Following on from last years thread I thought I would make another one so we can have a place for expectations and the live chat from the conferences so the individual console threads don't get cluttered and can be kept for news, ongoing discussion etc. Its only about a week to go and its going to be a big one!

I really want to see the PS4 fully revealed early on instead of having to wait 2 hours. More tech specs and questions answered about DRM, used games etc would be helpful. Hoping to see more gameplay of the announced PS4 titles and see what's happening with the new PS3 titles (beyond two souls, last of us, GT6).

Press Conferences
I may have gone slightly overboard on the headers!

I think its a pretty silly move of Nintendo seeing as the Wii U is doing terribly at the moment to not have a big full blown press conference. What kind of message does that send about their confidence in how long they are going to be around in the console business.

Would it kill them to talk about it and the 3DS for an hour?

Hopefully this time, Microsoft actually show if the Xbone can do anything game related.

I'll keep my eyes on the Sony/PS4 conference though. Also hoping for some more BF4 gameplay from EA.

Yeah I think Microsoft is going to hold off on the TV stuff this time given the fall out from the reveal. They need to make it all about the games.

I really want hard spec's to see which one is slightly more powerful on paper. It should be more meaningful this time because the architecture is the same.

The specs are already available. The PS4 is around 50% more powerful on paper.

I mean the detailed numbers, like Mhz, TFLOPS, FPU's etc etc

We do have a general overview but don't know much yet about the speed's especially with the GPU's.

I'm really hoping the big 3's representations at E3 are much better than their system reveals. Talk is cheap and there is currently too much talk floating around from the big 3. Thanks to the previous/recent console reveals, Forza 5 and GT6 unveals, the current state of game development and release......my enthusiasm for gaming is at an all-time low. But if history repeats itself (which I'm a firm believer in), E3 may end up being just more underwhelming events and presentations for me. In time we'll see.

The only thing not fully known are the CPUs (especially on the Xbox), but there shouldn't be a huge difference. Flops and memory are known as you can see.

CPU frequency is estimated on both of them and the Xbox One GPU performance is only calculated, not confirmed.

Also if you believe people like Saidur Ali the GPU performance isn't confirmed on PS4, he thinks it'll be better come the final specs.

Like I said, the CPUs are a bit unknown, although they both use the same base architecture and should be very similar. The GPU on the PS4 was confirmed officially as far as I know and I doubt it will be even quicker (wouldn't mind to be proven wrong of course).

Anyway, it's clear that the PS4 will be the more powerful console.

Most of those figures are estimated based on what's known about the Jaguar and are not 100% confirmed by Sony or MS. Remember these are customised chips so the true figures might be different.

Remember when the CELL was confirmed to have 8 cores and what we really ended up with was 7 and only 6 for games.

Damn you 'merican events and your evil time schedule

I'll be occupied by my finals during E3 but will of course stay up to watch everything.

Isn't there a pre show aswell with MGS?

Higher yield rates, it physically does have 8 (technically 9 - 1PPE + 8 SPE). 1 core is either broken or disabled (and maybe redundant).

Dependant on how highly customized those CPUs are and how stable the manufacturing processes are, we'll end up once again with "only" 7 cores.
I think I don't have to mention the reasons, it's obvious.

As Annoyed Gamer so elequently put it, they need to focus on the games, and Nintendo doesn't need a full blown presser to get to the games. This year it is about the consoles, the PS4 and the XBO, and Nintendo's marketing department knows that full well. So why run through the paces of having a pre-E3 press confrence where they are limited by that hour when they can easily spend three times as long talking about the games in small Nintendo Direct-style meetings with, yep, you guessed it, not the press, nor the investors who normally attend E3 anyways, but the gamers themselves.

Can't they do both? It not like Sony or MS will just be doing the hour and then disappearing for the next 3 days.

The difference in the amount of people tuning in to a press conference to the number of people who will actually be attending or following the whole 3 days is huge. Gamers always watch the press conferences and that's where you grab your audience. Lots of stuff mentioned in the following days is often forgotten but everyone remembers what's said at a presser.

If you would have said that a year later, then I might have believed you. However, seeing as this is the year for new consoles, would have hurt Nintendo any to try to bring E3 to the players?

I mentioned the other day that I was hearing rumors of Microsoft throwing around a considerable amount of money to have publishers only show games on the Xbox One during E3. Most people dismissed my admittedly flakey news as 'that's what always happens.'

I've talked to more people since then though and this isn't the usual jostling for publishers on stage that happens at E3. Microsoft is throwing BIG money around to reverse course on idea that they aren't a games console. The rumors are that PS4 versions of multiplats, by those who do take the money, won't be shown AT ALL. Not on stage and not on the show floor.

I don't feel bad for Sony because business is business. I'm sure they will find a way to have a decent show... or they will have to recover afterwards. That's not really my concern.

Now, there's no need to take my word on this if you don't want to. But do keep an eye on E3 next week. With them buying up everything in sight and now potentially cutting an open roundtable out(to assumedly talk one on one with friendly press) and word that finding multiplat games on the ps4 on the show floor will be much harder than anticipated.... just keep an eye on it. Maybe my sources are wrong. But I feel confident enough in this info to share it.

I'm not saying to jump to conclusions. I'm just saying it may be something to keep an eye on.

This report comes by way of ZhugeEX on the Koei Warriors boards.

For all the great software they produce I can't help but hate Microsoft, didn't they pay $50 million just so GTA IV content would be exclusive to the Xbox for a certain amount of time? Their philosophy is put the rivals in a position where they are really struggling and then reap their profits when they go out of business.

Those games will come for PS4 anyway and even run better on it with a high possibility, so it's actually not dramatic for me personally.

Damn MS again...

Speaking of E3 and predictions...

I see... fake Kinect gameplay... fake game footage... fake enthusiasm... and fake clapping.

Probably :D The whole novelty of motion control wore off for me very quickly, no matter how much it's developed I'll always prefer the good old joypad.

This doesnt surprise me at all.

Afterall Microsoft convinced EA to show nothing at the PS4 reveal. Microsoft can try to buy themselves out of the grave they dug on their own, burt I have a feeling most gamers will catch on after soon enough

MS survived the worst disaster for a console in my opinion. MS with all their questionable ideas/practices shown so far and negativity will be just fine in my opinion.
