You can't start a conversation with a banned person.

That's true, but you see the same thing if the person does not wish to receive PMs. There seem to be exceptions to all the indicators I know of. But Banned next to somebody's name is pretty unmistakeable.

I've been reading up on some of the older posts/threads, and let me tell you, playing GTP historian is quite fun...

Also, I am quite taken by this type of post... it's like I'm whispering...

So here's a question I'm pretty curious about: Why are there sometimes links in signatures that almost goad people in to clicking on them? What's the penalty for clicking the link?

I swear nothing terrible will happen to you if you click it.

I have one. Do you Mods enjoy banning people? Or do you just feel sorry for these people who pee in the pickles, and cause uproar.

There are people who make banning easy and satisfying.

But if you've tried your best to be reasonable and nice and helpful and they still don't learn, even after a dozen infractions, redacted infractions, temporary bannings and school counselling... well, we can't help but be a little disappointed.

Still, there are people who make it easy. Suffice to say, we don't perma-ban anyone who doesn't really, really, really deserve it. And we have not-banned lots of people who also deserve the hammer.

Is it fun being a moderator? Is it fun planning for world domina-? Is it fun overseeing everyone and knowing everything? :P
It has its moments.

At best I'd say we're indifferent. We are simply providing you with what you, apparently, so desperately crave by disregarding the rules you agreed to live by while on GTPlanet. As far as we're concerned, you remaining here and following said rules is no different than breaking the rules and being gone.

Interesting. I don't crave to break rules, I would be banned permanently right now.

What the others have said. I rarely enjoy banning someone, especially if it's someone the staff has tried to work with over the course of numerous interactions. To me, it's simply upholding the house rules a friend has posted; none of the rules Jordan has created for GTP are particularly wild or demanding, and require the same sort of common courtesy you would show if you were visiting a house in real life. If a guest doesn't want to agree to them, they shouldn't come in the door.

I can understand, if the person has been reasoned with a couple times. Great analogy as well. I'm sure if someone is a complete hoon, there is some satisfaction sending him for a permanent vacation.

You quoted my post but did you read it? I take no satisfaction in banning anyone and I'd hazard a guess that none of the rest of the staff does, either. That said, there is that moment of relief when you know you won't have to deal with their nonsense anymore but that is in no way tantamount to satisfaction.

Ai! :nervous:

Belgians don't get banned, they get put in a special cellar where no one can hear them. :scared:
