I'm just wandering how eveyone feels about tattoos. Do you like them or not? (Give your personal reason for whether you like or dislike them).
Also, who here has / plans to get tattoos?

I personally love tattoos because they are a fantastic artform (if done well) and it is a way to express yourself. Plus I just love the look of them.
I have two tattoos at the moment, and am booked in for two more on the 22nd.
I love the traditional style of tattoos, especially skulls. I plan to sleeve both of my arms - the left will be mainly skulls and black ink, and my right will be Japanese themed.
I also plan to get the Gran Turismo logo at some point to show my loyalty to the game.

Please share your opinions, I'd love to get opinions from as many people as possible.

On a totally un-related note, has anyone got an original, fully working battery for the PSP 1000 that they could send to me for free? :D

I don't mind tattoos if done tastefully.

I plan on getting one eventually, I want my family crest on my right arm and possibly Mjöllnir on my left. Both symbols have meaning to me so I don't think I would even end up hating them. I know to many people though that have gotten tattoos of random things and ended up hating them, which is why I keep putting it off. I figured if in a couple years I still want the tattoo then I probably won't end up hating it.

I'm actually seriously considering getting tattoos for the first time in my life. The names of my two boys.

I have two tattoos, one on my left shoulder blade and another on my right arm. Both are a tribal style which are going to blended with a Japanese style (once I have the money to finish them).

I don't like tattoos on the face, hands or neck. I would never have any lower than the elbow as employers sometimes frown upon them. I've just kept it sensible to be honest, the one on my shoulder blade actually has meaning (to me) and never gets seen, except by the girlfriend and some people at the swimming pool. The one on my arm finishes about 2 1/2 inches above my elbow so generally doesn't get seen very often.

Some people have them done for an attention (which is fair enough, each to there own) and some have them for a particular memory or belief.

I don't mind them, but wouldn't have one done myself.

Please don't get the GT logo done. At some point in your life (probably at a dinner party), you'll find yourself having to explain what it is. And I guarantee there will be an awkward silence.

I have one at the moment, and I plan for more when I am fiscally stable.

I think they can look pretty good if they're tasteful or have meaning to them, just like any other form of art really.

And that's the problem.

Tattoos are fine in and of themselves, but too often they are done without regard for quality or meaning. Also, originality is very rare. If I wanted a permanent marking engraved into my body, I'd want it to be something I knew would hold meaning forever, and also something I knew I wouldn't see 500 other bad versions of.

I really like the idea of getting a tattoo, but I'm yet to find anything that even comes close to what I want.

The search and experimenting with designs shall continue untill then.

Most tattoo places can give you a quote if you take a sketch of it with you and a rough idea of size and location.

My wife has one, and I've debated getting one done, but haven't settled on the idea I want. Its original, and has meaning to me and can be expanded as I feel it needs to be over the years.

Personally, the "Sleeve" idea is, IMHO, the silliest idea I've seen. An ornate small tattoo can be covered up in 10 years. A sleeve is a permanent display for the rest of your life. Job interviews, company outings, family get-togethers, and a whole host of events where you have no choice but to wear long sleeve shirts.

Tattoos Rock. i am currently sporting this

i LOVE it. it didnt hurt at all but i can understand why peopel would think they do. its all a matter of opinion. it stung a little when i got down onto her knee.

i love tattoos! many more to come!

Don't like 'em. Not even a little.

I would never consider getting a tatoo, and I don't understand why people do it. You want skulls on your arm? How about buying a shirt with skulls on the sleeve?

There more functional ways to express yourself.

Im planning on getting the japanese symbols for love wealth and health on my right arm and v8 on the opposite arm just need to convince my mum and find out how much it will be.

I wish I could fast forward 50 years to see you with this tattoo as an old man.

The cost isn't really an issue (most the time), unless quote means them touching up the design.

Well custom designs are almost always at an extortionate premium over the designs they keep logged in the books.

Any bigger than say, a coaster, and you can expect upwards of £400 in many places. Of course as with most things, some places will do it a lot cheaper.
And of course, they may not be able to do the design. Going in for a quote is also finding out if they can physically do it. Less experienced artists might not risk it going badly wrong.

If you're struggling to find something similar to what you're after, try here.

I'd never consider one. First of all there is a medical aspect. Nobody knows if tatoos increase the risk of getting carcinoma ( like melanoma ). There is a debate between dermatologists, but not many studies so far. Especially coloured tatoos might be a risk, since studios sometimes use endurable colours also used in car paint etc - often highly toxic.

Second aspect is that I don't really like that kind of body art. It might be somewhat attractive on certain people at a certain age, but let me tell you something : I worked as a nurse ( I'm no nurse, so I only helped them; it's part of med school ) and washing 80 year old people with tatoos makes them look kinda ridiculous. Then again that's maybe just my opinion / problem.
I might carefully add, that tatoos seem to be a little more popular among people in a part of the society I'm not part of. That might have changed over the last 10 years, but I - for example - still don't see many students with tatoos and I think that has a reason. Same goes with piercings, but maybe I'm just too conservative here.

Those who like tatoos should get one, but as many other before I'd strongly recommend chosing both the motive and the part of your body carefully, otherwise you might regret getting a tattoo in a few years.

I love tattoos. They been apart of my life since I was a child. Both of my parents have a lot of tattoos. I remember going with them to Gastonia, NC so they could get tattoos by Mike Cole. When I was 5 my dad started his own tattoo shop in Gainesville, GA called Ink City. I was always there and I learned alot. Since that shop he's moved several times, changed names twice, and moved to another state still running his shop. during my teen years I was there every weekend working. I wasn't tattooing then but I talked to customers, drew up what they wanted, got them a price, and then I'd make a stencil for whoever was going to tattoo them.

Recently though I started tattooing, I actually just came up on my one year anniversary of being in Florida and tattooing.

As far as the tattoos I now have, I'm really happy with them. My dad made we wait till last year to get my first, and he did it. Since that first one, I've done two myself, and now I'm working on a sleeve. I should have more done by now but I had to cancel my last two appointments. Here's some pics of it...

I am 99% positive ill still love it. not one day goes by where i look down at it and think to myself this is STILL as kick ass as it was the day i got it.

that and it gets awesome comments from everyone who sees it. they love it, and some people even know who she is.

btw its Janette from Vampires the Masquerade a lovely PC title from back in the day.

I don't personally like tattoos and will not be getting any. I don't mind other people having them of course, but I would find it off putting if my girlfriend had one.

I have tattoos. My first and my third are being removed by laser. The first bled out and looked silly, I had the choice of having it redone but I opted to have it removed with the other I'm having taken off at present. That one is being removed because it was done in haste with a name in it...young, married to totally the wrong person and utterly pigheaded!

So, I would echo the thought of having a tattoo done when you're 100% sure it's the one you want and it holds meaning as getting them off again takes months/years, is very expensive and 🤬 painful!!

My second tattoo is a small tribal design at the top of my left arm. My fourth is on the top of my back and was in the "considering phase" for around 4 years before I actually had it done...behold:

I'm currently in the considering phase for another, which will be a star based design and be either on my foot or my wrist if I can find somewhere which will tattoo in colour and not black.

That's the plan. I want an indigo stars design on my wrist or if I can't find a tattooist who will tattoo in indigo only, then a black stars design on my foot :)

The stars themselves will represent something personal.

Indigo stars like the one's Famine sees when you hit him in the head with a pot? :dopey:
