Mark this day in your diary, ladies and gentlemen. January 17th, 2012: the beginning of the end of Williams.

Bah - you may as well pick the day they lost Rothmans sponsorship.

Senna has been reported as bringing fourteen million Euros to the team. They're already getting about forty from Maldonado and PDVSA, so they don't really need the extra income. Nevertheless, they chose to take it over someone like Adrian Sutil or Jaime Alguersuari - and comapred to Senna, what they lack in sponsorship, they more than make up for in actual talent.

I can't wait until you have to eat your words.

PS Do you have an actual source?

Yes! Great news, I wish him luck and a good car to show his worth. Funny how 2012 is so crucial for a good number of drivers, a "last chance year". I'm thinking about Massa aswell.

Can't help to feel for Barrichelo, a driver I always admired, but I really think that with so much new talent waiting at the gates it was time for him to move on. In fact I think the same about a few others, notably mr. MSC

Awesome. I'm delighted that Bruno Senna signed with Williams. However, I feel bad for Rubens at the same time.

Well that's almost certainly that for Rubinho. I doubt he'll drop down to HRT, especially as they said they want a young driver to partner the more experienced de la Rosa.

Unless he's willing to go to the probably-Vitaly-Petrov-bound-seat-if-it's-available drive at Caterham.

They were about as on the pace as Williams last year anyway... [/Hyperbole]

Good day for Bruno Senna. I think this drive will be "make it or brake it" kind of deal in world of F1 racing. He absolutely must defeat Maldonaldo (and by bigger margin then he did during 2008 GP2 season) to still be considered as "relatively young and promising" driver.

It also means the end of the road for Rubinho in F1. I think it was still one year too late but he can be an interesting addition to Le Mans drivers line up if he chooses to consider this form of racing as his "next step".

I'm bit worried about Sutil's future but if you don't know how to act after drinking alcohol (which is a slight understatement considering attacking high executive from another team with broken glass) maybe corporate world of F1 racing is not for you.

Last but not least. Petrov's situation. Quite a fall down on "gossip ladder" from being a driver for Ferrari to being a test driver at Caterham.

I'm happy for Senna, although sad it came at the expense of Barrichello. I hope that the thousands of testing kms can improve Senna's consistency.

Sad as well to see Rubinho go like this. But if he really follows this LeMans path I would be very happy. LeMans doesnt get a lot of coverage here in Brazil but interest is rising and it would be a nice way to make it more popular. Also, this year Interlagos will receive a race of the new World Endurance Championship.

Multiple sources in England, Germany and Brazil are claiming that Vitaly Petrov will indeed repalce Jarno Trulli at Caterham, with a decision expected some time this week. This is certainly consistent with all of the rumours to date.

A possible step backwards for him?

Then again, not many drives elsewhere. So it's a case of beggers can't be choosers".

Read: he brought the most money to the team, even if Senna thnks otherwise.

You just mad

Williams chief operations engineer Mark Gillan had this to say: "From our side we had an extensive driver evaluation programme with a handful of drivers, and we made the final decision based on raw pace, consistency, tyre management, technical feedback and mental capacity - and most importantly the potential impact they would have on the team," he said. "I think in all those areas it was very clear that Bruno has not had a lot of experience in single seater racing, but has consistently shown improvement and real talent."

When was the last time someone said "Yes. We took him for his money."?

I'm not saying money was the only factor in signing Senna, but it was probably the deciding factor.

...It was because of the money.

as someone who grew up from about age 10 with the rubens/schumi pairing at ferrari, this is a pretty sad day T_T

All my memories from formula 1 include Rubens. It will be very odd watching a race without him the same way it was odd when Schummy retired.
