I have posted this elsewhere so apologies, only just noticed this thread.

Ian, I have a question for you. With the introduction of live track and localized weather, how do the AI determine when it is appropriate to pit? (.e.g certain parts of the track are wet/dry). If we recall in the original p cars, we had a lot of issue with strategy and the AI not taking into account certain conditions.

Do we also know what sort of improvements have been made to the AI this year as a whole?

Offline racing is incredibly key to me so I would hope this isn't going to be overlooked again.

To piggyback off of this, will AI have different strategies among each other? One set with Inters and another with wets? One with hard tires and another with mediums?

Now that would be fantastic. With the raceability seen in the Group A video, this is really the final main piece in the puzzle. (I'm classing oval as a sub piece.)

I have a question, which may have already been asked, but have only just joined, so just curious if the mid-race saving feature that was discussed awhile back for PC1 has been studied further for PC2. I know there is some concern of players saving constantly so they never have bad results, but offline, it would be great to have IMO as I don't have the time to run a full 24 hour event at one time but over the course of time coming back to it and having progress saved would be nice.
That being said, really looking forward to PC2, looks really good so far!

@IanBell @The_American In the race settings post on the official website there is a date setting as well as a season setting. Does one of these override the other? It was set to December and Summer in the post for example.

12/06/2017 could mean either December 6th or June 12th depending on where you live. December can be either Summer or Winter depending on the track selected. More clarification on this would be nice.

Don't quote me on this but I thing it follows northern hemisphere (read UK?) seasons. And if you set the date to 1AUG2017 and then change the season other than summer I *think* the date changes to an appropriate date automatically. Same thing if the season is set to something and you set a date that happens to be on a different season the season changes automatically.

And also the date is DAY/MONTH/YEAR, on my PC... If there's any Aussies in here with access to PC2 that can test they might say otherwise (doub it)

I think it's as FS7 pointed out. May be track dependent. Unless, either season or date, overrides the other. However, weather choice may override both.
Interlagos in the snow, December 6, 2017.

Oops! I forgot about that.

I don't think so @05XR8 but, I have not tested so again, don't quote me. Truth to be told, even with all the work still going on, the date think may detect your windows settings, a.e., and adjust. But again, I don't think so and also, don't quote me :)

BTW, some tracks won't have all the seasons as it doesn't make any sense.

I'm on Xbone. So, i'm thinking... It's winter right now, here in Australia. If I choose Bathurst, 1/june/2017, it may potentially snow. That's the default. If i choose 1/January/2017, the seasson is Summer., but I choose weather to be Snow. Wouldn't the weather be the override?

I really don't know mate. But then, there's the MP issue. You can run with someone where is "backwards" for you and for practice purposes you can practice in what would be wet weather for you and sunny for everyone else. I mean, that we need the same baseline for everyone else.

I'm curious myself.

For sure, we'll find out soon.

A question for @IanBell and team, what is braking like in the damp/wet/snowy conditions - are the distances extended and a case of feeling for grip? Cheers
of course, especially if you select the wrong tires ;)

Racing in weather besides Bone Dry is gonna set pC2 apart from the other games. In pC2 we not only improved the vehicle physics but now you get all the environment physics too. I hope we've proven that now, otherwise more videos/articles forthcoming.

I don't believe a word of it. Send all of the videos!

Any chance of some comparison videos? For instance, braking into the first corner at Monza in the same car but damp/wet/snowy conditions? The same for going through a particular corner or set of corners would be nice too.

Nice Idea!
Although, along with the HUD visible it would be better so we get an idea of varying cornering speeds in different conditions.

I'm not convinced by the accuracy for the LT 3.0 so far from viewing the videos. I think the general consensus from the sim community is that it looks a bit too stable in wet & snowy conditions at this point.

I'm not convinced by much the sim community, apart from a few trusted people, have to say.
It's pretty venomous out there, so I'll buy the game and decide for myself.

I already think PCars is the best racing game ever made, so any improvement in PCars2 is a bonus for me.

They may think it 'looks' that way but it certainly doesn't 'feel' that way to me when I play the game most nights ;)

This is my favorite time of the release window. :sly: Judging general physics of cars is one thing. If you have a basic understanding of vehicle dynamics then sure anyone can do this. Saying how much grip something should have in the wet or on snow is entirely different and if you haven't experienced this yourself then there's not a whole lot of validity to those opinions.

I have to say i find it funny when the 'sim community' says they want real life everything and then pro drivers tell them what's what and they want to disagree.

What do you expect to see? If someone is driving well under said conditions the car is going to appear under control.

If the driving is poor and the car is all over the place sliding off the track and into other cars then what? Its too slippery?

If your looking for nuance, good luck trying to get that from a video

No need to get up all up and hard everybody.

It's still WIP.

Although I don't think that a physics Ph.d by YT videos is possible, and even more using a WIP piece of software, some things can be seen: a wet laptime better than RL dry would be an example of something wrong.

But probably only those who have been in RL races or at least have track experience might be able to spot a little more IF paying close attention at the exact moment. And then even IRL one can miss too much until get back home and watch the nowadays awesome super slo-mos :D

Still, regardless of what one (think) (s)he sees in a game video, it won't say much in a game that's WIP and where everything is pretty much dynamic and may lack better "calibration" which is all that software is about assuming all the math is right (which we might never get right otherwise RL will not be needed anymore :D )

And if a video is made from a replay is even harder to see something because replays in games usually have less than real-time definition.

PS: I know I know, you all nervous because September 22nd is still far away :D :D
