I'm a huge fan of both too, but the Impreza feels more unique with it's flat-4 engine layout, so that gets my vote.

This thread needs some pictures, in my opinion.

Time Attack/race prepped STi = win.

Nice Pics, this thread needed some. :)

Well, a few days ago I would have picked Impreza, but then I bought a Lancer. I really like the Subaru, but the Lancer is just on another level.

Well in the past Subaru's have always had the better build, the only Evo's ever have is a slightly bigger turbo out of the box. That is also why they cost more.

In the real world the mitsubishis are not nearly as reliable but they are harder and more aggressive resulting in faster lap times.
Anybody see that test where the new V6 mustang beat the EvoX and the 11 STi sedan at pretty much everything?

iv never been in either in real life but i prefer evos purely because you see subarus get the chavvy exhausts and they go from sounding beefy to mcdonnalds...

in game subaru sounds like skyline?

What and Evo's aren't given chavvy exhausts? They both have them depending on the spec. I find it odd that 2 cars originally made for rallying (STI and Evolution) can no longer participate in the WRC.

lancer-impreza / evo-sti rivalry has been on for more than a decade! i'm surprised the OP didn't know

p.s. impreza all the way! '04 WRX w/ VF39 owner here :D

I wouldn't kick either one out of bed, but the Evo handles and looks better imo. However, I do think the handling gap closed a bit in GT5, the Evo seems to have more understeer than in previous games and the Scoobies are a bit more neutral. I could be imagining this, but that's my perception.

Spare a thought for us Audi Quattro and RS200 fans from the old group B days...but yeah the never ending rally rules re-writes have changed rallying completely in my eyes, better or worse? hard to tell from my eyes I miss the loud noises and flames eveywhere in the welsh forrests :D

Personally I've followed the history of these cars for at least the past 15 years just because they're normally offered in the racing games I've played. I've always been somewhat partial to the Lancer in terms of visual design, but if I have to be honest with myself, the WRX is always more fun to drive, and that is true in GT5 as well. Since the poll is limited to GT5, I have to give my vote to the WRX.

Driving evo ix at the moment and it's just so raw and exciting, while my friend has a 2006 wrx and its alot more comfy for daily driving. If I was going to drive around town all day I would drive a sti but if I want to have some fun it would be the evo. Evo vote!!

Subaru for me. My first awareness of rallying came because of a two minute tv report on the controversy at the 1995 Catalunya Rally, with Colin McRae refusing to slow down and gift the win to team-mate Carlos Sainz, despite team officials standing in middle of the road to try to "persuade" him. (They managed to convince him to take a time penalty in the end, but the sense of injustice forced me to watch the RAC Rally coverage and that was enough to get me hooked.)

To this day, if you say "rally car" to me, the first image that appears in my mind is a mid-to-late-90s-liveried Subaru Impreza.
