The first video: That's what the monster looks like? Not very original, imo.
2nd video: Bit blurry. Little guys hard to make out.

But that's the whole movie. The entire thing is that 'blurry.' Remember, 'hand held camera action only.'

Blair Witch Revisited.

Except that Blair Witch was better. I just saw Cloverfeld, and I don't think there's enough for-letter words to describe how god-awflly crap it was.

What did you hate about it? Most say the characters. "Yuppie doucebags who you hope die" has been mentioned more than once.

I know it's blurry. But the cell phone camera didn't exactly do a decent job. But I'm starting to see more reviews stating the big guy is the only thing worth seeing it for, and that you don't really see him that often.

Bust of the year?

Let's see ...
- The fact that the characters - and most of the population of New York City - demonstrating the same level of intellect as my dog.
- That the monster spends most of its time running around in circles chasing said characters that it has somehow singled out from the population of 12 million.
- The cameraman apparently has Parkinson's disease and is going through withdrawal symptoms; I came out of the cinema feeling physically ill.
- The sheer lack of a plot.
- The unsatisfying ending.
- The name JJ Abrams attached to production.
- More abysmal characterwork.
- The hype.
- And stupid Lost tie-ins.
Need I go on? Cloverfield wasn't just the worst movie I've seen in the past year, it was probably the worst movie I've seen. Ever.

What you just listed is what I was expecting.

Seriously, after watching the 'subway attack' scene, and how stupid the characters were, I know I'll never watch this movie even though I'm a huge monster movie fan.

Getting the toy version of the monster for my kids collection is looking very, very slim.

That bad? Dang.

Yeah. Cloverfield wasn't just the worst monster/disaster film I've ever see, but probably the worst film I've ever seen. I walked in with low expectations and the film consistently failed to achieve them. It's about as fun as an abusive relationship: it might have its good moments, but there's always a painful moment just around the corner for you and the most satisfying part is when you finally walk away from it.

I expected no less as it has the name JJ Abrams in the credits. The man never should have been allowed near a typewriter.

Seeing as the film was rubbish how was the Star Trek XI teaser trailer that was attached to it?

Thats exactly what I was expecting and thats why I am not getting sucked into this hype. I have a feeling this is going to be an overhyped terrible movie just like the Blair Witch project.

Was it worse than Dragon Wars? That movie was horrible!! Luckily I only rented it.

Out of curiosity, what did you think of Transformers?

Just trying to see how our opinions fall in line on movies.

But as I have seen reviews go both ways I am still expecting to go see this.

I generally like Transformers - I thought it was one of Michael Bay's better films - but I didn't like the script that much. Most of the characters spent the film running around and screaming and while that has its place when alien robots are duking it out downtown, it got a little annoying.

As I believe my friend and I came up with, "It is the best Michael Bay film, for what that's worth," it seems we may have similar tastes.

:nervous: And I was hoping we would disagree, just so I could like this. Oh well, I will more than likely be inebriated

Thats what I was wondering, seems kinda stupid.

Even though I now know the movie is a disaster, I still want to see it for the heck of it. It'll cost me $8.50. Should I keep my $8.50?

Is a big budget Sci-Fi channel movie worth spending $8.50 on?

Cloverfield is an original Sci-Fi channel movie with a bigger budget.

This is a rental

I'm not very dissappointed because I wasn't expecting much

+ Some scenes are tense and can leave you breathless
+ When there is action it is tense

- The handheld camera trick gets annoying after a while
- Characters are unbelieveably DUMB and defy common sense and logic
- The CG animation isn't the best
- The monster designs are average at best
- The ending earned a chorus of well deserved BOOS in my theater
- The plot was thinner then a noodle
- It's painfully obvious throughout the movie the small $30 million budget hindered the movie
- Every single Godzilla movie I've seen (Including Godzilla with Mathew Broderick) was more entertaining

Overall: This movie was, as I expected, a high budget Sci-Fi channel movie. Therefore I wasn't too surprised at what I saw. I happen to half-way like cheap Sci-Fi Channel movies so I'll be nice with my rating

Two out of four stars

RENT THIS

I saw it tonight and although it was an enjoyable movie I would still rate it as a big fat "meh" the story told is very good and real, however there is no explanation of any sort which would be nice for some closure.

what the hell is this thing and why is it attacking the city...

I saw Cloverfield last night and I thought it was alot better then everyone's saying it is: Bad. I'm not saying it was great but it wasn't bad. Only bad thing about it is the ending.

+1

Agreed on every plane. I wish that they'd at least make something out of it in the end. At least some sort of closure. Hopefully they'll release a 2nd one, or put something in the special features of the DVD...if they make one. :/

Given that I pretty much know the ending (after stumbling upon it by mistake on the interwebz), I can almost guarantee that you'll see a sequel. My guess is that it would be more a "regular" style of movie... That being said, it would be hard to pick just where exactly in the time line it would take place.

You want proof? Do Ya?

You mean all the Slusho! hints meant nothing? No answer to 'you can't just drink six?'

not so much as a "where did it officially come from" there's also not actually confirmation that the guy works at slusho, or any other reference to slusho besides a few shirts and a drink or two. Honestly the video about the oil rig being destroyed gives more way than the entire movie.

It was a good story, and the camera work certainly didn't hinder it being told as some said it would, but I need a sequel or at least some sort of explanation as to what where and why.
