Damn I missed the Georgia flip due to natural causes but I will NOT miss the PA flip! Screw my cousin's dog, he'll be fine.

If anything, that’d benefit Trump since they’re more COVID-friendly. But to be honest, I have no qualms with those votes being counted since they were alive when they cast their vote.

I think how those votes are handled vary from state to state though.
They must be. In Wisconsin, this story came out a week ago about this cancer victim's vote no longer being counted and similar others would face the same fate.
A 20-year-old woman cast her ballot early before dying of cancer. Her state will throw it out.

I'm not sure how much of an impact it would have. It's true that Democrats were overwhelmingly voting mail ins, but when COVID started going completely out of control right around the time early voting started it was primarily in flyover country.

Interesting scenario, I don't know how that would work. What would happen if you cast your vote on the day, then left the polling station and got hit by a bus?

That also has me thinking, if, hypothetically Trump were to ether die or be removed from office for whatever reason between now and January 20th, that would make Pence president by default, but would than then trigger a second election?
20A covers that.

If the lame-duck President dies, 25A applies and whoever is currently VP would become President until the term ends on January 20. If the President-elect dies, whoever is VP-elect becomes President-elect and assumes office on January 20.

There's some wiggle room though. If the President-elect dies before the Electoral College in December, there's no set process for transferring their pledged electors (it's likely most would go for the VP-elect). If the President-elect dies between then and the meeting of Congress in January, the same thing could happen (Congress basically ratifies the EC results; if EC votes have gone to a dead person then they can object... and reassign them; again it's likely most would go for the VP-elect). Basically lots of lawyers get involved. If it happens in the ten days between Congress meeting and confirming the EC results and the term starting, the VP-elect will become President when the term starts.

If the VP-elect dies, the President-elect can nominate a successor to the post, and Senate would have to approve the nomination.

Also all of that applies to the word "resigns" too. Or anything that means the person can no longer discharge duties of office (including being in a coma, or even if under general anaesthetic).

There has never been a winning presidential candidate that died, but there has been a losing candidate that has died and thus had all of the votes invalidated (1872, when Ulysses S. Grant challenger Horace Greeley died in late November, PRIOR to the Electoral College officially casting their votes, as for some reason, a dead man is incapable of serving as president).

Given the ages of those involved and the global pandemic situation that surrounds them, Famines points above are not a trivial as they normally would be :scared:

Yay Georgia!

I wonder how many votes are left to count in GA. I gather #maboy clayton county (@Keef) is processed, but actually more votes could continue to trickle in. I would expect most mail-in ballots from just about anywhere in GA to go for Biden... except military ballots. Which as far as I know, they don't have yet.

GA is still a question mark.

I have thoughts on how the "stop the count" was supposed to work. I'm out of time though at the moment so I'll post later.

Does Trump want to continue the count so "ineligible" votes continue to potentially be tallied for him? I assume yesterday's ridiculous speech will be the concession speech.

Last report on CNN said he has no plans to concede, even if he no longer has a path.
All draws back to his inability to accept the fact he is wrong. He must be a real life version of the Fonz, except not as in with the times.

Trump will probably try all possible legal means to challenge results in various states. So no, any concession speech will be delayed for as long as the recounts and legal challenges take to be resolved. If this goes past Dec 8th, "Safe Harbor" day, we are in unclear territory, i.e., possibly something tantamount a constitutional or legal crisis.

@Rossell2, The numbers are not final until legally certified by the state in question. These certified numbers are due Dec 8th.

You don't have to concede though do you? If all the numbers are final.
You don't have to, but a losing President conceding is basically acknowledging his loss openly than privately. Trump is reportedly refusing to acknowledge a loss openly or privately.

Damn, blitzed it at 87% of the drop to Joe. Pretty sure there's still around 100,000 votes left in PA.
CNN reporting 15-20,000 left in Philly alone.

The concession isn't legally required and isn't "official" but it's kind of important because it sort of triggers that "it's okay to certify everything". The process continues regardless, but it's basically a vote of confidence in the results which obviously Trump doesn't have.

Al Gore actually had to retract his concession to GWB when Florida became contested.

Conceding is what normal people do when they know they've been beaten. Even if he has undeniably lost the election, I don't foresee anything that would convince Trump to hold a press conference or call Biden to congratulate him on the win. Quite the opposite, I'm sure, with nonstop comments that "he claimed" *insert various states here*, and all the fraud, corruption, vote tampering, etc.

Fixed.

Only close because of the stupid EC. Majority vote is a blowout...
Is betting against GTP rules? I'll still bet about $3.50 that Biden's lead hits 8,000,000. We're over 4.1 already and California is still only 77% counted.
