I tested alot of Beta from different games. We just have a different opinon what Beta means to us. I would call it MP Demo. But companies say Beta. It is the wrong word in my opinion.

It is a fact that you can't test weekly builds on console. Ask developer.

Not weekly but monthly. In SuperCar Challenge we tested physics, bugs, controls and other stuff. The BF:BC2 Beta (the first, closed one) would've also been better if the Battlefield community wouldn't be so dumb. Of course that's rare and first party Betas (like from Warhawk, or Killzone 2) are even more complex, but it's not impossible.

pCARS isn't in a Beta stage so far, so yes, it wouldn't make sense right now.

Sweet. About time someone puts some effort into things like that. Pit crews are nice to have, but not worth having if they are loosening/installing invisible lug nuts. *cough*GT*cough* :P

Ferrari Challenge had a beta. We signed an NDA, they put new builds through Sony for verification regularly, was a lot of hassle for them. It has and can be done though. Many months later they released your typical MP demo.

I would guess MS wouldn't allow it but Sony is or was different, just like mods for the PS3 version of UT3. Shame this feature doesn't get used on PS3. Seems the devs who like mods don't want to do it for the PS3 alone and leave the 360 version without so consoles get none.

That is betas. PCARS isn't in beta yet.

It rocks so hard... I cant stop! Had some ultraepic races (and wins :P) tonight!

PS: Well bermuda, after our nice sessions tonight I assume you tend to agree... And stop stalking me! :D

Regarding the night light as has been mentioned a few times I've realised the HDR lighting setting has a major effect. Testing 2am at Spa I found, in order of darkest to lightest:

Hable Filmic > Simple > Photographic > off

Hable Filmic is certainly the darkest by far. With the other three driving a Formula car with no lights was pretty easy.

That is one sweet looking Lotus! I really hope they pull this game off for the PS3, then i will not need to buy a gaming PC. Then Kaz and company might get there head out of there azz and get with the program also!!

P.S. But if i have to i will get a gaming PC to play this game!

About to take build 321 for a spin, any recommendations for car/track combos I need to try out with this build?

"I am cautiously optimistic that the most recent version of the STM will see WMD testing soon. We still have to get a first pass on tire parameters roughed in for the rest of the cars. Right now we have focused mainly on the FA, since it is the one with the most extreme behavioral envelope." -AJ

I'm more than okay with this. :dopey:

Am pretty new to Project Cars and thought I might get a quick answer here, the mods like the F1 Lotus above? How easy are they to get into the game or do you have to have a higher purchase level?

The Lotus you see there is a skin for the Formula A (2011 F1). Anyone can use any skin they want.

Took the M1 Procar for a spin around the Nordschleife, I approve very much 👍 👍

Jambo: Have a look in the WMD forums. Theres a section for paints with many downloadable skins made by members. Place those files in the appropriate folder , select custom livery in the game menu and you're off. (more detailed instructions are in the forums)
A couple of old screenshots while I'm here.....

DrummingKing, your news is old:

Build 322 (due later today assuming it passes testing) includes an early preview of the new "Seta" tyre model (STM). It's still early days and there is plenty more to come, but it's at a stage now where more testing and feedback would be beneficial. Plus we wanted to reward/thank everybody for their support during the first year of the project by giving them something fun to play with over the weekend.

You have to run it with a command line. First car to get the update is the Formula A, while it works to a certain degree with other high downforce cars with slicks as well.

Thanks very much for the tips, I was a little sceptical following the Shift games but my first impressions of the game are great.

People must stop seeing shift in pcars. I'm glad your 1st impressions changed your view

Taken at face value I can see how people see Shift 2 in pCARS - hell, I did too! But the comparisons stop there, CARS is on a completely different level, it's actually worthy of a "sim" tag and not "arcade racer that thinks it's a sim" :)

My first impression was also a lot of Shift into PCars, and I still have that impression.

The thing that annoys me most is the transmission sound. It's still the exact same transmission sound all the way from FIA GTR years ago, that found its way into rFactor, then Shift and now it again pops up in PCars. And I also don't think the Pagani Zonda R sounds all that much good either.

I'm not degrading this game as I've never played it. But I've watched a ton of videos so far, and I am more impressed with the graphics than I am with the sounds effects and how the cars seem to handle in this game. I hardly doubt this kind of impression is what Pcars is aiming at.

I get people saying it looks a little like Shift, even people saying it sounds a bit like it I can accept. What I can't fathom is people who say it handles like Shift. It's nothing like it.

Not trying to open a can of worms here, but how exactly do you get an idea of how the cars handle based on videos?

Heh, I didn't even notice he said that. Pretty much opinion void if you haven't actually played it.

You can tell based on if they look "floaty" or if the person driving the car is having trouble keeping it straight. The movement of the camera, etc. If you have a lot of experience with racing games, it's easy to tell.

Camera movement is highly adjustable, which makes the camera point void imo. You could set all the camera settings to their loosest and the cars would appear to handle like a boat on a choppy sea...

Having trouble keeping a car straight can also be a reflection on the car setup, they might've gone with a very twitchy setup in a straight line for maximum cornering response etc. Because this is a racing sim there are so many possible variables and the only way to form a proper opinion is to actually try it for yourself.

This.

It's like watching a video of GRID and then watching a video of GT5 after that. In GRID you can clearly see the arcade-ness of the game by how much the cars seem to sideways float through corners at ridiculous speeds. It's the same with DiRT3, although to a lesser extent. Watching an onboard GT5 video clearly shows the car being planted and gripping the tarmac.

Same with rFactor, you just know it's a good sim when you see the onboard ALMS mods. After so many years of playing racing games, you just have a general feel and impression for it after a while.

But please understand me correctly here. I said I got an impression, I never said I was convinced it's another Shift. I am perfectly aware that this is nothing to Shift, but the way the cars drive from the onboard videos and the annoying transmissions sounds just remind me of the Shift videos. Remind, and that's all that connects Shift and Pcars in my mind.
