I noticed u buy a lot of storage. DO u need that much?lol
Well, each 500GB external eSATA drive for the DVRs allow for only about 80 additional hours of HD video... or about 40 movies. We record a lot of HD movies, but are either not in the mood to watch it soon after we record it, and or like to keep some of our favorites for future viewing. We also record a lot of the excellent HD documentaries/shows of Discovery HD, HD Theater, National Geographic HD, Science Channel HD, etc.... with so many excellent HD content, we can easily fill up a 500GB drive in just a few weeks, in the event we never deleted anything.
As for the external HDs we use for our PCs and PS3, we also have hundreds of hours worth of home movies in both SD and HD, and countless thousands of digital photos. In terms of music, we have well over 20,000 songs ripped from our CD and LP collection as well as a large collection of songs from iTunes.
In terms of the PS3, there is so much HD content
(movie & game trailers & clips, BTS & "Making Of" videos, footage from game conferences, and even some music videos) that if one were to download it all, it would easily fill a 250GB drive.
As far as using a larger internal HD for the PS3, besides the added convenience and organizing options by storing media on the HDD, all the demos and PSN games are stored on it as well. Currently there are already over 100 game demos available for download, and 40 PSN games... that's over 100GB in demos and PSN games alone.
The good news is that hard drives are so inexpensive... ¢20 per GB or ¢40 per GB for 2.5" laptop HDD 👍
