The New King of Racers? FM4

Games like GT5 and Forza 3 has to be more forgiving than a real car or the sim would be a lot harder than real life because of the lack of information.

See this is the major problem I have with some posts and what people call sim. IN CERTAIN SITUATIONS the game may have to be more forgiving yet in some situations the game isn't forgiving enough. I'm sorry but if some of these cars behaved in real life as they do in these games then I doubt they'd even make in to the showroom. I haven't played GT5 in a while so don't get me to start pointing out specific cars etc. but I do know the overall feeling I got from some of the cars , like the 87 Civic Si was dead wrong in it's grip level. I owned that car in real life and if it performed in real life like it did in this game it would have been sold immediately. My Civic felt like it was on rails yet the game's GT5's Civic felt more like my wife's Tercel at the time. Even in Forza the 70ish Vette is a handful to get around a track and I'm not talking about blazing speed either. It's hard for me to believe that Chevrolet would sell a car that dangerous even back then.

I serious doubt they put the right tires and right default setting on every single car in the game. This is where both games seems to be "jack of all trades but master of none." more than games that focus on less cars. I think sometimes they try too hard to give every car a different feel when in reality a lot would drive the same.

I totally agree with this also. Alot of cars do drive the same or relatively close to each other. I look at these ALMS races and all these different cars from different manufactures are pretty much all neck and neck. Now I do understand there is some heavy modding going on but the car is still the car at some point. This just goes back to the argument that GT5 physics are better. I say no, they're just harder, at times. But hard does not automatically equal better. Which , you can tell Kaz himself believes since GT5P physics are less forgiving than GT5 from my experience. Where FM3's are more forgiving than FM2's from what I recall of FM2's.

My problem is will the devs start listening to this garbage and start putting out games unrealistically difficult to drive because a few clueless people automatically think hard is better. I don't want that. Just give me the real. That's the ultimate question for FM4 which will soon be answered. Did they cave to the squeaky wheel or stay true to what the car should do regardless how easy or not it is to drive it.

I think Mr Latte means a new Project Gotham game. They had the perfect mix between arcade and simulation. I like games like Forza and GT more, but it was really good for everyone. That doesnt mean that a none hardcore racer cant enjoy GT/FM.

Kinda but with more challenging aspects where car physics do replicate more the real experience you would expect. I agree that things like qualifying, fuel, tyre wear should all be included as mentioned so that they become bigger elements of racing games. Gameplay elements like those, the tyre marbles and different game modes should be better implemented.

Look how Dirt 3 had different modes of play and variation. I just don't want to see more repeats of 2-3 lap races with AI that put up little challenge. Still with Top Gear and off road tracks also the new mode of unlimited cars to overtake are welcomed including copying EA's idea of challenging friends best lap times etc.

I'd also be very surprised if they havnt got Lemans with day-night cycle and other night time events. It can add to the gameplay so is really welcomed.

Not by me. Even though this is different I can't stand those stupid "Beat the entire field in a lap or two events". I don't know how this is going to work but this I don't like at all. I was thankful that Forza never incorporated such trash but looks like they caved in. :grumpy:

I will be surprised if they do have a day-night cycle thing going. I don't think the engine/hardware combo can support it. But it would be welcomed if they could pull it off.

As long as they didn't take anything else out for it...

But yeah, you are right. I don't like that kind of gameplay either.
"Yeah, you're that super awesome race driver, now himböe all those grannies on the track, lol!"
Not my cup of tea, but, if it's just an addition, why not.

But you're not beating the entire field... its unlimited, it's just seeing how many people you can pass.

Though I have to say, I'm not thrilled about its inclusion, I'd rather have the AI trying to race against me than just seeing how much I can make my way past. (which I think is what you're getting at)

I really enjoyed the predecessor track day mode in the PGR series. It's a change of pace, plus the cars should get quicker the more 'levels' you progress.

I think it's probably more for the kinect mode driving.

I know my boy will imagine he's Rory the racing car so I'm happy with that.

ISR popped up a FM4 preview video,

tidbits I picked up
- I'm sure they said another unannounced wheel from a different manufacturer possibly before Christmas.. Might have mis interpreted that
- Some surprises left for painters
- New suspension model to go with new tyre model, totally revamped
- No comment on day/night, F1, Rally, lots of 'we've got more to reveal later'..
- New physics generally seemed good with their short time at E3, but being conservative to not over-hype anything, which is a nice change in their editorial style.
- Some small improvements to the damage system

If T10 put as much effort into the game as they put into the reveal party thingy, it should be pretty darn good. The cars they had there alone made me drool. Gotta say, though, they completely ripped the 'coolest car attending is added to the game' thing from GT.

New suspension model sounds good, but they probably had to. I do hope they've got some open wheelers now that they've redone it anyways.
I found it funny how the guy mentioned Red Dead Redemption's time of day changes himself and then is alll like "yeah, can't tell you anything about it." What the hell?
Anyways, the comments about how the games teares very little and keeps a solid 60 FPS most of the times were quite a relieve because, well, I was a bit concerned about that.
What sucks, though, is that us Europeans have to wait a bit longer on the game :indiff:

And, while I, of course, like to hear that the guys from ISR are actually pleased with the physics and all that, I'm still a bit cautious about just believing them. But yeah, they did seem to keep it relatively easy with the praise for Forza, so it seems relatively legit.

And I think I got that about a so far unanounced wheel as well, around christmas.

Awesome 👍

Few things: At the event :

- They have a couple of f1 drivers racingsuits from last year.
- A Mclaren f1 car from the 70's was in the firdt forza 4 announcement trailer.
-I have seen Rally cars and hints of dirt.
- Nightshots in the debut trailer.

This all leaves me to think that T20 has these things as trump cards that they will use later on nearing the official launch. :)

New suspension as well as tyre model could mean they've finally added the modeling for open-wheeled cars. That would be epic in itself regardless of the seemingly inevitable late reveal of night/rally/F1.

Hm... The F1 driver suits could really be a hint. And, yeah, there were night shots in the trailer, that's true. Personally, the addition of open wheel cars would be more important to me than night racing. It would be very welcome as well, though.

Concerning rally, I've got to say that there were rally cars in FM3 already, so I wouldn't jump to conclusions here.

I really hope 4 has the 787B. I remember hearing it was to be included in 3 but, for the life of me, I just can't remember where I heard/read that.

Closest included car is the Mazda B09

Yeah, I did... and I'm hoping it's and indicator for a few vintage F1 cars to be included. I'm not a fan of the current F1 as I think it's kinda boring, but having some of those old veterans roaring down the track would be a sight to behold in FM4.

And I don't think there are many games that offer that, so it'd be a nice feature for PR reasons, too. Fingers crossed ;)

Am I missing something? Was that bottom picture in-game footage? Id love to see some open wheel cars in F4

No, the car was just sitting around during that launch party thing. It's just speculation, but maybe it was picked for a reason.

I'm pretty sure there will be F1 and Rally in Forza 4.

The guys at T10 are smart and they dont show something too then never see it again. I'm talking about all the F1 racingsuits and the Mp7c :tup:Trust me those guys wont put it there just too not inlcude it in the game.

They showed us the Nissan Skyline GTR 33, Reventon and other cars at the E3 party for Forza 3 back in 2009. These cars were later to be found in the game. I believe that they have some big surprises for us and the hints at the 2011 e3-party are a good start.

I didn't even remember that, but that does sound very nice indeed.

While I'm sure the cars will be in the game I don't know if any Rally tracks will be included.

I don't believe F1 will be in. I think it has still been cited that they won't be modeling open wheelers because of the suspension modeling, as with FM3.

Where did you hear about F4 not having it?

I believe BADNED at the time, said not to expect the McLaren (or other open-wheelers) just because it appeared in a trailer & hinted that the team may not be able to model the damage done to them properly.

Edit*
Doing a bit of searching, BADNED said he would check into it, but not to expect it.
