I he seemed to say the exact opposite. The controls are too sensitive.
I'm really hoping it's just a case of "git gud" and that it's actually playable with a pad with NO ASSISTS as I play even Assetto Corsa with just factory assists and no stability control. I know I have complained about Assetto Understeer before but at least the inputs are direct and I feel like the car is connected to what I'm doing with the pad to the point that oversteer recovery is fairly easy on most cars.

This is worrisome. The gameplay with a pad looks numb and indirect. I don't know if it's due to his input speed, the assists, or the new gamepad handling model but it just looks sluggish. Reminds me of Forza Motorsport and its obnoxious gamepad handling. The steering just looks slooowwww and it doesn't seem like the game actually ever gives him full control of the car.

Could be a whole host of things including them not being used to a pad.

Seriously? You can't even see the gamepad inputs but you're commenting on the results.
A number of times he says it is challenging or tricky, and it should be, trying to drive a car at high speeds with a gamepad.
He also says that he needs to 'get used to it' and learn how to drive.

Everything seems quite right to me.

Perhaps I am overreacting just a tad. I just really hope it plays well as it's very difficult for me to use a wheel.

Why is it difficult for you to use a wheel?

It could be that it is a tad more tricky with a gamepad but i imagine driving a real car would be, they are always going to have to synthesize when using a pad you really can't have it realistic & easy imo.

I don't think anyone wants it unrealistically easy, but I don't think it's too much to ask for it to be playable without spending hours just trying to get it to a tolerable point. For instance the Clio in PC1 somehow has uncontrollable oversteer even at low speeds when using a controller (I somehow spun at a blistering 40mph).

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I've spent a good solid three nights playing the game on PC with an Xbone pad to check this out and the game is very easy to play with a pad. I play my games exclusively with a wheel, apart from FH3, and have done for over 10 years so my controller skills are not the best. However, I found it great straight out of the box and could tune it to my liking by changing only two settings. Jordan and Slip had issues with the game using a controller at e3 as well so possibly something was up. Ian bell has offered Jordan and Slip and no holds barred access to the game with a controller pre release which I hope they can take up.

My disability makes it difficult with a wheel.

The clio is a good example.

Lift off oversteer is a characteristic of the car. It's hard to handle by default in a wheel as well. I can only imagine how hard it can be for a pad user... setups help but that's not the point.

The point is some cars are more difficult to drive than others by nature, because a game pad can't be 1:1 in steering or anything else, there' must be filters, much like there was in racing games of the past where we used a keyboard...

Even GT3 cars seem (always read it like this) to be sold to customers with safe default setups and assists ON. Anyone recalled the Mp4/12C GT3 at launch? For two years it seemed that only Alvaro Parente could drive that thing fast. In comparison the 458 was the default go to car for those AM.

My only wish is that the cars don't suffer because of this. The work must be done for the controller, not the car's physics. Other than that, drive away.

Ok so I've just run 10 laps (ran out of fuel!) at the same track, with the same car, same transition from evening to night (Jeez this game is pretty!) using an Xbone controller and I made sure I set the controls back to default, vanilla, out of the box. I had no such problems. Felt intuitive, could be as precise as I wanted but no twitchiness or slow steering. I did spin a couple of times but this was because I braked too late for corners and asked too much of the tyres. And I know if I go into the settings and make a little tweak to only two slider, speed sensitivity & steering sensitivity I could get it feeling bang on and probably get pretty close to my wheel times.

This is very reassuring, thank you.

While we're on the subject, out of curiosity, did anyone try pCARS 2 with a gamepad's gyro used for steering (should be doable with the Steam Controller for sure, but on the PC likely with any gamepads having a gyro)? If so, how is it?

When I tried this in pCARS 1, I've found that after very little practice (about 30-60 mins) and setting up the sensitivity (normal and speed sensitivity as well), my lap times came much closer to the ones I did with my wheel than I could manage with stick steering on the controller. The main issue was actually maintaining a straight line at first, but speed sensitivity does wonders in that regard and otherwise the gyro seems strictly superior, since you have much finer control over steering, quite close to a wheel actually.

You mean like driving Mario Kart with a Nintendo controller on the plastic wheel type instead of using the thumbstick?

I'm curious too if that's the case :)

I think we are thinking of the same thing, yeah. Here's a video demonstration with a Steam Controller:

Trust me, in the case of pCARS 1, with a good setup, you wouldn't be able to tell experienced drivers using a gyro for steering apart from wheel users during a race based on their steering inputs, only from their best lap times when switching between the two control options. The gyro is extremely precise in the Steam Controller, so except for the force feedback, I really think it is the closest anyone can get to a wheel, without actually using one, especially when considering input precision. In the case of the Steam Controller I can speak from experience, you can set it up just about any way you want to suit you, it has more settings than you will know what to do with at first.

@HardRock
That's it.

That controller seems to be the one to get. It is not the first time I hear good things about it and TBH video looks perfect for times like this where my house is a mess and I can't use my rig. If I knew that beforehand I'd probably would've got one sooner as I can power on my PC and use 1 monitor even if i'd sit a bit sideways and far away.

@warp9engage

You'll have to wait. There's more to be revealed :)

thats alot of content and the game isnt finished with its reveals yet wow. Was there any word for the Lykan Hypersport coming back or the formula b and are we getting any new kart tracks.

Keep updated here.

So that's 191 cars total. If we assume the 8 from the DLC are not counting for the base list, then we have 183. This leaves just 6 to get to 189. Not a very optimistic number, in my personal opinion. Kinda disappointed we don't get a 488 road car and no non-hybrid LMP1s.
