I can't wait to try pCARS 2's physics and FFB. I played the first game solidly for two years on the PS4 and PS Pro and liked it a lot, but then switched to Assetto Corsa on PC for the last couple of months. pCARS feels a little... odd after playing AC, especially with pCARS' strong 'return-to-centre' spring effect on the wheel. I can't seem to adapt back to it. I'm looking forward to seeing how different pCARS 2 feels, as reports have all been very positive.

I was thinking similiar last night while playing Project Cars, you've described it well.
If they got close to the Assetto Corsa feel, my opinion would be Project Cars 2 to be the best sim to date.
I know many are tired of hearing about AC physics and this is not a debate thread.
It's just that good, imagine those physics tied in with Project Cars content.

No comment :embarrassed:

(no, that was the guy I hit, for which I am extremely embarrassed about)
Maybe you can answer my question I had in the Videos thread. Did you hit him near the rear wheel or near the front? The video made it look like you guys were stuck together a la pCars 1. Ian discussed it, but since you were there maybe you can add to it.

First off, I had no idea that was even public (and I'm slightly surprised it is, the MP test sessions are not supposed to be public, for fairly obvious reasons - they are tests after all).

I was indeed in the white Ferrari (I accidentally picked the 'custom livery' when I joined the lobby for qualifying and couldn't be bothered to JIP* out and in again, just to change it) and was caught out by the lead car having to slow to avoid the red car ahead. I had checked behind me, a few moments beforehand, and saw a decent enough gap to P3 and so, when I got to the straight I moved back over to the racing line, not expecting a car to be there. The rest is ugly history.

In terms of sticky or anything, I can tell you with a straight face that there was no unusual feel in the incident and certainly nothing unusual about the accident (other than my stupidity. Well, like I said, nothing unusual :D) when it comes to car-to-car contact. The other Ferrari was slightly ahead of me, so I would have made contact with the rear portion of his car, not the front.

I do have the incident recorded from my viewpoint but you will forgive me if I don't wish to share it. I very rarely have proper crashes with other drivers in league racing (my DNF record is legendary for my own ineptitude ;)) and this crash is not something I wish to be dissected by all and sundry, let alone seen in public :).

EDIT : As a sidenote, I had qualified 2nd, using the default setup for the Ferrari, having driven no more than half a dozen laps with it in time-trial (which, it is worth noting, feels VERY different to driving the car out of the pits in quali). It was my first time driving it, starting it from cold tyres. Puffy, who was in the Accura ahead of me, is an exceptionally good driver - not just fast but a great racer and a true gent. He is also somebody who understands car setups. I don't. At all.

After watching the career mode developer diary I watched the second one where they go through some of the cars. I'm going to predict now that the first hour or two of my time with the game will be nothing more than looking at all the liveries for cars.

Wow so much explanationing thanks! I haven't seen any sticking in the other videos which is why I asked about this one, combined with the odd angle from the car behind in the original video. I trust your statement since chickens can't lie and statements about it from Ian are reassuring as well. The flipping was spectacular though compared to how cars just slam back into the ground in pCars 1.

Question?

In a multi-class race you only need to win your class right? :)

For it to be considered a win for you in that event? Yes, definitely. For winning bragging rights? Well... :)

After watching the career mode developer diary I watched the second one where they go through some of the cars. I'm going to predict now that the first hour or two of my time with the game will be nothing more than looking at all the liveries for cars.

I wish we could pick apart the bodywork in the car selection menu and view the car models that way. Judging by how detailed the models were in PC1, how many extremely small details were modeled under the hood, I'm fairly sure people's jaws would create craters, especially with the photos we can create in the improved photo mode.

Indeed. The way cars do crash, when they crash, is far more organic than before. Of course, they won't deform in the way some 'crash simulators' do but they are still far more lifelike and believable. Somebody else I was chatting to tonight said much the same thing, as he followed me into that maelstrom last night :D.

As for taking me at my word, I have somewhat made a rod for my own back in the past, by being deliberately obtuse and I fully accept that some folk will be wary of my words. That, combined with my love of pCARS1 and 2, well, it's hard for somebody that doesn't know my sincerity to take my words as my genuine feelings rather than "sales pitch" (though, given that I do not, have not and doubtless won't, work for SMS and stand to gain nothing financially from my comments, does make me wonder if anybody would actually think this). Come release, I will return to being my usual self but, in the meantime, I can only post based on my feelings of the game and they are the same emotions as I've posted internally at WMD2 (WMD2 members will attest to this fact). To that end, the accident felt natural as it occurred. The video viewpoint from another car, which will only be getting partial data from other cars sent to it, remember, might 'tell' another story from its angle but, from the hot seat, it was not unusual at all.

So, for the record, I stand by everything I have posted with regards car behaviour. I rarely stick my head about the parapet, to discuss car behaviour (let alone physics or FFB) because I cannot express it in language that the sim-experts want to read. Even less so can I express my feelings based on first-hand experience of the cars in the game (for which I have none). I can only tell you how it feels to me, as a driver. A driver that regularly tracked a 300 - 350 hp, RWD, car around most of the well known circuits in the UK. A driver that exceeded the UK speed limits by far more than the UK speed limit in the first place on an almost daily basis (not that I am proud of it, I simply had the car and the roads around me to make that possible). In short, I know what it feels like to drive fast (very fast) both on the road and on the track. Therefore, I can 'only' express my feelings of a sim from that experience, not from the experience of A N Other sim. To me, right now, I get a massive kick out of driving in pCARS2. Well, I did. Like the rest of us at WMD2, I've got to wait until release day now before I can play it again.

Of course, you might not like it. You might find the handling is not to your taste. You might not like the graphics, the audio, the AI, the cars, the setups, any of it. I won't tell you you're wrong if you don't. I'll only ask that you don't say you don't like it because it doesn't feel like A N Other Sim because, as I mentioned earlier, it won't. It will feel like Project CARS 2. And that is a very good thing indeed, IMHO.

I'm fairly sure I'm not allowed to post it but, I have a single image that encompasses 40% of all the paints and liveries in the game. Suffice to say, it's quite a large file ;).

Please don't ask me why I created that image, I don't entirely know the answer myself ;)

Hey Cluck! I've heard form some members that playtime on Pcars now ended for the SMS beta test members..

Seems that even with the last build the AI in some circumstances is too agresive and hit you a bit to much.

Also read about some problems with tyre selection and tyres fitted on start of session..

You know that it will be fixed for day 1 patch or it's to late to expand the update and we will have to wait other update more after day 1 patch?

14 days to go... No nails will be over by that time XD

And thanks in advance if you can reply and answer :)

re. AI, I drove against them properly for just one evening, a couple of weeks ago. For the most part, they were very well behaved. Perfect? No, no AI will ever be perfect (make them too perfect and people will complain that they are too robotic and lack 'life'. Make them 'too' human and people will complain that they make mistakes!). They have been worked on since, though to what extent (and result) I honestly cannot answer, I haven't properly raced with them.

The tyre selection problem has already had a fix created for it (or so we were informed in the multiplayer test session last night). Will it be in the day 1 patch? I don't know, as an ordinary WMD2-er, I won't see a new build now until release (as far as I'm aware) so none of us will know until release day.

I can only apologise if these aren't satisfactory answers for you but they are all I know, in both respects.

Thanks for your reply Cluck!

Yes...AI is quite complex and complicated... They have to program it for every car/category and track... So perfection with so many variations is quite difficult...
But your reply is good enough, thanks.

Good to know that they came aware of the tyre selection problem and that they got a fix for it, i hope they can implement it in the day 1 patch.

Will be a looong wait until 22th September to start enjoying this sim.

hello guys, how are you today? so glad that we were getting closer to the release date, can anybody tell me how good or bad if I play PCars 2 on PS4 Slim? Or should I get the Pro version? I'm so excited to have this game (and also GTS, ofc) on hand. thankyou

From what I've seen, on standard PS4 and PS4 slim, you can get 1080p 60fps (maybe not with full AI and raining, still waiting about that) and on PS4 Pro it's 4K 40-50fps depending on no. of AI and weather. So, if you don't really care about resolution, or you don't have a 4K TV then you'll be perfectly fine on the PS4 slim.

Sooo I did something I actually oppose, I pre-ordered it on Steam. I seriously dislike their pre-order strategy and still worry about the gamepad controls, but I remembered Steam's refund option. So if it drives as bad as pCARS 1 wlth a pad, I'll simply refund it.

No need to worry about the pad controls, it's in a different league to the first one. For me at least, it's not just OK - it's at least as good as any other driving sim/game I've used if not better.

To put it another way - in the gamepad handling discussion thread at WMD there have been hardly any posts for months now (and there are enough of us pad users there to make a noise if it was needed).

Don't take this personal, but as someone who was deeply involved in the gamepad development of the first game, I'll be sceptical until I play it and it works for me. I especially don't care about opinions from WMD members anymore. If SMS had listened to me back then, pCARS would've handled like a dream with a controller, but I always got shut down because I was only a Junior member.

I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with you being a junior member as others with higher levels have complained about the pad handling. For whatever reason SMS couldn't do it for the first game. Hopefully it really is as good as people say as I'm looking to split my time between couch and VR with more time spent racing on the couch with the pad.

There were two, or three higher tier guys, who were always saying how good it was and the only dev that worked with us was a car modeller or something like that. Those people were the ones who decided how it turned out.

They could, they did, then they changed the input method because... well, of reasons. It was almost there, just needed some tweaking.

I honestly don't really care about the resolution. It's good to me as long as it runs well on 60fps, I'd prefer smooth graphic than the high resolution. Thanks mate.

I don't remember it being ever good during the development but I didn't use the pad much at that time, mostly the wheel.

Forgive me if this has been asked and answered before. I pre-ordered a digital download code from Amazon. Will I get the preorder bonuses having pre-ordered from there and in that format?

When I preordered Assetto Corsa from Amazon, I received an email with the DLC code that allowed me access to the bonus content. Worked on PS4 without a hitch. I'm anticipating a similar experience.

On another note, I just finished watching the Developer Steam #4: Career Mode. Now I'm extremely excited for September 22nd. I'm pretty much an exclusive online racer, and haven't done anything in career mode on PCars 1 in over eight months. That's all going to change two weeks from now.

I didn't realise Amazon sold digital download versions of the game as I've only seen or noticed disc versions.
Pretty excited for 22nd September myself. Just waiting till a little closer to pre-order the digital download version from the PS store.
As for Career mode, I actually much preferred PCars 1 Career mode than GT6.

EDIT: Ok just now double-checked and saw there's a Digital option on Amazon.

Thanks for the reply. Hopefully that's how it works in this instance as well. Hope I don't have to jump through any hoops to get the content.

I'm pleasantly surprised by the changes made from Project 1. The fact you can cut sessions without having to skip through them, the pre-race menu screen is great, the layout is far less clunky and the options you have are ridiculous.

Yeah, like most testers. There was actually a time where it was perfectly playable, with the "old dampening" and some tweaking. It was also possible to entirely remove the deadzone, while later on there was always one, never mind your settings.

So much wasted potential this game...

Never mind, we'll see if SMS could finally get it right.
