The Hindustan Times is reporting that Vijay Mallya is out of Force India. The maniacal crowing sound that you can hear is Joe Saward.

Ferrari have announced their new Driver Academy candidates: Charles Leclerc and Giuliano Alesi. They'll work as development drivers for both Maranello and Haas while contesting GP3; Leclerc with ART Grand Prix and Alesi with Trident. Leclerc in particular looks pretty handy, despite a lacklustre (at times) European Formula 3 campaign last year. Most tellingly, he's be alongside Honda and McLaren protégés Nirei Fukuzumi and Nyck de Vries.

Can the other holders legally take an option on Mallya's 42.5%?
That goes all the way back to the Aston Martin deal that was rejected - it's very complex because of the way Mallya has structured his empire (and Basil Fawlty Joe Saward is the only one reporting on it), but Diageo apparently has some leverage in all of this because of Mallya's relationship with United Breweries.

The other stakeholders are Subrata Roy, who likewise owns 42.5% of the team through the Sahara group but is currently in an Indian prison; and Michel Mol, who owns the remaining 10% as he has since Spyker bought Midland.

And to think it wasn't that long ago that Grosjean was getting advice of his own! He has progressed a long way in a short amount of time, and this proves that once more for me.

Seeing the URL I was really hoping the driver being mentored would be Jean-Denis Deletraz

I totally agree about Grosjean though, took him 1.5 years to sort himself out but he does feel like a bit of a stalwart of the grid now, despite this only being his 5th year.

He feels like another Nico Hulkenberg to me in that I have seen him linked to Ferrari now he has moved to Haas. Though to be fair, once a driver reaches Formula 1 they are nearly always immediately connected to Ferrari in some rumour somewhere on the internet!

Only when they take a crappy car to a podium against a decent to crappy team mate. I mean look at the names, Perez, Hulkenberg, Bottas, Grosjean, Verstappen.

I mean any non-works driver that gets a podium (or high point scoring) beating out classes of the field, seems to get the nod that Ferrari will be giving them a full ride any day now. Or so rumor mills and internet forums would have you believe.

Joe Saward reports an arrest warrant has been issued for Vijay Mallya. He claims that he doesn't like running such a headline, but you just know he did a little dance when he heard the news.

Radio Le Mans is reporting that Toro Rosso will become a Ferrari-backed Alfa Romeo works team in 2017. It seems that this will have some impact on the Red Bull driver development programme, but exactly how that works remains to be seen. I wouldn't be surprised to see Max Verstappen in a Ferrari or a Red Bull next year.

A best finish of 11th in his second season of F3....wow, what a talent

He had a lot of bad luck last year and was stuck on a team the didn't rate or listen to him when it came to car set-up. A case-in-point being at the RedBull Ring where one of his teammates forced him onto the grass going up towards Turn 2 with a clear block, then complained to the stewards after the race about Ferrucci's "Reckless Driving"...

His column for Racer.com last year was pretty interesting stuff IMO.

Arrogant dicks? Exactly how many F1 race drivers don't have totally bullet proof self belief? Perhaps some drivers need better PR assistants....

The better question is how many of them have a bulletproof self belief and can back it up with on track performance? Sutil, Palmer and di Resta sure can't.

Perhaps... but the time for that arrogance to become wins is in the car. Episodes like Di Resta's sulk at a FIF1 family day (when Sutil was friendly and outgoing) are just unpleasant for everybody. Ain't no need.
