They're on the same side politically so of course he's gonna defend Dotini. Other people might not have done that. That's all there is to it.

....

To be fair he has the right to post whatever he wants(within the AUP) and you really don't have the right to tell him not to.
This site has moderators for a reason, don't like what he posts? Report it and/or ignore him.
Simples!

Pretty sure that post just tells you how the site works.

You could just say TexRex, unless you're scared he might defeat you with facts

I don't care if you like me or not. I don't like you. Ever since your discussion about you and your dad not wearing masks. Good day sir.
No, I'm not afraid of his "facts", I don't like his smug attitude when he feels he's smarter.
There are people here who I respect for being polite when trying to educate me, then there is being talked down to like a 9 year old, hidden behind fancy words.

No sweat off my back man.

Are you oblivious to the current world climate around you? Political affiliation has never held more importance (in my lifetime of 32 years) than it does right now.
No, I don't think my political affiliation over my almost 35 years and 3 presidential elections has a damn thing to do with anything considering I voted for Obama twice to only be disappointed...
Trump was a change...not the best...but a change none the less.
I'd vote Dem again if their party wasn't so rigged.
All they have is a senile old fart that can't put a sentence together to save his life!
I wanted Tulsi to run and I would've voted for her too, just for her campaign to disappear after Hillary made her go to Russian plant line.
Screw the Dems tbh.

So with the choice between 2 old white men,(wait I have to rant real quick, the Democratic party is supposed to be about inclusion right? Why did every person of color and every female get the boot for a senile old white guy? Let that sink in y'all) I'm gonna vote for the one who can at least remember what he's trying to say...

I see there was no point in politely asking you to stop.

So put him on ignore then. Problem solved.

it doesn't really. For what it's worth I appreciate the efforts that @DesertPenguin is going throughto highlight posts that at least outwardly appear to simply stir the pot and troll. @DesertPenguin doesn't seem to go after all posts made by any one member. But it helps prevent the pot stirring to point out when certain posts are worded to achieve that specific end. So I say keep fighting the good fight sir.

Is there anyone here who takes those posts serious?
That's not the point. The point is the place that he's coming from to make those posts in the first place. I hope that makes sense as I'm not the best with words.

Best thing to do if you don't want to ignore a person is just to start with a deep breath and ignoring single posts. Eventually the deep breath becomes just a mouse scroll.

You're missing the point again, and Danoff brought it up. I don't want to ignore his posts. I want to be able to point out when I see something wrong. The only pot stirring I want to see is in my kitchen.

No, I understand you post, and you're trying to achieve something that can't be done. If you go back many moons you'll see that the posts stay roughly the same and you're not the first to notice and get his feelings stirred. As long as staff don't intervene, the posts will stay the same.

I think the only way to prevent trolling is if the community as a whole responds (or doesn't respond) appropriately. We have a few members who hit these posts on the head and I appreciate that because it lets both poster and other readers know how it's being received. If nothing gets said, a lot of people might not recognize it.

I'll admit that I've let a few posts go that I probably shouldn't have. So I appreciate the effort that's going in to making GTPlanet the best forum it can be.

If the posts are just to stir the pot/troll, why not PM a mod to review it? I'm sure the AUP isn't so black and white that a mod can't use their own judgement to make a decision.

And instead of ignoring them one must put Christmas lights up with large neon signs all around it that say "WARNING!! TROLL!!"

Agreed. It's like a surrogate for a thumbsdown button. Maybe it's fair to just respond to some posts with 👎

Perhaps, but I feel like ignoring/avoiding them is also validation in that they see know attempt to be stopped.
TBH he did comment about not receiving likes at one point...
He does have his way of wording things but sometimes there is some truth in his posts.

Are we really at that point in time that one of the oldest Internet laws is no longer valid?

Then you must be new to the Internet. Or this is your first troll.
On less civilized forums I would agree but I'd like to think GTPlanet is above such things.

I've been on GameFAQs for the last 15 years. I'm aware of how bad it can be. The mods there are practically non-existent and I'm not even talking about just trolls. Straight up harassment goes unchecked there.

I'm of the belief that public shaming works wonders
Let's start hanging people in the town square again! Might scare off some people, and others will continue to do "wrong".
If you know Dot, you said you could school me, I don't know why you think calling him out will change anything.
And in response to me and him being on the same political page, last time I checked he's not exactly a Trump supporter.

If you actually talk to him, he's a pretty cool old dude.

Trolls feed on attention, it has been that way since the WWW gave us chats.

Edit.

Those 🤬 existed long before the internet too, but ignoring someone online is a lot easier.

Exactly. If I ever get to go to the rain soaked state, I'm grabbing a beer with @Dotini at his cabin.

I'm confused. Do you think he's a troll or not? Because sometimes in here you've advocated that he be treated like a troll. And other times you seem to think that he's someone to "grab a beer" with. So which is it? @DesertPenguin is trying to treat him like a real member of the community by explaining when some of his posts come off badly.

In my opinion, @Dotini is not a troll but does come off that way sometimes.

All members are welcome to a beer at my fishing cabin on the fjord, you especially. You might even get free room and board for a day or two. You would not be the first, nor hopefully the last.

Note: I try to make all my posts factual, entertaining, even stimulating, and at a stretch challenging or disturbing. For instance, above I made a post about a personal experience in elective politics, and the corruption I found there. It was real and it disturbed me greatly. I immediately quit my involvement in politics and never returned. I'm surprised that anyone found it to be trolling. It's the truth, it's relevant to the topic, and it's not directed to any particular person or political viewpoint. I guess I don't understand the latest generation's current definition of trolling. Once I asked a mod for GTP's definition, but I never got it. If I could be persuaded how that post amounted to trolling, then I would delete it, apologize and desist from doing it again. You see, I like this forum very much. I find it a valuable and healthy way to be in touch with the world at a time of great restrictions on human interaction. The last thing I want is to violate or push the AUP.

Trolling is intentionally making a post with the intention to illicit a negative reaction. "Poking the bear" as it were.

My intention is never to illicit generalized negative reactions. That almost always stops my participation. Rather, "thought-provoking" and stimulating intelligent questions and respectful discussion is my goal.
