New tweet from Barichello. He's trying so hard to find a ride, his family is at the Lakers game. What a good chap.

^You're right, its not. Why not start a GP2 thread? What on earth does it have to do with F1?

Because it opens up an interesting avenue for discussion - where is Formula 1 going to start finding talent?

Ever since 2010, there has been a power vaccuum that GP2 has never really recovered from. Six drivers were promoted in 2010, and then two in 2011 and two in 2012 (possibly three, if van der Garde gets the second HRT seat). Looking at the half-formed GP2 grid, there is nobody that really leaps out as a highly-rated prospect. Many of them are old hands, in their second or third season (or fifth, in the case of Valsecchi), and while there are a few promising rookies, GP2 is usually a two-year programme these days. Could we perhaps be seeing a repeat of the 2010 season, with a somewhat less-than-competitive front end to the GP2 grid? And if so, where will Formula 1 find its new talent?

In FR 3.5, in DTM, in LMP, in GTE, in F2...... GP2 is not the be-all-and-end-all of junior talent for F1 and hence is not really on topic at all.

There is no suggestion that Johnny Cecotto Jr is getting an F1 seat in 2012..so bringing that up is entirely off topic and completely and utterly irrelevant. Go start a GP2 thread if you wish to discuss it.

I don't understand your obsession with trying to shoe-horn every little piece of information, news or rumour into one almighty thread. Are you afraid of the "new thread" button or something? Let this thread die if it needs to, now there is only one seat left its only natural its going to lose discussion. No need to try and keep it going with completely off topic discussion.

GP2 deserves it own thread for discussion and if not GP2 alone, at least a "junior formula" thread or something. But its unnecessary to bring that discussion into this thread as its not at all related, especially now all but 1 of the seats have already been settled.

It is still considered to be the best category for young talent. Ever since its creation, GP2 has produced more Formula 1 drivers than any other feeder series. In fact, it's probbly produced more Formula 1 drivers than all of the other feeder series combined.

That may be, but it isn't the only place for F1 talent and even if it was, its still off topic because you are talking about drivers who aren't even linked with F1 seats, you are plain talking about GP2-only driver movements. This has nothing to do with F1.
Explain to me what Cecotto moving to Barwa Addax has to do with a 2012 F1 transfer discussion.

Maybe instead of getting a whole field of rookies for 2013, they'll hold on to all of the drivers they have. Wishful thinking...

You know what? Regardless of it's off topicness, you could have just ignored it... Instead you've given PM a lecture twice. Kinda pointless waste of time if you ask me. Maybe you just had issues with your English teacher, so you are taking revenge on PM?

There's a reason he didn't ignore it.
Look, it goes like this. prisonerponkeys/Interludes has always and will continue to pick apart every post in this thread/forum and attack anything that is remotely in doubt, innaccurate, or off topic, on top of providing his own opinion on the matter.
No detail in any post will escape his scrutiny or a return comment, and everybody on the GTPlanet forum hates him and are sick of his presence here, and would like to have an F1 forum where he is not permitted.

So don't flare up, Ardius isn't the bad guy, every day is a new day, and we just ignore most of pm's return volley of comments, everyone lives.

This personal grudge business is getting stupid and annoying. If you have a problem with a particular member, then take it somewhere else.

And I don't think "everyone" at GTP hates PM. Hate is a very strong word. Personally I have nothing against him.

This.

That's quite a wild and unfair thing to say. Like astrodude, I have nothing against him. I agree with some of his posts, disagree with others as I'm sure he does with mine and yours. It's all about how well you can present and articulate your argument.

Well all he has to do really is not make every 3rd post in this thread his.
Not hard. I think people would like to be able to talk about F1 a bit without their post getting screened by him first.

For the overall positive contribution that PM delivers to the F1 section of this forum, I think we can forgive the occasional (or perhaps frequent) nitpicky post. The petty squabbles do get a little out of hand at times but what do you expect, this is the internet!

Perhaps we should all settle down a bit before we all get this thread closed?

Realistically, yes, PM/Interludes does analyze everything. To some extent, I welcome that. If anything, it keeps me sharper. But is that really something to attack him over? Not as such, no.

The past 30 pages or so of arguing over Senna and Petrov have set up this sort of atmosphere. And we're all guilty. Since there is very little actual news, we tend to fill this thread up with arguments about things which are more or less irrelevant.

So lets all just try to start fresh, yeah? Forget the past 30 or 40 pages, and work on just posting actual news which pertains to the the Thread topic.

Hawkeye has a good point this thread has been going for a while it would be stupid for it to go down now because of some bicker two users have. Ardius if you have an issue with Prisoner then you should just pm him like any veteran user would, not try and have a crowd.

Not getting involved in a personal debate, what I'll say is about gtplanet's thread policy, the way I see it as a normal user. A thread should reveal in its title what its content is about.

I hardly visit the Kaz's tweets thread anymore because 99% of topics there aren't about his tweets. (following him on twitter is more clever anyway :D ).

So, this thread is for 2012 Formula 1 driver transfer discussion and speculation. It's supposed to die, eventually, and I still come here to know about what will happen with the HRT seat.

A forum is as better as its #1 page of threads is clear and informative about what's being written and discussed. Good "titleing" of threads is better than big threads where new and interesting information gets lost.

My view, or "two cents" as you guys in "English-speaking-land" say.

Totally agree with this. I mean the British F3 Euro Series has provided more future F1 talent who have gone on to become recognisable names.

Jackie Stewart, Jim Clark , Emerson Fittipalldi, Mika Hakkinen, Johnny Herbert, JJ Lehto, Takuma Sato, The Senna's (Bruno and Ayrton), The Piquet's (Nelson Snr and Nelson Jnr.), Rubens Barrichello and recently Jamie Alguersuari and Daniel Ricciardo have all been British F3 Champions.

And in 1991 a young Scottish driver came runner up to Rubens. His name was David Coulthard. And in the 1996 season a Columbian driver won 3 races and got 4 fast laps. His name was Juan Pablo Montoya. And on April 27 1997 an Australian driver won his one and only race. Though he did get 3 pole positions and 1 fast lap. Guess who? Narain Karthikeyan also competed though he did not win, get any fast laps or poles in the 1998 season. And in the 1999 season a young Brit won three races. Whatever happened to Jenson Button?

I'll just take your advice and ignore your posts then. Maybe you should ignore my posts?

Excuse me for finding it annoying for people to try and direct a thread off topic. This is not a personal vendetta against Interludes/whatever his name is. This applies to anyone.

Funnily enough there have been times where I have agreed with him and I can very easily enjoy a debate with him.
I felt something needs to be said in this thread to make the point - I didn't want to see this thread de-railed into a GP2 discussion.

Now - speaking of GP2 drivers. Its pretty clear that Giedo Van Der Garde is considered to have already got the seat at HRT with a big pile of money.

Moving on....

I'm still struggling to see where Barrichello will go. DTM?

That is where loads of drivers have gone. I think of Hakkinen, Coulthard, Ralf Schumacher and Fentzen to name just four. But for me I don't see him and DTM going together. What about ChampCar or IndyCar?

I think it's only coincedence that a lot of divers have went to the DTM recently. Hakkinen and Coulthard both had strong links to Mercedes, and the other 2 are German, so it's an obvious choice for them.

Barrichello always struck me as a driver who would be an excellent endurance sports car driver.

I agree with you up to the part about everyone hating him. He may be arrogant, and annoying, but he's not done anything that makes him deserve to be hated by everyone. This is coming from someone who was banned by PM when he was a moderator. His moderating was questionable, but I admit that I was being an idiot at the time and deserved some punishment.

If we spend more time in this thread criticizing prisonermonkeys, then the moderators will take action, because posts like this, are off topic as well.

Likewise.

Ignore me if you wish. It's not my fault that you make a pointless post criticizing someone for going off topic. When the shoe is on the other foot, you obviously don't like it.

Anyway, with regards to comments made about this thread's remaining lifespan. It will probably remain relevant up until the second HRT driver is announced. I have no ego trip about creating a big thread. It will die when there is nothing left to be discussed. As a matter of fact, the reason I created this thread in the first place was due to the fact that in the weeks leading up to the thread creation, speculation was spilling into pretty much every F1 thread. 'This was a way to tidy up the forum and make everything easy to find. It worked.

Is PM the same person as Interludes? :odd:

Yes, courtesy of a name change.

Fortunately he kept his avatar and profile data and so on so the transition was smooth enough.

Any update on HRT confirming signing that Dutchman?

New tweet from Petrov, basically saying announcement soon, but due to the exclamation marks used, he sounds excited, which is not something you usually are if you're going to be a 3rd driver?...

Well, if he's joining Caterham, we'll probably know it in four days. Their car gets launched on the 26th, and since it's got a bit of a media program attached to it - like appearing on the cover of F1 Racing as well as images being sent out to all the media outlets - I can't imagine that they would include Trulli in it and then drop him within a week so that Petrov can test. So perhaps Petrov's signing will be announced at the same time as the unveiling of the CT01.
