Do you believe that the Marketplace for trading is now dead?

Its not dead. Its not the same, but the fact remains that if I want to trade a car, or have a car that I would like to get, I can goto the marketplace, start a thread and get the results I wanted in minuets.

The game has become a lot more fun since I can choose from a garage full of interesting fun cars, thanks to the marketplace. So no. It's not dead.

The marketplace can self-regulate. It's in it's own best interest to police itself...

No, it's far from dead. Cars are worthless, yes, but I managed to get a 370Z GT Academy in exchange for a free tune up. :P

I'm not interested in FGT, Ferrari F1 or the Redbull, I like rare road and racing cars

I have to second this, the amount of X1s ive turned down that have been offered for my IS200 GT-1 Race Car is probably silly to all the people desperate to get an X1 BUT it just doesnt interest me...I spend my life reading about the rare cars and searching the UCD for gems...infact ive probably got 2x as many standard cars as I have premiums for those very reasons :)

Cmon Guys the third opition still has a chance to win :dopey:

The Market place was something invented by some players (probably the same that started the dupping) and isnt part of the game But if you ask me its more alive than never after the duping process and with much less chances of scams

When ingame items start to acquire a real world cash value you end up with gold farming and I don't expect many of us are in favour of that.

I pity the nameless developer who was working on the "You want X2010? We have X2010. Many colors available!" bot. Thank goodness we will never see one.

It wasn't. The Marketplace was opened in response to the cries of players who needed a particular car for certain challenges but couldn't find them in their current UCD. It was only afterwards that the birthday exploit and car duplicators (with the original duplication glitch) came on and started offering high level cars for cheap.

I love car duplication. It makes our job in the Marketplace so much easier. As long as people back-up their save games, they won't lose out on a bad trade. And with rampant duplication, there are so many fewer people begging for X2010s.

Dead in a sense that there's no fun in trading now because you can just dupe and trade.. but marketplace is not dead by any means.. it's just filled with dupers trading their cars away. Funny thing is people now seem to be obessed with this idea of having cars with 0 miles and 0 switches... that's just nonsense to me, that's like saying I'm collecting diecast model cars so I can put them on a shelf and just look at them.

The marketplace will only be dead when every GTP member has every car they want, which won't happen for awhile, even with duping. The trade limit is keeping it alive.

I find it good since it makes the marketplace like a dollar store, but I find it somewhat a cheaters way to trade.

"Hey guys! I'll give you 10 Ferrari F2007s for a Miura, a Matmut 908, and a Red Bull X2010!!!"

Seriously though. It seems as if people can take advantage of how the game saves are no longer copy protected, so you can just add 2 accounts and keep duping by backing up your game save and giving account #2 a car and copying the back-up to your main user and use account #2 to give the duped car back. Wow my tongue feels twisted now.

Dead? NO! Different? Yes.
You were lucky if you got what you wanted before update, now you can get almost everythink and even chose color of you favourite car.

the marketplace will slowly die out as everybody finally gets those last few rare cars

I agree that you can get cars faster and you keep more cars, through the glitches. So trading will die out faster.

After 3 months I'm at about 320 cars (many high level LM, etc).
From my experience in GT5p I'll need a long time before I have driven those to a level I get tired of them.

I started out looking for about 70 specific cars, I'm still missing some of those, so I'll still trade myself.

Apparently the new craze is collecting 0-mile standard cars, which seem to be easiest to get with the birthday exploit, or duping of level/1000 tickets. So there's your new marketplace driver.

It's like a mad version of pokemon. Or should I say even madder.

That actually makes *some* sense. I never know whether cars from the UCD need engine overhauls and chassis restorations. You have no reference because you don't know what performance they were supposed to have, and how the handling was supposed to feel.

With 0km standards at least you get to brake it in yourself and you know it's pristine.

Not that I car much, personally. 0km cars are extremely rare in my garage :sly:

You don't need "money" to sell and buy. Trading commodities directly also costitutes a market.

Yes you need money to sell and buy!! but to trade no, what is the case, and yes trading constitutes a market, you are right in that.

I don't think it's dead at all. A quick look at the polls shows a very healthy percentage of people still well up for trading. As for duping and people selling things on ebay - sure, out of 5.5+ million end users, there is bound to be a fairly large number who would do this. But lets not forget that (in our community) there are PLENTY of fair traders. The market place is still totally valid for those hunting hard to find cars - a personal example being my LONG search for the Mercedes CLK GTR - it's the car i've searched the longest and most desperately for - the thing just DID NOT want to appear in the UCD. From my research i can see i only appearing once in the whole UCD. I know you can win it by getting gold in an AMG challenge but not everyone can achieve this.
I did a quick marketplace add and within about half and hour i had done a fair trade.
I love the car but as a side note i was REALLY disappointed with the quality of the cars textures - after most of the other Mercs being of such a high standard - this one is BAD.

Anyway - long live the Marketplace.

I don't want to sound like an old guy but I think most people live the game as they live their lives.they want everything as fast as they can and they end up not enjoying the really flavors of life(or game in this case). A game is supposed to be enjoyed not to be beaten in 1 or 2 months and then put it in the box. That's what I think.

All I know is that I put up an advert for a Vauxhall VX220. I got three guys telling me I could have one for

  • An FGT or Mazda 787b.
  • A Peugeot Team FAP
  • Any Ferrari F1 car.
Does that constitute a marketplace? No,...not really.

I suppose the problem is that the true worth of cars ranges from 0 to 0.
