Update on the ghosting on PS4

Because about what I've said about the hundreds of people that have looked at our game in the QA process etc etc before it was viewed by the public, there is a small possibility here that people might have spotted a geninue bug, so despite it being a minor thing in the scheme of things, I want to get to the bottom of it. Call me OCD but a few hours of feedback conversion to perfect a possible visible error to a few percent of people who pay for our game is ****ing important.

So it's looking like a bug on PS4 that no one had picked up on...odd.

So it's looking like a bug on PS4 that no one had picked up on...odd.
is that from SMSrenderteam guy? be a bit odd if it's a bug seeing as it's quite apparent. i noticed it on one of the first PS4 vids i watched, but i watched a load again last night and it didnt really bother me

How is multiclass racing going to work in this game? If I'm doing the le mans in a gt4, do i have to compete with gt3's or not?

I dont think there is GT4 @ Le Mans in pcars, since in reality it is only GTE and LMP 1/2, I sincerely hope they only have GT3 (as a close replacement for GTE) and LMP 1/2.

In general, you are fighting within your class and for the overall win (for which you will most probabaly have to drive a LMP1 though).

I'll be using a pad as well, as the filthy casual I'm, but I wouldn't mind a few more degrees of rotation when turning into those sharper corners.
One thing that I wished racing games got right was the twitchiness of the wheel (in game) when using a pad. Looks really weird when you do small adjustments on straighaways.

Yes.

The bad: How wasn't this noticed by SMS/Namco and at WMD

The good: They're looking into it.👍

Honestly, when I watch those on-line videos I don't see the ghosting only motion-blur, but if you can point us to a time stamp in a particular video from the GIF fragment that you posted I'll certainly have a look.

I sort of feel that the comparison with GOW here is invalid - because the car is moving at 150+km/h and the camera / character is moving at least 1/10th of that, so the motion vectors in GOW are likely to be 10 times shorter, as is visible in your post.

Additionally the QA process internally first, then Namco's QA team and then 1st party's team haven't highlighted any issues around this area. Again, this is a subjective area so unlike the matters of absolute fact here that the render team have engaged in - feedback is really welcome. Motion-blur levels are a product not just of the graphics team, they are balanced by art direction and production team.

Cross-posted as I was responding to another post - I don't see the ghosting in game. It's present in individual frame screen shots/posts from videos as a matter of fact - which is a static 'analysis' not what you actually experience IMO.

So let's engage the scientific method here people - the slowed down segment is around 2 FPS - so someone take a longer segment say 10 seconds and repeat it at 2,5,10,30 and 60 FPS in a single video and let's look at the results.
Just to step back a little, aside from static screenshots in a mp4 are people really seeing a ghosting issue in the 60FPS videos?? Feedback please! So, I would like to qualify if this is a video pause artefact or a real motion problem. I don't see it (and coded the Motion Blur code on PC/XB1) but I'm open to the idea that it can improved in the live case - for me the paused online video doesn't represent the game experience and additionally the actual game pause has a separate path to deal with the artefacts people are talking about... nobody in the 100 strong team,Namco testers and 1st party have mentioned this.

Ha! This is actually down time for me - the game going gold was super cool and the D1P being certified earlier in the week on the first submission was great for the team. In the scheme of things we did our best and made it to the finish line. I don't see bugs like the one under discussion as a big issue because with several million video views it's only mentioned by a few people or in direct comparisons. But the info here is genuienly useful and will be actioned internally - and that's how WMD always has worked - people providing videos/comparisons and setup conditions to allow the render or game team to fix stuff.

The ghosting is obviously not down to anything in the video capture process simply because it only shows up in videos captured from PS4. If it was due to the capture process it would be showing up on PC & XB1 vids that run at 60fps, which it isn't.

Generally the graphics on the PS4 version look great. I agree that this ghosting/motion blur isn't a huge issue, but it does look quite ugly compared to PC & XB1 footage.

Since this bug only shows on PS4 version, it's quite understandable they didn't noticed that one earlier, given there wasn't that many builds available for testing...

Thanks for posting this information. The render chap seems to be saying what I have noticed, that it is an issue with paused video grabs, but not when pausing the actual game. So perhaps the video grabs just pick up on something that isn't seen in game. Anyway, it's great that they are looking into it, totally different attitude to some of the larger development teams with the big developers/publishers.

Gone into GAME in Brighton (who have apparently been running PCars whilst I've been at work this week) only to find FIFA running on both consoles.....:irked:

Asked about Season Pass and they said they hoped to have news early next week!👍

"We're looking into it" could mean anything from having a chat with someone, to actually doing something about it.
Whenever I've heard "We're looking into it." in the past, it's meant we're not doing anything about it.

Shoooooot...Just had an AMAZING race online. Was fighting for P9 at Brno in McLaren GT3 vs Merc...From lap 2 to lap 6 we were 0.1-0.2 seconds apart (I was in P10). I couldn't quite make the move, finally on the last lap (6) I was trying to outbrake him and actually did on a couple of turns but he had a slightly better corner exits, so in the end I still ended up 10th, but I think I would take him on if I had just one more lap. Fantastic stuff. We were inches apart and with no-so-great ping of 190ms (I think he is from France), it was as close as can be. Never did much online racing, but I guess it's fun when it all goes right.

My hands are still shaking...

Did you ask? When i went in Driveclub was on so asked a member of staff who loaded up the disc in the console already, PS4's have tons of demo's on them built in so folk can leave PCars and play something else.

obvious troll is obvious, bug will be fixed in patch

I see... its only trolling if someone who owns a XB1.

For months I've heard nothing stop about how XB1 owners would be getting a subpar experience and then: ghosting, only on PS4.

I doubt it will be fixed by the day one patch but we'll see :P

Now to pre-order since it seems the game is actually going to be released this time!
