Man. SMS is doing an outstanding job on this game. pCARS really deserves a lot of praise and a great rating. The sencery is amazing too, that's what I like in racing games.

3 things where GT5 still has a major advantage:

1. tree shaders
2. road textures
3. interior materials and lighting

I really hope SMS can up their game on at least the first 2 of those things. The bumps also seem off in some places but I think that, together with bumps, is a case of WIP.

Some of GT5's coloration still seems far to vivd to me.

The color seems more realistic in pCars and the dash lighting looks better.

If you look at the air ducts on the dash in pCars they look more defined than GT5.

And yeah GT5's steering imput looks nonexistent

I'm staggered you think GT5 road textures are better, I must find my copy. I played GT5 Prologue and GT5 for a long time, took many photos and one thing that I remember was low res textures everywhere but maybe you're on about road colour or something else? PS3 in general has poor textures, for like 4 years you only had Uncharted. GT5 only has nice textures for interior in photo travel. Forza 3 had many tracks that had far superior textures to GT5, not every track though as they probably weren't all redone, so please don't find some one off track that looks low res, in the main it has textures well ahead.

Trees I can only think you're on about lots of low res photo trees bunched together in GT5. Eiger rally course has good trees but the rest of the game doesn't. The spanish city circuit has some of the worst trees in a modern game.

Chillax people! I didnt mean in general, but only on the Nordschleife for the first 2 points.

Though admittedly I m not a fan of pCARS road textures in general, too bright imho and too comic like with all the skidmarks and stuff. But since they have a live track feature planned, maybe (hopefully) thats WIP and subject to change.

Trees also still need a big shader overhaul imho. They are theoretically better than in GT5 but they dont make much advantage of that because they are overly bright, have no self-shadowing (not even fake/baked) etc.

Nordschleife looks to be in very early stages still.

I agree though that the environments need to be improved, I said it in the past but don't know what resources and finished target is. Imola is said by some to kind represent the final product but I don't think it looks good overall outside road, curb textures. Spa is looking good building wise. Most of the games grass, foliage and tree colours are or seem to be either placeholders, or roughly coloured, incomplete.

Does this look better to you then? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Mi_xKz3WLw

Hopefully PDI get on top of 900 degree animations, actual steering input needed when playing it is existent though which is main thing. Project CARS Nurburgring track looks to be coming along well.

So you are saying the Madrid Circuit has some of the worst trees in a modern game, seriously?

Doesn't look that bad to me, looks rather good in fact:

In terms of looks i think GT5 looks better in every way even with the higher resolution of CARS, though the Project CARS circuit is incomplete, so it's not a fair test. Steering wheel animation is the only thing where PCars really wins for me.

I always have found GT5's steering input odd, especially since GT5P had if I recall much more input. Seems like it exists only in the tightest corners. Obviously PCARs does have far better steering input, but it looks abit static and abrupt.

Are you serious? Taken from your own link

Please expand the image to 1280x720.

Play the game at 1920x1080, it gets shockingly bad.

Some of the pics which are zoomed out and shot at distance then viewed at 700x then leaning back right back from my monitor might look okay. Can you not see it in the picture I posted. Some of the worst, please boot up GT5 and go there.

By the way, to any GT5 fan, I'm not knocking the game, its an old console and PD focussed on car models and lighting, design, continuity.

They did have it at 900 degrees before GT5P was released but cut it out for final version due to probably not getting hand animation correct.

I am serious and I see that you are too.

Still looks good to me, sure it is not 100% there but some compromises have to be made to make game run at 1080p and 60FPS or close to it.

I watched a video of track in 1080p now and it still looks good to me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VEd-txWaIvo&t=32s

You must have high standards, can you show me some of the best you seen if the above picture is some of the worst? Some pictures from Project CARS will be ideal as it is more related to this thread.

Very nice video DigiProst.👍

It shows the quality of GT's version but knowing PCars is a WIP it will be very interesting to see a year from now. I hope the density of the trees are improved. As odd as it sounds, for me that is a large part of what gives Nordschelife it's unique feel. Well, that and the fact it seems like the course is trying to kill you at all times.

Well if you think in the above pic that the trees look good then I can't really comprehend it.

Real time pics. I'm sure when some recount and eulogize about GT5, its from years of photo mode on forums, extremely edited in photoshop or through rose tinted specs. I don't remember cape ring this baron and alpha like but my over-riding memory of GT5 is good car models, good lighting in replays, poor textures, jaggies, poor environments. Suzuka painfully plain, low res and baron.

Driving for the first time in the spanish city track at launch, what struck me is how bad the trees were and also how bad the photo wrap was on the back straight, I was going at speed too.

Anyway, here's some pcars pics. not sure why I'm posting them. I said in reply to felix that texture and trees are not what's good about GT5. My view is pcars needs major work on environments but I've got caught up in some comparison. This is a new pc game and not fair, PD busted their balls trying to program for the PS3.

Felix said his comment was mainly about Nurb.

To compare it might have been nice to see raw bumper cam pics at the Ring from both (and pcars without injectors).

---

In general, obviously the quality of surroundings and materials is far superior in pcars for obvious reasons.

Why would you compare pc with ps3? Nonsense...

Agreed. And pCARS will obviously look better but its on PC AND because its newer. GT5 is a 2 year old game so why not compare pCARS when GT6 and FM5 comes out on console only, or better yet, lets not compare any games and contiune seeing those awesome pics of pCARS others post up and talk about pCARS itself in general please...

*Checks thread title*

Either I'm in the wrong thread or some of you are in the wrong section, because last I checked this was a pCARS thread and not a GT5-related one.

Please keep it as such.

There still releasing pCARS on PS3 right ?

The reasons why the scenery in GT5 isnt great are because 1st its a console, Theres so much Cars and other features there wasn't enoff room for good graphic and to keep it running smooth. Plus they put alot of work into the game to get physics right.

Well according to Rockstar games you are completely full of it.

Dear sweet baby Jesus in heaven...
I WANT THIS!!!
Just the pictures are enough to sell me on it!
This makes me horribly, terribly, excruciatingly anxious to get my new computer.
Friday can't come soon enough... My crappy backup laptop can't handle pCars, but when the new computer comes on Friday I'm definitely going to check this out!
(after I finish putting it together that is...)
