I was kidding, I know I was wrong and you guys were right.

No has gotten a Nissan Silvia Q's (S13) '91 that Car-less did well with last season. So far only one front wheel drive has been bought.

The car I started last season with is nowhere near as good as the one everyone is going for this time around. The Q's is ranked 565 and is about 5 seconds per lap slower than the more expensive K's which I'd rank 395.

With so many choosing to drive for Nissan and Mazda, poor Mitsubishi were almost forced to pull out of this years championship - until they found me. Perhaps foolishly I agreed to drive an FTO for them. It is wrong wheel drive, but they have promised me a 4WD Lancer Evo mid season if I can score them enough points.

Test Track​

Welcome to the Sunday Cup Racing League Invitational. I'm glad you all made it here with your cars. With this second season getting underway, here is what we have in store for you for the next week. We have secured a test track with an official Seiko Timer to record each entrants times. We have three events on the test track and all results will be posted so everyone in the league can see the results. This should give you and your competitors an idea of what each vehicle is capable of and possible needs that need to be addressed in the future. The league will provide work areas in the pits at each track and access to water for washing your vehicles. You have all come up with the entry fees and proven that you can travel to each event and have made your hotel reservations in advance. Your entry fees also covers Sports Medium (S2) tire supply and replacement. Vehicle transport to each event will be covered by the league either by rail, transporter or by ship. We also have a list of parts suppliers in each area and car dealers if you need them. The league has plenty of pre-made 1kg/5kg/10kg/50kg/100kg ballast weights for the entire season. So feel free to use them, especially those of you with front wheel drives.

So get out there and make good use of the test track, as this is the only time you will see it this season. Its going to be a busy week, but next week it will be even busier as the season begins with the First Circuit.

Well, I like the budget I got.

Being a rich man competing in a poor man's sport, I decided to throw my money around and do some testing. I'm considering 2 different cars, a red 1986 Mazda RX-7, and a blue 1991 Nissan Silvia for my track car. I bought them both and went through them mechanically to ensure reliability, modded them to my budget's limit, and took them out to the track. Because of the higher cost of the Nissan (#&^$ing drifters), it only got an oil change ($50, I only use synthetic) and a new, lighter flywheel ($500), for a final cost of $7,686. Because the Mazda is cheaper to start, I paid the local speed shop to tear out the interior ($1,100) and install a lighter flywheel ($550), as well as change the oil ($50), for a final price of $7,614.

I love driving the Mazda. It's got soul, handles well, and looks good to boot. But it lost every single timed comparison between the two. The quarter mile, 1000M, top speed, and even lapping around Deep Forest Raceway, the Nissan easily trounced the RX.

Now I'm in a predicament - the Nissan is faster to begin with, cheaper to tune, and has a better aftermarket with more potential. I hate driving it, everyone has one, and as delivered by GT4 it's ugly. the RX-7 is slower, but much nicer to drive and less ubiquitous. Logic says Silvia, passion cries for the RX. What am I to do?

I must echo the sentiment of my colleague: go with your heart. You have a "connection" with the RX-7 that is far more valuable than any time trial can reflect.

That's the reason I chose the '89 MX-5. It's my favorite starter car, and I really REALLY like driving it.

1st Circuit​

Welcome to the 1st Circuit and the opening of the Sunday Cup. It looks like an exciting grid for this second season. The 1st Circuit is centered around tracks that are less then 1 mile in length. As you can see there is some travel involved and a variety of courses, four in all. Your cars are still pretty much stock but this is where things start to change. Trophies will be awarded for each race (but not graphically). These awards will be noted on the league roster as well as with your points scored.

So gentlemen to your cars and Start your Engines! Let the Sunday Cup begin!
