The 20 tracks issue is really bugging me

Just got home from work and saw all the news. I'd probably be bummed about the release date if that were the only news, but I don't care because my jaw is ON THE FLOOR over the 20 tracks announcement! My mind is completely blown. Could they really cut the Gran Turismo world in half, from 51 to twenty-something tracks?

It will be hard to get excited about GT5 now, seeing as how it's roughly half the size of GT4, and by the time it releases I will have played hundreds of hours of Forza 3 and its hundred tracks. It feels like I'm not going to get as much for my money as I have with every other racing game I've picked up over the last few years. Even though Kaz himself has said it and it's been spotted on their website, it's still hard to believe something so crazy.

So do most people believe the 20 track news or not? I really don't know what to think of it.

Boy o boy, the japanese language is too vague to properly translate to english it seemes. Polyphony need clarify this pronto...

This thread should be studied by psychoanalysts, for research purposes into the Kübler-Ross model.

1: Denial (this is were we are now )

2: Anger

3: Bargaining ( Peeeeeease Kaz give us moar tracks )

4: Depression :(

and finally......

5: Acceptance :)

No. I'm patient. I'm a realist. 20 tracks with 70 variations is idiotic. Add a chicane just to call it as 'another track'? ...THINK THINK THINK! GT4 has more than 50! ...Count the tracks inside GT5P's ending credits, there's more than 25!

That's it. I'm done with this thread.

I have the same idea, locations might just mean photo locations. on the other side, doesn't a rally have ca. 20 stages, therefore accounting for 20 tracks? futhermore, it only specify 20+ tracks, so the remaining 20-25 "locations" only have to contain 50-60 location

EDIT: I think it's time to make a revisit to the master track list, and make some calculations :D

What is there to clarify? its done and dusted?

20 tracks with 70 variations. thats it.

If the statement were cristal clear then we wouldn't be having this discussion, would we? Different people state different thing. Some say 20 locations, 70 tracks. Other people say it's the other way around. And we don't know what PD constitute what a track is and what entitles a variation for it to be a new track... There's too much personal preference!

OMG, seriously you guys. This level of denial is not healthy. And honestly it's a little bit disturbing to witness.

This news has now been confirmed THREE TIMES.

The leak said 20+ courses with a total of 60+ variations ( which means somewhere between 61 and 69 ), then it was confirmed by KY in an interview. And now it has been confirmed yet again here at TGS.

It now says 20+ courses with a total of 70 variations ( not even "more than 70" or "70+", just "70" this time )

This is not speculation any longer this is totally FACT.

Now if later on down the road they decide to change their minds, then MAYBE.....MAYBE, that could happen. But there's no indications of that

As it stands right now, it is their intention, that they have shared with the world on several occasions, that there will be 20+ courses/locations that add up to 70 variations/tracks/ribbons in the final retail version of GT 5.

ok i thought they meant 20 locations not 20 tracks. So i would interpret that 20 locations equals 20 countries. Gt5 will have snow and dirt tracks those alone would take up 4 or 5 tracks.

My view at this Kazunori's statement:
We'll have 20 real tracks and 70 GT tracks and variations like Trial Mountain, Complex String etc.
It makes sense if we remember that Amar spoke total of 8 dozen tracks and variations.

Yeah, well since everyone are reporting different numbers of tracks/variations/locations, it's mind boggling how such information can get misinterpreted this quickly...

Except he didn't say anything like that. You just made all that up.

It's looking that way :(

Some of those 7 are also likely to be rally circuits.

19, if you include the variations (reverse, Suzuka East, West, Fuji GT, etc.). I doubt 7 more circuits and their variations could pump GT5's track count up to 70 as well.

so 20 tracks with 70 variations total, his would mean there are 50 tracks, when you count all the variations as a single track. So there are 2,5 variations per track, seems to be legit.

I dont want to believe it, but as far as we know its most likely going to be that way.

Seeing as it says "20 locations and 70 tracks", I'm assuming "locations" refers to the backgrounds on the main menu like in Prologue? 💡

20+ tracks with 70 variations could mean 69 tracks and 1 of those has a variation, LOL! (And no, the variation is NOT the missionary position!)

I haven't dared interpret the press reports (or even read them!), but if GT were to ship with 20 circuits, each done 3 different ways, it would be the biggest joke in gaming history. GT is a driving simulator, hence the emphasis on driving.

Otherwise, Kaz would have called it Gran Turismo: The Real Toy Car Collection

;)
