3-4 years between games is the average

People are still burned from GT5 which is where this extra long dev time narrative came from
Yeah... how much GT5 has been in development? 4 years? IIRC, GTHD was apart from GT5. If not, then it should be 5 years in development... wow, freaking insane for a racing game. And the final product didn't even looked polished enough.

What I'm trying to say is delays might happen. "PD is a slow dev" is highly exaggerated. PD actually have a decent output after the release of GT4. They were able to developed multiple projects while working on with GT5.

The expectations for the next GT are so high. I miss so many tracks and features. When I think about it : a whole generation without Deep Forest, GT mode and car modifications! A French journalist said this week that the next GT will be announce late May, early June. I want to be optimistic and hope GT7 is planned for Q4 2020. However, I don't want a GTSport 2, I want a complete game at launch. Forza 8 will probably be huge and Poly won't top its car list, so Polyphony has to understand that sometimes less is more : Gran Turismo 3. Many good signs at the studio and who knows, GT7 could be the return of the golden age.
Give us sauce about the GT announcement. Is there any article about it?

Somehow I expect that Sony will publish Gran Turismo 7 for the PS4 at the end of the year with a patch for PS5. But if that happens we will have to wait ~4 years for the true nextgenOnlyGT.

If it comes out this year it´s for sure PS4 Game.

If they do that oh boy...

That is Fake news.

It´s not news it´s just possible that they do it, but if you look back this could happen, they did it with GT4 on the ps2 and with GT6 on the ps3. But at least this time we could get an upgraded Version on the PS5 at Launch. But what they did with GT4 and GT6 was bad, just think about it GT6 launched December 6, 2013 for PS3 and GT Sport October 17, 2017 for PS4. 4 ****ing years without a Gran Turismo on the PS4.

"Fake news" is news that isn't true. What the user posted was his opinion of what could happen - which cannot be either news or untrue. What he thinks might happen might not happen, but that doesn't mean he's lying about what he thinks might happen.

What you mean is "I don't agree".

Let´s be clear I really hope we get a real nextgen GT7 for the PS5 and that soon (within 1Year). They could launch the PS5 with updated GT-Sport and by the end of the next year publish a real nextgen GT7. But somehow I belive they really could release a GT7 for PS4 and PS5 with slighlty updated gfx and then we have to wait years for the true nextgen Gran Turismo. :x

GT4 came out around 2 years before the PS3 even released.

and with GT6 on the ps3

The big difference here is that GT6 released after the PS4 came out (Nov 2013 for the PS4, Dec 2013 for GT6). Making GT6 a crossgen release would've held back the PS4, and releasing it solely on PS3 meant it would be compared to the other big racing game from back then, Forza Motorsport 5 (which was solely a next gen release). It was a lose-lose situation apart from there being an obvious install base advantage on the PS3

Making the next GT a crossgen release will hold the PS5 back, especially when you consider the jump in performance compared to current gen. Releasing on PS4 solely means PD are in the same dilemma that they had when GT6 released - they've released a game on old hardware after newer hardware has released, meaning it'll most likely take 3-4 years for a game to release on current gen. I doubt they'll make this mistake again and will develop their next game solely for the PS5

That doesn't even mention that it'll be incessantly compared to MS' next-gen output, as Forza Motorsport 8 is set to be a launch title for the Xbox Series X

Finally, GT Sport doesn't require a re-release. PS4 games are backwards compatible with the PS5, and Kaz stated the next GT game would a "combination of past, present, and future". I don't think a re-release of a game developed on old hardware meets that criteria

What i heard is that Forza Motorsport 8 will be cross gen... Maybe GT7 will be too?

@TS050

my bad I mixed the part with GT4 up.

@MroczMR
well that is what I believe, a PS4 game with upgraded gfx for the PS5, but I doubt this kind of game would push the limits of the PS5.

To be honest... Even if it will be PS5 only title, i don't expect anything more than updated and complete version of GT Sport with added real Career mode and maybe dynamic time of day/weather and RayTRacing. I am pretty sure that GT Sport works as a base for GT7. With each console generation this is always the case, first games doesn't push consoles to their limits, they looks like slightly updated versions of last year games. The biggest and best graphic monsters always comes in +/- mid life of generation.

It was a case in past but now aaa studios are very proffesinal and competent and also consoles are much easier to develop for. Ryse son of rome is one of best looking x one games and was launch title.

well driveclub was a real nextgengame and it was published within the first year of the ps4. Sure it had it´s problems with the onlinefeatures but other than that it was a real nextgen Racer. :)

I think 2022 is the year,gt sport will have some big updates in the first year of the ps5.

If we’ve already been told that updates will be modest this year why would they then ramp updates back up on old hardware

History tells us that Polyphony are not the type of company to go back to an old game and update it after a new game comes out. I doubt this will change with GTS being playable on PS5.
