PS3 General Discussion

the warhawk video looked like the game will be awsome to play but the graphics when he blew up the tank were a bit well lets say lousy compared to some games on the 360 the explosion just didnt seem like that good graphics compared to games such as CoD 2

wow! PS3 is gonna be good! now I just hve to figure out how to afford one:confused:

Start saving. If you have a job that is. If you haven't then ask your parents really nicely.

In comparison to what? My take is this, unless I've seen something better, (i.e. exploding cars, tanks, etc) then I'm not going to say this sucks. I'm just going to say it looks good.

Because something else is better doesnt mean it sucks. I know for a fact that wipeout pure has better looking explosions than many console games but doesn't mean they suck. They dont look bad imo.

The explosions look like something you'd find on Star Wars Rogue Squadron on the N64. Even COD2 has better explosions, and those look like what happens when you turn on the stove.

I would think for a PS3 game, 1st gen or not, explosions would be nearly on par with GRAW, not an N64 game.

There are a lot of things I seen in that video that dont seem like a near finished product. Theres no indication of what stage that build was.

Why is he wearing Mickey Mouse gloves?

not sure if anything like this has ben posted before, but here it goes.:)

I hope the PS3 isn't like the begining of the HDTVs where everyone wanted one, but when they got it, they were dissapointed on the picture quality and then found out they needed HD components. Are we going to have to buy a bunch of extra stuff to get the full experience that the PS3 can offer or will an old tube work just fine? i'm not complaining just wondering what u guys think.👍

PS3- $500-$600
HD LCD -$1200-$2000
home theater -$200-$1000
:nervous:

OK, now don't jump all over me on this one. I know GameSpot is NOT the most reliable gaming website out there. OK, it can be down-right awful for factual information, but they had this article recently and I'm beginning to believe it. How about you?

Gran Turismo HD forerunner to new next-gen GT
Polyphony Digital head Kazunori Yamauchi tells Famitsu that PS3 game is merely a taste of what's to come; title finalized.

Polyphony Digital head Kazunori Yamauchi spoke about the next Gran Turismo title in the latest issue of Weekly Famitsu. There were two points of interest in the article. First, the parenthetical "working title" has been dropped from the name, implying that Gran Turismo HD is indeed the final title. Second, while Yamauchi lavished praise on the game's high-definition graphics, he stated that the game was not the true next-gen heir to the popular racing series' crown.

Gran Turismo HD (working title)
Platform: PS3
Publisher: SCEA
Release: TBA In the article, Yamauchi called Gran Turismo HD a "port" of the data from Gran Turismo 4, upgraded to take advantage of the PlayStation 3's graphical capabilities. He also said it is "a step in the process of developing a next-generation GT game."

Yamauchi also implied that development on that next-gen game is already under way, albeit at an early stage. "We are working on a version of GT that supports the full PS3 specification," Yamauchi said, adding, "but in this transitional version, I think you'll get a taste of the potential that next generation games hold."

Yamauchi said the idea for the game actually came from an unlikely source, the Photo Mode in GT4, which allowed players to take high-resolution stills. "I thought it would be incredible to see these stills animated in real time," he said. Running at 60 frames per second in 1920x1080p resolution, Gran Turismo HD supports the very highest resolutions available to Japan's newest HD televisions, according to Famitsu.

^i will probably still buy it if it supports online play, but man we are going to have to wait for a while for GT5. At least from this article, it seems they are going to take their time to develop the next gen. racer that will take advantage of all PS3 capabilities. cool, i can wait.

Again, it's very vague if GTHD will have online play. It's hard to tell from the only reliable source for this game, which is this video right here... GTHD

EDIT: In the video, Kaz talks about beta testing online GT4 at the 11:30 mark. It's not quite clear if he was talking about online play for GT HD, but I guess that is what he meant.

I've been saying this for months. Of course everyone poo-pooed me over it, but I'd really rather have something now rather than wait a year or longer for a Gran Turismo which had more than 600 cars and damage and cockpit view and so forth. But why would GT HD be such a bad thing?

"We are working on a version of GT that supports the full PS3 specification," Yamauchi said, adding, "but in this transitional version, I think you'll get a taste of the potential that next generation games hold."

What did GT HD have at E3 in its preliminary form?

- 12 cars on asphalt, 4 on rally tracks
- High definition cars with incredibly small yet easy to read decals
- More cars, with additional paint jobs - a paint shop, perhaps?
- Online capability, with downloadable content from a master server

And that was with a mere month or so of work. It evidently came together very quickly.

And what does "a version of GT that supports the full PS3 specification" and "you'll get a taste of the potential that next generation games hold" suggest? Graphics are a no brainer, but the "full PS3 spec" suggests more than a graphics tweak to me. I think it means some of GT5's game engine and physics. Since HD is being developed in some laborious way, it's clearly not just a port. Otherwise they would have just shoved the rest of GT4 into the game engine, fixed some things to make it work stably with Cell and RSX and have a playable game at Leipzig. Or at least a video.

With some actual work done on it, they could build all sorts of things into GT HD. Up to 20 cars perhaps. Actual bot AI. A comprehensive online structure. Racing modification and a paint shop. Drifting physics for the kids. Elements from the previous versions of Gran Turismo. Remember that it's listed at Tokyo as Gran Turismo Series. Who knows what it will end up being?

I know I've said it and said it a number of times, but I think this thing will rock, and almost all of us with PS3s will get it and enjoy it. I'm ready.

well anyways.. i couldn't get a job. so what i did = this... i have like 300 euro's right and i had a convo with my parents and they are going to lend me another 300 and i will have to pay them back when i have the money ...

they think its worth it. so .. he.. convince ur parents of all the capabilities of the ps3

(excuse my english)

take that xbox360

and i so totally agree wit this dude.. the ps3 is so worth its money..

nice story dude

GT HD sounds like it should be released sometime in 2007. I didn't want to buy PS3 until the actual Gran Turismo came out, but this HD might drive me crazy enough to go out and buy one earlier than I wanted to. :guilty:

Online would be nice. Then I could race against my friends anytime(maybe you guys too!).

i dont realy want GTHD because all it is is a downsized version of GT4(i read it has less cars and less tracks) but in high def the only way i would buy it is if alot of people got together and started tournaments online which would be pretty cool and if it was started on this website we could have a forum that shows us our place and whether we are amature etc.

I find it funny that you guy's would nitpick warhawks "explosions" when it's art direction is completely different from games like GRAW etc.

This game is no where near aiming for realism, with everything being fantasy and cartoonish, do you know how odd it would look to have "realistic" explosions?

Anyway, the game looks fantastic, has tons of enemies on screen, and the fact that air and ground battle is seamless gives it even more bragging rights under it's belt.

i didnt say i wanted them to be realistic just better graphics

Explain "better graphics". You've already got hundreds of planes, tons of people on foot, awesome water, great clouds, destructible environments...and you're dissappointed because the explosion wasn't all you hoped for?

I'm just wondering, I mean, how does it get "better"? A bigger boom? More smoke? more sparks? what? If you yourself cannot clearly define "better" and you just want "more" then you should take a step back and watch it again. "Better" wouldn't look "better" with this game, it would look out of place.

what i mean by better graphics is graphics that atleast rival the xbox 360 or even tekken 6 on the ps2 (if youve ever played as ganru) has better explosions when you hit someone or during the beginnig scenes when the manson explodes it looks graphically better

it just looks as though its an explosion from a n64 or an amega(if you ever owned one cant remember model but its from about 1994 or something like that) because of the way the blocks of tank fly everywhere (the rest of the surrondings have better graphics in my opinion)

You need glasses. Basically you're just throwing it out there because you're disappointed, whatever, have your cake and eat it too, but this looks no where near the quality of any N64 game ever released, from explosions to every single polygon on screen.

In GoldenEye, you got a single expolosion animation, with no damage to the surrounding environments, no interactivity.

In Turok, same story.

No N64 game, good or bad, comes close to this.

Obviously you don't understand art direction, so me explaining that to you again would be pointless. So I'll just leave you to your own opinion, whatever it may be, and go on my merry way.

Downsized? What caused you to draw this conclusion? Good chances are it will have all the content plus more. Are most of you forgetting that GTHD will have bikes? All the bikes from Tourist Trophy makes it more than just GT4. A game that still sells for $40new.

it's like they are making a huge DEMO with GTHD, just so we can get a glimpse of future games.

I invite you to play Star Wars Rogue Squadron on the N64. The explosions are strikingly similar. Granted, Warhawk might let you put bullet holes into walls, and blow up part of a building, but for a game that has explosions eerily similar to a game two generations older, it's lame.

When it comes to explosions by themselves, Warhawk = SW Rogue Squadron. Warhawk explosions are pretty much a hi-res version of the SWRS explosions.

When it comes to explosions, and destructible elements, and the stuff on the screen, Warhawk > SWRS and any other N64 game.

But then again, all this should be a given, since Warhawk is on a much, much, much more powerful system, compared to the N64.

Warhawk should be a real fun game, I'm not doubting that. It's that the explosions should be on par with everything else. It's not going to be a dealbreaker, but the game would be definitely be enhanced if there would be good looking explosions instead of cheesy ones. I know this game is still in progress, so hopefully the explosions are fixed.
