I didn't know the AI was improved, did they mention it in the patch notes? Might be the placebo effect otherwise.
The AI are fast and you have to race them which is great, but then you see a replay and you notice they drove over the grass in order to stay next to you :D
Turn 4 at Imola is a great example of where the AI cheat. The right-hander just before the slow left. I played at 100% there the other night and every single time I approached that turn with a car behind me they'd divebomb straight over the inside curb. Jerks.

Question: What is the UDP option in the options menu for? Don't remember seeing it the last time I went to the options menu. What does it do?

Telemetry, crew chief apps on other devices for use on consoles also. It's the big thing.

Its very cool, really great addition, I have to say though i have the Crew Chief one and its good for 'spotting' cars and will keep it for that but i find the rather crass immature swearing a bit naff and all a bit forced and silly,
coming form a racing background If anyone ever spoke to my brother like that (he's a racer) I'd be pretty shocked.
I am sure you can turn off swearing but i just don't see the point in it in the first place?

Mine was off by default (on PC). Had to turn it on for my amusement. If you're on Android I think it defaults to on which is a bit silly. I actually turned the spotter off as it was just way too frequent, even adjusting the settings didn't keep him quiet much. I increased the frequency of lap times, car ahead/behind times and other general stuff which I quite like. Worth having a tinker with the properties.

After about a month in the game(on PC) I have to say I like the game. I enjoy driving in it. It looks fantastic and the car needs more of your work to go fast. Good track and car selection too even coming from the a million and one car of Gran Turismo.

It also reminds me a lot of why I don't like PC games after playing so much GT in the last 4-5 years. Its fiddly, you have to mess with FFB, and its a lot of trial and error and the way them implement it was quite annoying with individual car setting tied to the tracks too. I jumped back in GT6 yesterday and I just like it just sorta works. GT6 gave me the essential FFB info I want and I don't have to mess with it. I do like the detail in the FFB but some cars just feel terrible if you don't set it up right.

AI is probably as bad as GT6 to race with. Their awareness of you is just as bad. I feel like games used to do this ok from years ago(GTR2, rFactor, EA's F1 games...etc), how newer games still do so bad I've no idea. At least pace wise they can be there.

I wasn't aware of what was promised or if the game delivered on them(nothing can be as bad as GT6, and despite that I still played it a lot). For cheat Steam sales price it was quite good. If AI works better it'd be more fun to race with. And I guess I hope for more DLC down the line. Assetto Corsa is pretty cheap now too, but with so many cars and track overlap to this I am not sure if I'd go that route.

If you race the AI properly, and the track properly, the AI won't be a problem.

Thats one of those lines that i see all to often on the official forum, your basically saying its the guys fault when clearly theres issues with PCars AI, its not awful by any stretch but its not perfect either and i can be displaying perfect race craft and have a car pass me on the grass.
Its unfair to assume that the reason the AI is poor is because of the player especially as SMS released a classic Lotus pack where the AI can't cope at all.
As good as PCars is its way off stuff like raceroom and AC IMO. Its a lot closer to simcade, but its fun.

When you are side by side and they turn into you despite you giving them a wide berth, I don't buy that at all. I also been punted off corners more than once when I was leading, on racing line, and their "passing attempt" was just use my bumper as brake on the same line.

Im a big fan of the AI in this game i think they are on another level compared to other games but at times they are insane quite a number of times, Oulton Park Chicane for example where they constantly dive bomb the inside and get took out by the great big bollard sitting there. The aggressiveness when they are behind needs toned down slightly.

Yes Oulton park catches out alot of them.

That's just SMS overdoing it though, games like Assetto Corsa or Stock Car Extreme only have a couple of FFB sliders. I like the way AC does it, a couple of main sliders and then 1 individual overall FFB slider per car, in case a given car feels to light or heavy still.

In some of the older gMotor games I remember they have a few slider where they can tune the contribution of engine vib, brake, curb...etc to you FFB input. I feel like that was the easiest to understand the tune. This is very heavily on the physics side and makes it just hard to understand and adjust without going through all the documentation. Eventually if you are really bothered by it(like I was) you will go through the trouble but its just not something I think a gamer should need to go through to enjoy the game fully.

BTW on the AI front:

I wasn't anywhere near this when the pile up there happened....

Older game does this too, but in a lot of those they have the courtesy of resetting the cars back to the pit. This just basically stops a session...

Completely honest though, that chicane is a terrible layout anyway. One car makes a mistake there and it's going to be a bottleneck like that.

Dont buy a $100 wheel, not worth it after 6 months. Save for something better. If you're serious about project cars then dump the xbox1 and use the sales proceeds for the wheel.

The above is from a thread on official forum... thats a MOD speaking. So thats what they think to Xbox owners with PCars...nice. Love to see how they would cope with just PC sales revenue...

Here's another quote from Umer:

I am a PC player and certainly i DO NOT want pcars to be a PC-exclusive title. I want everyone on modern hardware to have the chance to experience pcars. In the end it means more racers for me and growth of this dying genre. Which leads to further R&D and better racing games in the future. There's no need to subdivide our community into PC v Console, we are all racers and we are here for the same objective.

So what's your point exactly?

Lol...... just like politicians....

We all know that the money comes from consoles but they are very much trying to keep PC players happy above and beyond...second quote from Umar is just a desperate back track.
Reading that thread i think old Umar will regret ever saying that... take away console sales and PCars 1 would be struggling.

To recap : MOD on official forum said basically if your serious about PCars then get it on PC.... that format that sold like 6% of the total sales of PCars..way to keep your main clients happy..

Sony's console accounts for 63% of Project CARS sales. Meanwhile, Xbox One accounts for 31% of sales, whereas PC accounts for 6%.

I wonder if that 6% includes the free WMD copies and all the free WMD DLC's ?

Please reread said thread and don't make out-of-context quotes.
This post was made in a thread where the OP already switched from playing PCARS on XB1 to PC and was asking for advice on a relatively cheap wheel. This has nothing to do with belittling another platform.

Btw. PCARS sales are more like:

15% PC (maybe even higher due to many Steam sales)

60% Ps4

25% Xbox

he said "if your serious about PCars" so is it not taken seriously on console?

Oh glad you cleared up the sales for me..massive difference...

it matters not the console and mainly PS4 out sold PC by a MASSIVE margin... they are desperately trying to keep a minority of the PC elitist brigade happy on official forum, seems like having your cake an eating it...

If as Ian says the consoles are at 'max performance for PCars" then do they scrap PCars 2 for xbox 1 and possibly PS4? Will they heck.
The game can run on consoles but they optimised badly and out sourced QA to some random place on the cheap... there core customers that is...well done..
