Or a night table with the drawer cut out. I put the front braces at a height so it can wedge in and under the tv stand. Completely negates all vertical shaking. See second image. I started with smaller X braces on the sides but what's there now is way sturdier. A tad heavy with the wood but I put that furniture anti-scratch tape on the bottom and it slides on the hardwood floor very easily.

Tire update is okay from what I've played. But it still isn't very good. They also really hindered the performance of a lot of the MR racing cars, the R8 LMS, 458 as a few. There's a lot more indication as to where the grip will end but I still feel as if it's really canned.

Hindered?

I've been racking up wins with the MR cars since the update so I have to disagree that they have been hindered.

I put together a make-do offering out of an old wardrobe. It's not ideal, but wow does GTS feel good on a wheel. Obviously I can't compare it to anything else until I try that too, but once you're used to the wheel fighting you (it feels way too much friction for my liking if I'm honest) it's really good for flowing.

You can lower the resistance with the torque setting. 4 is ideal but you can go lower. Just don't go higher because you'll get clipping. Check out the G29 thread : https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/g29-settings-thread.379068/

Thank you. Just watching back my first lap on the Nord where I used the Peugeot 208. I didn't crash or spin and I feel a huge sense of satisfaction watching the car react to my actual inputs and not a controller. No wonder you guys have been wheel users so long. What an epiphany.

My friend and I got into a battle over the 'Ring circuit experience record. I came out on top but the cost of that was I absolutely hate this car.

I think they chose it because when driven moderately it handles very very well, but when you push the car hard it's absolutely awful. Lots of push up front and the rear end will step out inexplicably.

Opposed to cars like the 911 that have a very linear driving experience all the way up to the limit, the BMW goes easy-awful-**** this car.

I wonder if the car is like this in real life,Kaz used it on the Ring so he should be able to give major imput on the GT Sport version.

The NSX GT3 is even better now. It was a pretty impressive car before but it feels more lively now so its very driftable, you can hold the slide and you can provoke it with more power. Amazing for a mid engine car.

Its also very capable with modest power. I want to drive it more but have so many GT3 cars to plough through.

Other GT3 cars just do not put up well with sloppy driving.

From what I've experienced from the new update, it gives a massive advantage to handling-oriented cars when using a controller. For instance, when practicing for Saturday's Nations Cup at Yamagiwa Reverse, I was over a second quicker in the Cayman GT4 than I was in my usual car, the Corvette. Yamagiwa is/was normally (for me anyway) a pretty unbiased track, so I'm fast no matter the car, as long as it's not a pain to drive. Suddenly, I can't hang with anyone in my Corvette, even on circuits that used to be neutral when it came to handling vs. speed.

I just tried the new "daily" race at Dragon Trail Seaside, which, from my experience, favored fast cars over handling ones, but was a track that I liked very well, so I used to be able to start and finish near the front in my Group 4 Corvette, which wasn't the fastest car on the straights, but was decently quick. Now I can't break out of mid pack, and it's a struggle to even crack the Top 10. I'll have to try it again with the Cayman GT4, but I'm betting it'll be noticeably faster again. The Corvettes were never the best at anything really in either Gr. 3 or 4, but they were/are decent enough in all categories to be competitive at most tracks (for me anyway). That doesn't seem to be the case anymore (again, using a controller). I guess the "solution" is easy enough (just pick handling-oriented cars), but for now this is probably the worst part of the update for me (maybe I'll get used to it after a few hours and be back to my normal pace relative to everyone else, but who knows?). For the record, I have over 100 wins in Sport Mode, and Yamagiwa and Dragon Trail Seaside are 2 of my best tracks (along with ovals).

After a few more days and testing all sorts of cars, I've noticed something with the Racing tires in general when used on cars with sufficiently high downforce (Audi R8 4.2, Porsche 911 GT3 RS, and most if not all race cars). It seems that, when you mash the throttle at tight turns, the car sort of understeers. But not in the sense that the front tires lose traction, rather the drive wheels push the car forward. I dunno, it feels weird at first. I normally run with an LSD Accel setting of 30, and dialing it up a few notches remedies the understeer for the most part. That said, I do think that the new tire model is better than the old one.

I've been doing a bit of drifting since the tyre update , something I only bothered with in assetto corsa before and I do think it's a step in the right direction as I can actually hold good angles now balancing the throttle through the drift so hopefully they can keep improving it making the cars feel more realistic .

Is there any online resource that lists the default tyres for each car in the game? Useful if you tune cars and want to return a car to stock.

After doing some races and having the new tire model in mind, I personally think that it sucks.
I was doing the FIA race on the Viper Gr. 4, and this new tire model made its understeer much worse. I had to slow down a lot more to make a turn, and gets 9001% worse when nearing Pit Lap. With the previous model, the understeer in similar situations was not as bad as now.
I have to agree with you on this. My go-to car in Gr.3 and Gr. 4 is the Corvette, and it's always been rather understeer-y (epsecially the Gr. 4 one). It's always been middle-of-the-road in terms of performance (both handling and top speed), but I've driven it to dozens of wins in Gr. 3 and Gr. 4 guise, even at tracks where it's at a disadvantage vs. more specialized cars in those classes. After this update though, it's gone from having manageable understeer to being completely noncompetitive. I'm now relegated to mid pack even on tracks that I know very well and normally am very fast on.

The lack of grip with the new update wouldn't be a problem for me at all if it affected all cars equally, but it doesn't appear to, as I'm now much faster in the Cayman GT4, no matter what the track is. It seems the understeer fixed the flaws in some cars, while making others much worse.

I personally think DS4 players can be really good
Agreed.

Comparing to Top 10 people, I usually am 1-3 seconds behind 1st place on the list,
Same here.

but there have been times where I'd be on Top 10, or even Top 5 by the time the Daily Race is about to rotate.
*Spits out coffee* HOW?! I've never been on the top-10 leaderboards before, especially not at the end of a week. The closest I came to that was a few weeks ago with the Challengers at Blue Moon Bay, where I was maybe a few hundrerdths off of the top 10, but I feel like ovals are more controller-friendly anyway.

Low ABS seems better now but ABS off is still awful. Anybody else try?

Braking is the next thing PD needs to improve. The braking in F1 2017 is a very satisfying and enjoyable experience.

Agreed.

There are some tracks that I am really good at, such as Monza and Suzuka East (lol the easy ones). For Monza, it was with the one-make Vulcan; I practiced with it a lot and learned how to get the monster to go fast without losing control. For Suzuka East, it was with the Scirocco Gr. 4 and driving it felt so right. Don't know how else to word it. I also had a lot more time than now (work), so I'd invest much more time into trying to get onto the Top 10 times.

Tldr: practiced a ton when I had more time, now don't since I recently started a new job.

E- all of this was before the 1.23 update.

One car that is substantially worse is the McLaren VGT.

I used this one to campaign all the VGT series except for Le Mans due to its capped top speed.

The McLaren is all but a new car, you have to re-learn everything, it is substantially less OP.

But still, it feels much less like a Wipeout HD car and more like an actual 900kg 1,100hp rocket sled.

I had to use a TCS1 of all things!

I'm not quite sure why "Better" has all the votes. Unless you guys drive road cars a lot. Grip among race cars is comprehensively worse.

Can't believe they'd make this big of a change 1 year after release.

Oh well, soldiering on. I'm not happy though.

The grip is not better on the "race" cars since the update but in my opinion a lot more realistic as in regard to real world levels.

Also now there is a progression and warning as to losing grip and in many cases now a driver can drive through a loss of grip and save the car where as before the update it was just a snap spin which resulted in a crash with no warning and little if any chance of recovering.

It is not always about having maximum grip like a car is on rails as that is not realistic but rather having a level of grip that allows for fast driving and a grip level that is not just there one second but gone the next but instead is progressive letting the driver know before it is to late that they are getting ready to exceed the grip level and lose control.

Much better in my opinion since the update!

Agreed. Race Cars or Race Tires lost grip under the new tire model and Comfort/Sport tires gained grip. To me it's a very noticeable difference than before the update.
The Gr.4 class for me took the biggest hit under this tire model and it really changed the characteristics of some of those cars in a negative direction.
The Gr.3 class for some reason had the exact opposite effect. Some of those cars have become easier to drive. I always had to have TC set at 2 when racing the Gr.3 class but now I can control them with TC off and finding it to be much easier than before.

Don't really know why the Gr.4 class took a turn for the worst but the rest seemed to get better.

this is Gran Turismo, this never will be full sim
and changes like that almost a year after premiere are just ridiculous
I hate that new model, hate 3/4 cars feeling now (on gr3 especially) and I'm much slower overally on G29
that update (tires + weekly races) killed all my fun from this game

What the new tyre update does is basically adding more rear grip and feeling of tyre flex. That's pretty much it.

So in simple terms:

If a car is understeery before -> they will be even more understeery after the update

If a car is neutral before -> they will understeer after the update

If a car is oversteery before -> they will be neutral after the update

That is if you keep all other settings (suspension, downforce, LSD) the same.

So that's 2/3 scenario that a car will handle "worse" after the update and gives the feeling of "less grip".

If you tune out the understeer to match the new increased grip levels, most cars will actually be faster with the new update because you can put power down much better on corner exits.

PD's fault is not adjusting the BOP settings to match the altered front-rear grip balance. As a result most Gr3/4 cars will be out of whack in terms of handling. This is why handling oriented and MR cars are so good now, because they are now neutral instead of oversteery.

How do I know all this? I've been grinding KTM at Blue Moon ever since the update. I've driven 9000 km before the update with this combo and another 1000 km so far after the update. With the specialised settings this car is planted perfectly neutral through the last corner before the update. After the update it's a mess. But over the past week or two I've been tweaking the settings and now it's more planted than ever, and I'm doing laptimes 0.2-0.3 secs faster than before.

Obviously! Of course!

My driver rating goes down from day to day since the new tyre model is there. The only vehicle that I can drive very fast is the shifter kart without ABS. I have huge issues with the understeering in corner entry with the other cars.
