Attended this meeting at the start of the week and my pictures can be found below, a good mix of racing and a very varied day in terms of the weather, shifting between sunshine and rain all day.

For details on the ‘regular’ Castle Combe championship races have a look at the following race reports (.pdfs).

Good job with the pics and vids Scaff, I was there too (as always) for possibly my last ever time as a spectator at Combe, next time i'll be marshaling! Pity about the weather.
The Camaro was gorgeous, and the driver had some MADTYTESK!LLZ. Had Ontario plates showing which was interesting.

That amazing example of a Ford Mirage (Basically a Ford GT modified to run Enduros, won at Spa, 5.7litre Gurney Weslake engine, the model before the Cosworth engines were used, etc.) is owned by a friend of mine, who for anyone not there, span while pursuing a Cobra (Ram Cobra, 6.8litre EDA Chevy engined) and had passed him a few laps later.

We also witnessed the longest oil slick ever known at Castle Combe, spraying all over the racing line chosen by the majority of drivers, was roughly measured at 1.55 miles, only 0.3 of a mile from running a ring around the entire circuit. Great fun for the marshals who proceeded to throw all the sand, cement powder and sawdust they had at it, until they ran out and noticed it was making little to no difference, possibly made obvious to them by the Formula Fords travelling sideways down the track.

I will have to keep an eye out for you all in orange the next time I'm at Combe (which will be the 23rd June for the British Race Day - tickets already bought) 👍 .

The weather wasn't too bad, at least the worst of the rain kept away for most of the day.

The Camaro driver most certainly was in a class of his own, superbly smooth driving.

Easily the race of the day (anyone interested its the Castle Combe Sports Racing & GT Challenge videos) and the fight between the Mirage and Ram was intense, we were around at quarry when the Mirage spun and the drive he put in to get back into 1st was amazing (and to think someone in another thread tried saying only recently that road/track racing doesn't produce close finishes).

Yes the second FF1600 race of the day certainly did give the drivers a challenge and a half, the level of standing water on the tracks was nasty (second two of the videos) and the oil if I recall ran from Westway right down to the start/finish line.

Can't wait till my next visit.

Nice pix and vids scaff 👍 - Combe's a nice little circuit, it's just a little too far away, and the noise regulations a little too draconian for us to bother making the journey for. Our series has a race there in early August but i doubt we'll make it. Do you have any plans to get to Silverstone for the 'Classic' at the end of July?

I certainly am looking at going to that one at Silverstone, if you are going to be racing then I will make sure I go.

Well, we are certainly planning on going. But due to our amateurish amateur-style operation, i can usually confirm whether we will be attending no more than 24hrs before hand :dunce:

Damn - Missed the recent Castle Combe event! Do you know when Japfest is this year? Don't want to miss that.

You already have, it was on the 19th of May, I didn't go myself but a couple of friends who did were not to impressed.

Save you pennies and go to this instead

Also at Castle Combe and a much better day out.

If you can, attend the Castle Combe Rallyday, 500hp Audi Quattro drifting and the chance to meet several world-famous rally drivers (not sure who's going this year, but met Colin and Alistair.Mc last time)

Residents around Combe really get my back up, they choose to move next to a daily active circuit, but don't expect noise to disturb them? then they get their own way and have the noise level limit cast over us? If I ever become a millionaire, i'll buy their houses and turn them into rubble.

The noise restriction also puts people off, as they think that it stops 'decent cars' from racing. Luckily, Combe is having a big come-back, and most events are packed. So come along, as long as you don't stand beside me, point at a Camaro and say 'That's a Ferrari' as one guy did, because I WILL kill you.

Will definitely be at Rallyday. It is one of the best days of the year. Plenty of great cars and as you say really well attended. BTW isn't it later this year?
See you there.

Its the 22nd September this year, and I have to say in my opinion one of the best days out of the year (you can find pictures from last years in this very thread - just check out the links in the first post).

Wasn't it last year where the heavens opened and everybody got absolutely soaked. Remember sheltering in the buildings that were being constructed by the paddock. Good fun though.
