have this and to me this is the marketplace gt should have had..

bought a car tuned it for an event and need cash for a new car/event...= grind!

You can't sell the old car for anything like it's worth!! but you might be able to swap it.

This is not in my view a marketplace..

In that way tuners could have a lot of fun etc..

This is just a swap shop.. sure everyone will have an X1 or FGT, not everyone will be able to set them up or drive them competitively.

SO what if they all have the same cars.. it's the driver and the way the cars get set up that makes the difference.. after all, when your racing with your mates in your lounge.. how many times do you end up with the phrase.. "right lets all pick the same car, all aids off!"... that's the real benchmark..

I see lot's of guys with tons of cars.. for me the quality of the driver is defined in the license tests, achievements and trophies they have won. Thats what I base my decision to race on.. not the cars they have!

Ohh and I have a long way to go before I get anywhere near all golds :)

It's not dead at all, it might be ''abused'' or ''expoilted'', but there's no way it's dead.

In the past two days I've done 2 deals that were very very good, the people I dealt with were professional, they were not ''trying it on'', they were not rude or obnoxious.

I'm not interested in FGT, Ferrari F1 or the Redbull, I like rare road and racing cars. I've reached level 35 A spec and level 30 B spec and have collected over 275 cars. Many of these are cars featured in the rare care threads that are on this forum. I've deleted, sold and given away a huge number of cars I didn't want.

There were however two cars I really wanted, one I already had but because of irreversable tuning I needed another (so one culd be driven stock, the other modified). The other I saw once, in the first few days of playing GT5 but have never seen again, despite the fact that I relentlessly checked the Used Car Dealership after every 3-5 races I did.

By looking through the Market Place I finally saw the two cars I wanted, I spoke with the traders, came to a mutual agreement and completed the trade, on time, with no problem.

Yes, I agree, the duplicating of certain cars has had an affect on the GT5 market place, however, it has not killed it. If you use the Market Place properly, be realistic, avoid the people who want to make ridiculous deals and biased trades, then the market place still works and in my experience it worked very well.

It might now be alot harder to find what you want and someone who completes the trade professionally from start to finish, but it is not impossible.

Yes, it is a shame that so many people will abuse the system, but what's new - how often does this happen in real life, all the time, is it any surprise that GT5 or this forum is ever going to be any different??

It could be useful for people to get cars they have a hard time getting. Also with all the money available it could lead to inflation.

But only cars who is there is racing cars f1 cars and super cars wich costs millions. the cars i would like to see is old cosworths old classic bemmers like e30 and so on. This game has way to little amount of those atleast i would like too see

I kind of agree with this last post.

I've only been playing for 5 days now, and I haven't got the money to afford the amazing cars that have been coming up in the UCD because I keep spending my money on other lesser but rare things that I think are interesting.

If they come up twice and I have the money I buy them again in the hope that somebody out there will want to swap for something else that's interesting.

So far I've done an M3 GTR for a RUF BTR, a Yellowbird for the Ford GT LM racecar and will be doing a 205 Turbo for a Delta Integrale.

Probably some of these aren't necessarily of equal monetary value, but if they are rare enough then a car for a car is a fair trade is it not?

Like people say, if everyone has an X1 then nobody will want them, the market will be saturated. But somebody might really really want something obscure like the Dodge Neon or something

I vote No
I think it still work fine as people can exchange for car they want (or difficult to find)

I totally understand what you are trying to say, but the thing is that . . . there is not a single car in the marketplace that is hard to find or rare.

Completely dead. Nothing has value anymore thanks to duplication. Although in my opinion it's been dead since birthday glitching.

I completely agree. I found the marketplace to be a super fun aspect of these forums and game up until mass-glitching started. I personally like to earn my cars the hard way, and it ruins it for me when people are willing to trade me triple the value of my car to me, because their cars aren't worth anything to them.

I understand why people glitch and dupe cars, and it doesnt bother me in the slightest if someone is driving a carbon x1 at a-spec level 1, I just wish there was a way there could be a seperate marketplace for people interested in getting their cars by shopping the used car dealership and earning credits, that magically differentiated people who glitched and who didnt.

I think the legit trading is dead everything is dupes now. I had around 12 successful trades before 1.05, now I'd just be trading with dupers so I quit trading lol.

The credit increase was needed, it's only for a limited time to begin with. You must like grinding for little crumbs of cash for these long races. With the omission of repeat prize cars PD neutered grinding like it was in the previous games, more money is the only way to rectify it now, with all the BS prize cars they give out now too.

Never really traded for anything, never saw the need for it really. PD should have had paint shop, that would drive unique possibilities aside from just owning a rare car. Let's hope they add more

We can gripe all we want, but perhaps the time is better spent working on a SOLUTION...

Personally, when I first found out that GT5 had a protected game save (when GT5p didn't) I was LIVID. I've had an awful experience trying to deal with EA/SMS, who made ONLY the PS3 version of Shift have a protected game save. I lost my maxxed out game save TWICE. ALL my progress up to the ultimate level, my entire garage, my online ranking, EVERYTHING...

TWICE!

After innumerable emails back and forth to EA Support, being fobbed off with one patently, absurdly incorrect 'excuse' after another, I was finally told to stop harassing them or my EA account would be voided!🤬:banghead:

So, after pre-ordering the game, rushing home on the day of release and glacially installing the game, imagine my HORROR to find out PD/Sony had done the exact same dumb thing! WHAT THE ****?!

I thought, OK, maybe this is not all bad. Maybe Backup HD and Restore might work... apparently not. So, back to playing the game, and not being able to shut the game down or restart a frozen PS3 (got a couple of freezes in the first pre-patch game, but nothing that axed my Game Save) without having my heart in my mouth. Anyway, you know the rest... promised fix inside a month (better than EA, that's for sure!) and delivery a week or so away.

BUT.... it strikes me that PD didn't think this through. Anyone over five could see what this was going to lead to. Apparently, that didn't include Kaz. Anyway, on to solutions.

About the only EASY way of slowing down this flood of exploits that I can think of (tying all purchases and trades to a cloud would only lead to service charges, I'm sure) would be to go back to having a protected game save....

BUT.....

Allow the PS3 Backup HD and Restore commands to restore your save game without having it individually copyable. What does this accomplish? Well, perhaps not the COMPLETE eradication of the exploit, but it would SURE slow it down enormously, as you would have to do an entire HD Backup every time you acquired a new car, and then and entire Restore just to get it back after you traded it. These, at least on my system (USB2 external HD for backup) takes quite a long time. And hour or so...

I am pretty sure 90% of the ADD weenies using this exploit don't have the patience or time to do this every day they want to dupe and trade (or gift). But it wouldn't remove the restorable nature of the game save for those with genuine needs for it.

C'Mon, PD... let's get this fixed!

Well I didn't "quit" I am just not too excited about trading anymore.

Value is decided in economics by

Supply ~ Demand

Their is unlimited supply and that means regardless of the demand the value is null (supply > demand = no value)
Take diamonds for an example there is a huge demand for diamonds but limited supply therefore the value is increased (supply < demand = high value)

The marketplace isn't "dead" it's just worthless. Some cars still have value as there is limited supply. A cheap car that gets little interest is worth more than an X2010 in relation to supply versus demand.

With the current level of activity in the marketplace, I'd have to submit that NO, it quite clearly IS NOT dead. Still.

It's not dead, its dying. The car duping is the worst thing (that I can think of) to happen to the Marketplace. It's sort of like counterfeit money.

It should be dead in the first place. A marketplace wasn't anything PD intended to implement at all. It was nothing but a "gifting" (read "sharing") feature to be used among friends.

From my personal point of view, Since the gifting options have been introduced to GT Franchise the market place is dead. It is the perfect opportunity to grab & dupe

if it gets me cars i want/miss, i dont care if they are duped or not

at least at duping u cant get scammed, u will allways get you cars back :P
