Stupid GT5 in game censorship word list

First of all, hello everybody, hola a todo el mundo. I'm new into this forum, registered after loads of months reading as "anonym".

Sticking to the topic... In my GT is censored the word "hora". It's the Spanish for "hour". I was just filling in the box where it says "your timetable habits" (timetable=horario), and I happened to write the same word, "horario", and got a "****rio".

Does "hora" mean anything in Dutch? :P

Not sure about Dutch, but I am pretty sure "hora" means french kissing monkeys on the planet Mars, PD don't want to offend people from Mars. 👍

Taking into account that NASA is announcing some discovery about extraterrestrial life Dec 2nd, that makes a lot of sense! Of course the guys at PD are great, they have every detail in the game!! Past, present and future! (lol)

IF that is their logic, there should never be voice chat in the game. So what DO they have in place to censor me from swearing online via voice chat???

NOTHING

Exactly.

But it's not just swears that make it inappropriate for little ones, its the jerks with the attitudes. These assholes don't need anything but a mic in order for the game to be rated "mature" let alone a reason to bully some little kids, who they may not know are little kids because they aren't talking, and really take things too far.

Yea mute this, mute that, my point is that the text filters serve no effective purpose whatsoever, since the real offensive meanings are in the attitude of the person(duh), and are quite obviously more apparent in voice chat. You can't censor attitudes, only deny people access to your game. It just doesn't work in any other form than a more strict rating.
Turn the filter OFF!

Just put a space between every letter of the word your trying to write it works but we shouldn't have to do it for "magic" or "engine" that's insane!!.

This is rediculous, to "protect" little kids?! I don't think kids need protection these days, they usually swear more than we do, espectially in FPS games.

They got you fooled man.

It is not there is protect kids, it is there to protect THEM, the developer/publisher, so that they don't get sued when someone got offend when they were ask "what size is your engine?" 👍

Seriously though. There's a disclaimer when signing up to PSN, and when starting GT5 for the first time. It says they're not responsible for what happens online and you're forced to agree with it if you want to play, so they're covered... why censor anything? People swear over the mic all the time, they might as well do it via text as well.

This is why I've deduced it to a simple case of discrimination of people that don't use voice chat.

Class action anyone? <--- I am joking don't ban.

I think I know why they censored magic; it's a term for Ecstasy, apparently common in Northern England. I still don't agree with it. I guess they removed all drug references, like LSD, even though they use the abbreviation in the GT tuning shop.

There's really alot though that makes no sense about this.

How is Tsukuba worth censoring in any way?

And why did they have to have a universal chat filter? Why can't they have it based on your country?

why cant we mod it like on pc and just empty the file or delete the reference to it :D

but seriously, most games have options to turn it off, even if they are "hidden" (read: sub menu of options where some people are too dumb to look apparently)

I may be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure the censoring is done by Sony, not PD. Try going into a 'text chat' on the XMB with someone from your friends list and typing those words, I'm pretty sure they're censored there too from memory. I specifically remember wondering why engine was censored.

They all do it. If you say offensive things or type offensive things in many online games you can get warned/banned even though they all have disclaimers saying that online you can encounter pretty much anything. It's better for them not to take the risk and cover all of their bases rather than not doing it and having to get sued to find out that they have to do it anyways.

My problem is that when I type one word that gets censored then it censors the whole message 👎

Not sure who came up with the awesome coding of censoring the chat in GT5, but someone should give him an award. If SONY or PD is reading this, I would like to find out what is your logic, if there is any. Also I would like to find out what you guys are doing to censor voice chat since that is really a much bigger problem than censoring words like "engine" in a game about cars and racing. :dunce:

Please add what you find.

Censored words:
  • engine - green initiative? LOL
  • Tsukuba - yeah, the circuit
  • LSD - as in Limited Slip Differential
  • lulz - means dick in Dutch...
  • dirt - as in dirt tires
  • pitting - as in pitting in
  • ss - any word containing "ss", as in Camero ss = censored
  • magic - sorry Disney
  • nicht starten ("don't start" in German) - nicht means gay men in Dutch...
  • hora ("hour" in Spanish) - They are only allowed to live in minutes
  • junkies - as in speed junkies
  • joint, puff, roll

Dirt means cheap, crappy marijuana here. I'd assume that's why it's censored. A ridiculously overcensored drug reference.

LSD is obvious. Junkies is a drug user in the US. Could SS be censored because of the Nazi connotations? Has anyone seen if Nazi is censored?

Pitting is a sexual act, but according to Urban Dictionary very few people even know that (I didn't until I looked it up). Honestly, ever single word is a sexual act of some sort, so I'm not sure how that gets it banned.

Engine I don't have a clue. Tsukuba either. Joint/puff/roll could all be used in reference to marijuana use, but so could a lot of other things. Is roach censored? Blunt? All common words with other meanings. English has thousands of these words.

My Camaro SS 's LSD hasn't been set up properly so i can't be lapping around Tsukuba all that well. Because the engine is overtuned i keep kicking up dirt in the corners, i almost roll over all the time as if it was magic. For the lulz i tried pitting but it didn't let me, i guess speed junkies aren't welcome on a racetrack?

The word "prohibited" is prohibited, amongst other nonsensical things. Glad I don't spend a lot of time online, nor will I until there's some sort of incentive to do so.

You aren't mistaken at all. This is the work of Sony over the whole of the PSN, not PD. I had that exact same moment as you, talking to a friend in the XMB text chat and being really confused over it filtering the word "engine."
