So guess what: Today is pCARS' second anniversary! Happy birthday and as a little treat we got a first preview of a very cool real world Kart track that they acquired and that will soon be unveiled.

Also work on the LMP contest winner cars has started this week, cant wait to give those babies a spin! 👍

Love the sound in PCars:tup:👍 Funny, at the start I said to myself, "they must have stolen the AI designer from GT for this"...then I watched the rest and the AI was intensely competitive. GT could sure learn a lesson from this!! Can't wait till this makes the PS platform:tup:
Yes but I think the AI is running off track a little too often, they should be agressive while staying on track most of times. Anyway they looks competitive. That said, what happen'd on the start can be improved. :)

I didn't follow pCars development the last couple of months, is PS3 version cancelled?

Game is pretty taxing on my 780. I normally just drive from cockpit view but here is a replay from helmetcam.

For me, I'm nearing my first anniversary of expectantly refreshing this thread. It's been a long year with my nose pressed up the glass waiting for new registrations to open up. I learned about pCARS too late and missed the deadline last year by only a few weeks. I joined here to follow the progress and keep an eye out for my chance to sign up. I hope they will be opening up for new members to support next-gen console development soon.

I´ve read a few pages but cant find an answer. Last time I heared about the Project Cars physics was that they feel like Shift physics (wich were horrible for me). Will it get any better? For me, GT5 has great physics, are the PC physics similair? Or completely off?

And wow, those pics look georgeous! But somehow when I watch videos on YT it looks like a different game. The graphics look worse even on 1080p and the latest builds of the game. Is this some kind of photo mode like in GT5 where the pics look better than ingame?

EDIT: The AI is great! GT should learn from this. I hope it will come for PS4, I cant afford to buy a new PC just for PCars :/ If the physics will be good, this game could blow away GT! And Forza with eaze with its inaccurate track models.

You heard wrong, the physics are nothing like Shift.

There is no special photo mode in the game but people do use special filters that improve the image.

Physics are way better than NFS Shift, although still not perfect but it's a W.I.P. and it's gonna get much better by the time game releases next year!

Thanks for the compliment about the pic's 👍 but you can't judge a game based on "Youtube" videos! They are heavily compressed, and lose a lot of the IQ.

But pCARS has no photomode, what you see is what you get, (all in-game) although all of my pic's are heavily downsampled from 9K resolution!

Cheers, Mario

If I can just make a point on this; yes, YT does reduce the image quality (and that's why it's better to watch the Vimeo version if available), but the majority of the shots take time to set up to look stunning. I speak from personal experience that when I have taken screenshots from pCARS, it often takes me around 2-3 minutes a picture, to get the composition and 'the right shot', something you just can't do with a video.

Yeah that might be right. After watching some of the good videos, I see the game looks great 👍

Maybe I´ve seen videos running on slow machines.

Has anyone else seen a massive performance dip since switching to the steam version? I moved to the steam version today to play the latest build, noticed my once silky smooth gameplay become really jerky and it looked like 25-30fps going on, sometimes worse.

But the confusing thing is that FRAPS is telling me I'm getting 70-100 fps, which would fall in line with where I was before. So why is what I'm seeing on screen not matching up with the FPS I'm apparently getting?

Hmm.

Were there any settings changes done when you switched?

Well aside from AA I had everything set to maximum with 1920x1080 resolution prior to this, I've tried reducing the settings and a bunch of different things but the result is pretty much consistant with whatever I do. Fraps is showing that I'm averaging over 80fps but the reality looks very different. Spec is. I7 2600K @ 4.4Ghz, 16GB Corsair Vengeance, GTX670 2GB running on Win 7 Ultimate (64Bit).

It was running beautifully in the non steam version, so I don't understand why it is like this now.

I don't know if there is or isn't a difference, but what you are experiencing are most likely frame drops. Or better said the frame time increases for a single frame that is being calculated.

It might be a new insight to some, but next to the amount of Frames-Per-Second these days we also have another calculation method called Frame-Times. With this you look at the time each frame took to be calculated inside one second.

What this means is that if a single frame takes too long to calculate it will disrupt the flow of frames and you will see a tiny stutter in the image produced.
This does not mean that you will see a massive drop in the amount of FPS by definition, because in that second the other frames might not take long too load at all.

What could be happening in this case is a couple of things.
One thing what I noticed in the past when I ran a GTX480 on a Core2Duo E6600 was that with the Mafia 2 benchmark, which shows average and minimum FPS, I noticed that if I ran without my X-Fi soundcard (so onboard sound) or X-Fi card in anything other than "Game-Mode" I had a considerably lower minimum FPS than when I used the X-Fi card in Game-Mode.

With this I at the time (not knowing about frame-times) concluded that my CPU was still working on calculating audio and/or waiting for the audio chip(s) to say it is ready and has received all data. After that was done the CPU had time for sending data again to the graphics card.
So as the graphics card had to wait for the cpu to send data due to a delay in the cpu order chain, the frame time of the frame it is working on obviously goes up and eventually the minimum FPS achieved goes down. All resulting in a stutter or a sequence in stutters in the image produced.

Conclusion/in short:
The advancements in the audio department could have put an extra strain on the CPU, resulting in that the graphics card has to wait for the audio and thus has an increase in its frame-times.
There isn't really a way to get rid of this other than buy a soundcard that can offload your cpu. The X-Fi game mode activates the X-RAM and thus buffers a lot of commands and data needed, removing strain on the cpu.
Another way is to ask Stephen, Greg or Martin what is going on instead of coming to GTP to complain, which maybe will result in improved audio performance or that maybe Martin notices a reason for the increased frame-times with that high FPS.

In any case, good luck and I hope this kinda answers your question. :)

Sure about that, DG? I thought it was completely open what will happen at this point and will be a community decision.

By the way, they started work on the Ginetta G55 GT3 today. Awesome CAD reference data they received from Ginetta, you just gotta love getting behind closed doors insight like that! :)

I was amazed by that CAD data, must make modelling the car so much quicker. Well, unless you're PD, in which case you still take just as long.

I'm not suggesting that the PS3/X360 versions will be out before the PS4/XBone versions, but I, along with the majority of the members I should imagine, see no reason why the game won't be released on all four consoles (Wii U excepted, we know that will be released in the first wave).

Thanks for the pic WMDportal user Diehard

and on other news, there's an ongoing vote for the transition to next gen.. stay tuned (poll open for 2 weeks).
