When this was first brought up I was against it. When the game was to release this year. Now that the game isn't coming out until the end of 2014 or possibly later, still way to early to tell, I believed its the right choice. It will be to far past next gen releases.

This is great new!!!

At the moment I love the Lotus 49 - if you haven't tested the new vintage tires I recommend :)
Will give it a go when I go on next. First time tried Azure Circuit with Ford GT40 MkIV, so hard to do a fast lap around there with the default setup. I'm about 1.3 seconds off my potential going by the game and also keeping in mind sectors I have done. Always struggled to do a lap around on that circuit in other games, so punishing.

Yeah fatkrakr, same here. But even if some PS3 owners will be disappointed of course, its the right choice. That move gives them more possibilities and less need for compromise not only regarding graphics, but also physics and sound. I like their attitude to always push boundaries and their flexibility - remember, back when the project was introduced, there was no next gen consoles nowhere in sight. So I think its great that they reacted and adapted in time to the changed market parameters. Gives me a better feeling for my investment... And thanks to Driveclub, Watch_Dogs and The Crew, I will have a PS4 until then anyway. ^^

Do not forget to add that the fear also existed with us all that either or both Microsoft and/or Sony could have actually demanded SMS to release the game on their new consoles by not giving the permission to release the next-gen looking game on their old consoles.

So the question to the community also was... do we play it safe and go next gen or stick with trying to somehow fork the game into the old stuff on which we might mot even be allowed to release, effectively loosing time and money big time if this were to happen.

A lap of the Nurburgring Nordschleife in the new Mclaren F1. It isn't a fast lap of any sort, I didn't have the time/patience to make a video with me pushing hard as I would almost certaintly put it in the wall 9x out of 10 learning to tame the thing, so just recorded my first lap and drove cautiously.

The car is pretty nervious, has massive torque steer and is pretty unstable at high speeds, brakes aren't the best either and it tends to understeer a bit on corner entry.

This game is basically Shift 3 and it's coming to next generation. This is awesome news.

Have you not bothered reading any of the last 160-odd pages? It is not, nor ever will be, anything like Shift 2. The handling and physics are much more realistic and life-like, there is no focus on modification at all (it will include a Forza-style livery editor), it is purely about racing and a racing career. If it was going to be Shift 3, EA would be on board, but they're not. That's why Ben Collins and Nic Hamilton are involved in making sure the handling is spot on, that's why SMS had to go the public for funding.

I'll repeat it for the TL;DR brigade. It is not, nor ever will be comparable to NFS:Shift 2.

Great! Finally a reason to own a next-gen console. Also lovely to hear that Ian is insisting on 60FPS.
I was dissapointed when I traded in my current gen hardware a few months ago I thought that pc was going to be my only option for project CARS. So I am really happy to hear this news...Been playing the builds but my current rig can only handle 720p with all graphic options.. So look forward to a XBone version

Oh, he has. Other members had a similiar discussion with him, if I recall correctly.

720p. 1080p. Don't care as long as it's a silky smooth 60 frames per second experience. The game will look fantastic nevertheless.

Video giving a lap at California Highway that has been updated entirely and commenting (in spanish) that the game has been confirmed for next-gen and will be released in fall 2014.

OK so had a go with the Vintage tyres and also the default ones around Azure Circuit, one complete lap on each one. Quite fun but I prefer the default tyres. For people who like ice skating handling though as realism, if they enable them tyres on all cars then the sim will cater for them . Amazing how much faster the default tyres were, I improved like by 16 seconds.

I hated Shift 2 with a passion, Project Cars is nothing like Shift 2. I drove the lap and can tell you the car feels completely connected to the wheel, the reason it is moving as it does is because

1. Vintage tyre carcass (placeholder)
2. Soft suspension (just like the real car)
3. No rear anti-roll bar
4. Engine torque on heavy throttle causes the car to move around, similar to an old muscle car (related to the tyres).

Increasing the tyre pressures and stiffening the suspension removed most of the wobblyness, this car will be fantastic when it is finished. But it still will be similar to the above, the real car was.

Just one lap? :dopey: Yeah they are surely a bit handful especially when totally cold (blue cold, black warm), but I wouldn't count that out of realism with vintage tire and this car :)

Anyway, here's more lapping the green hell :P

I'm really disappointed they decided to go to next gen. I definitely will not be buying a gaming computer or PS4 (maybe computer) any time soon. I was very excited for it coming to current gen when it was said a couple months ago if i remember correctly.

The 1960's grand prix racing, looks a far cry from the Grand Prix Legends game of old.Still got that game, it came in a big cardboard box with an opening front cover.

New build today includes 2 new cars: The 12C road car and the first of the 2 community prototype design contest winners: The RWD Motorsports P30

Did only try time trial mode so I think tyres are already at optimum temperature? Yep but one complete valid lap though, hard to do a complete lap at good pace with vintage tyres . If you look at onboards of cars, you will see they have good balance and traction. Tyres for me even with the vintage cars resembled more how it would be like driving such cars in the wet.

Don't know what the vintage tyres are trying to simulate though might be realistic for what they are aiming for.

Here are some onboards of cars that might be classed as on "vintage" tyres.

One thing, you should only do physics testing in free practise and with visual damage only. There's some bugs crawling otherwise.. (dont remember the nature of those)
