I picked up Project CARS today and after a few hours of playing around with all the cars and tracks I must say, this is a good game. The physics took some getting used to but it's great. My main complaint is that when I'm braking I have no idea if my wheels are locked up or not, there's no feeling of that. However, there's a relatively good feeling for everything else.

I'm not really one for tuning, but I think I'm going to have to get into to it if I want to succeed at this game. Some of the stock cars are dreadful to drive on a controller and they really need fine tuning.

I plan to start the career tomorrow so we'll see how that goes. In the meantime, could anyone recommend some good controller settings for the Xbox controller? i can't understand the depth of the settings for this game. Much appreciated!

If they do lock you will notice it,

Not sure about the rest of us, but to me the loss of sensation of the rear/front lockup under hard breaking started with with update 7.0

I was testing for brake balance, and noticed that I could not make them lock front or rear.
I was using "real" settings. I was tuning the RUF GT3 car. And the same was true when tuning the McLaren GT3 car.

I know they use ABS, however you can lock up ABS with excessive braking force. I am going to try the same thing with the ZakSpeed Capri I know this car does not have anti lock brakes. And with the "real" settings on, it should lock up under hard braking.

@Blood*Specter, I also use the "Real" settings and I thought it might have just been how my controller settings are or somethings. I was driving around in the Vantage GT3 and when I realized I missed my braking point I slammed on the brakes, and the wheels did lock up but I could not feel them lock up. Which is problem when you intend to drive in cockpit cam.

Yes, but I usually feel the car pull to one side or the other. Either the front or real end will slide depending on brake balance. After update 7.0 this feeling is not so much. I will test again after work I could be wrong.

So i was online last night and actually had some good racing for the first time in a very long time..... In a public lobby that is though. I guess i got lucky and got into a clean room. I got a club i race with but sometimes they don't always be on. But anyway after hearing that the ability to name your rooms online and chat won't be coming to Pcars1 i guess the online is gonna remain a mess sadly. I just want it to be more organized like GT.

So, finally got a chance to play it today, I'm still on v1.00, updates are currently downloading in the background, and my first impressions are... wow. Haven't had this much fun, and immersion, in a game since V8 Supercars 3.

Started off in Quick Race Weekend with the RWD P30 LMP1 at Dubai Autodrome International, and instantly took to the physics like a duck to water. No controller settings adjustments needed. It's a lot more 'smooth is fast' than GT6 ever was, and that's exactly how it should be. Sense of speed was pretty good, interior view is amazing and for once in a game I can actually use it without feeling 'claustrophobic'. The sounds obviously stood out to me straight away. Simply amazing. AI, still finding a good setting for that as I've just done two races so far. Haven't had any problems with them as of yet. Now, the thing that's plagued the game the most, bugs. Haven't had any experience of bugs yet. I'm not sure if my throttle sticking coming out of the first turn at Imola in a Formula Ford (Rookie) was a bug, or just lapse on concentration, but I'll let that pass for now.

Looking forward for these patches to download so I can get right into this game and post my full thoughts in a few days.

What should I be expecting when I get this game? Should most likely be getting it today since I've asked for it for my birthday.

1. You will need to take some time to set up wheel FFB, since there is a LOT of room to tweak. But doing so really brings out the quality of the physics nicely so it's absolutely worth the time.
2. A great track list
3. A good race car list
4. You can run practice or single races for every car and track combo, with full race weekend configuration options, and weather can be set to be as exotic as you like (e.g. 3 random weather slots with 10x weather speed change, you will regularly find yourself transitioning from wet to dry, or dry to wet to thunder storm, or fog rolling in)
5. Career mode is all about driving through race series, you can start as low as you like and work up to the LMP1s, take offers based on your performance, etc...
6. Online is functional but misses some of the usual advanced options for server configuration and selection.
7. No Porsche, but there are two fictional RUF race cars (GT3 and GT1) plus various road cars (the yellowbird is from a DLC pack though).

Happy Birthday!
Which was your go to game beforehand? PCars is great eye candy, but a lot of work to get the FFB feeling properly. Sounds are good but not top like in R3R or SCE, career mode is entertaining and accessible but the AI can behave erratic at times. Haven't played online yet but many feel that's a bit 'underdone' too.

No wheel as of now, unfortunately, as mine isn't compatible with the PS4. I had been playing rFactor and GT Legends most recently, and DriveClub.
No experience with rFactor or GT Legends unfortunately, and Driveclub i only tried at a mate's house, but that game falls in a different category.

You should upgrade your PC from what i hear :D

Currently börked tires that dont heat up properly. Will surely/hopefully/maybe be fixed in the next patch. So if you cant get any heat in them and slide around like a cow on ice, dont give up hope yet.

I dunno, some of my favourite cars' tyres are running very close to what I had before, so they're not all completely messed up. I didn't like patch 6.0's efforts at all.

With the AI on 100% and only using ABS, this game is more of a challenge than I expected, and I like that. I'm sure some of it is due to not having a wheel for the PS4. Only thing I've noticed that's bugging me a bit is the AI tends to be a bit too aggressive at times.

So i just play it as a full ownership.

At first, i thought it will be Shift but with far better physics. The more i played it, the more i felt it is a spiritual successor of rFactor, like rFactor sequel with better graphics and physics, which is actually a good thing. Even the game and career mechanics are the same. Now if only if the game has loads of tracks and car mods then no doubt people will migrate from rFactor to this.

Just having an Endurance 10 LMP Le Mans and also GT3 6 lap Nurburgring. The AI are really good.

Yep, I think the AI are really good now. I did two races yesterday against full grids of AI at Brno and Nurburgring GP, and was thinking how great they are to race against, I had a lot of fun. I had no problem going for gaps and racing side by side (door handle to door handle many times), they gave me room and never barged into me where as prior to the updates I wouldn't have been confident doing those things.

I think even the open-wheel AI has improved too, at least the Formula Renaults seem to behave. Was a bit more mental in the FB in the couple of races I ran, but generally was far less infuriating than in the past.

There are two things I still don't like about the AI: First it's the racing line they follow at some corners. They are far off the optimal line sometimes and you easily gain a couple of tenths only in that corner. Given the right car and track combination, they are regularly not even able to stay on track at certain corners.
Second thing is that the AI can break much later than you as the human player are able to. Exactly this is what I think causes most of the infamous divebombing. Because you break earlier than them, they shoot to the inside late in order to not hit you in the back and/or to try to overtake you. Make the AI break earlier and you probably eliminate most of the overly aggressive moves.

And another thing which just came to my mind: Raise the maximum AI strength to 120 or so. In some races, even at 100 the AI cars aren't even opponents for me. Being one second or more faster than the second placed driver is no problem.

I am actually waiting for a larger AI update since release as the whole game has been called Work in Progress with a lot of improvements still to come. I highly doubt now this will ever come.

This post somehow sounds more negative than it really is. It is still so exciting and so much fun when you are in the middle of the pack fighting back and forth for every single position. The thing is though, it could be still be even more awesome.

I did notice that with AI strength. I managed to win a 125cc kart race at Greenwood by 17+ seconds in a 15 lap race but didn't get to the lead until lap 3.

Did a 30 car grid road car cup race at Oschersleben earlier and turn 1 became a parking lot because the AI piled up. As I was in the lower class in the field, driving a Megane 265 and starting last, I'm not sure exactly what happened but when I got to the corner, cars were all over the place. Managed to get by half the field though.

I like how there's no rubberbanding or chasing a "rabbit" either. If the AI is catching me or leaving me behind, then I know 100% that I'm not driving my best and need to improve my pace.

I also have to agree that the AI has improved a lot since this game release. While PSN was down yesterday i decide to do a 45 minute race at de la sarthe and i was doing a formula B race. I started last on purpose and when i was working my way up the AI was giving me a bunch of room and wasn't being super aggressive like how they was in the past. I didn't finish the race (because i crashed with like 15 minutes to go, i push the car to much) but i had a blast. AI was set to 88% by the way.

Dont know if this is the right place to post this (please direct me to it if so), will Project CARS 2 have a Paint Shop? Like Forza does?
