The New King of Racers? FM4

I guess if cars in real life look cartoony, then I would agree these look cartoony.

Real life cars don't look cartoony, but something about those pictures make them look a little cartoony to me. Not to say they don't look fantastic, because they do, but something still seems off about them. Or, maybe I'm just insane. My wife would probably agree with that... :dunce:

Not to impressed with those pictures to be honest. They look kinda... I don't know, cartoony? Something seems a little off about them.

Regardless, I'll be picking this one up on day one.

Now, don't take what I'm about to say as an attack, as it's not my intention to do so, I just want to give soom food for thought :)
See, I've read comments like these quite often now - comments and post that are all about stuff that can't really be described. 'Something' being off with Forza, GT having an undiscribable 'something' that makes it better, and so on.

Now, this isn't directed at you, peobryant, and I don't mean to personally insult you, but I'm starting to get the feeling that these inexplainable things aren't really there. Don't get me wrong, I don't think anyone's claiming that for the hell of it, no, I just think that this certain 'something' that nobody can put their finger on, is actually their personal attachement, favouring one game over the other.
It might just be my imagination of course, but I really am thinking that's what it is.

Or, let me put it this way: If someone's unable to explain why a picture/video/game feels right or wrong, there probably is no other reason to it than that person's own feelings and bias.
I don't want to come across as condescending, as I know fully well I'm not being unbiased and objective all the time, I think it happens to all of us. It's just a thought that crossed my mind when reading posts like these, or posts stating that one of the games has "soul", while the other doesn't.

Anyways, regarding the video Hotspitta posted, I think it does look very, very good. I'm nott a huge fan of Autovista, but the F10 M5 is one of the cars I'm actually looking forward to in that mode. Mostly because I haven't heard muhc about it yet, so getting some nice info that's actually interesting presented to me seems good 👍
And, at least on a small YT video, the games looks pretty good in motion - which, to me, is more important than how good a screenshot can look when taken from the game's beefed up photo mode.

Please refer to the 2nd to last sentence you quoted. :dopey:

In all seriousness, I see where your coming from and it certainly makes sense, but I honestly don't feel like I have much bias one way or the other. I do prefer Gran Turismo to Forza, but that doesn't mean I accept all of GT's faults, or ignore everything that Forza does better than Gran Turismo. I feel both series are absolutely fantastic, and I'm amazed that Forza has been able to grow so fast while having so little time. It certainly makes me want Kaz and Co. to step up their game because like I said, there are many things that Forza does better than Gran Turismo.

The Cartoon-ish graphics are something I noticed when I first played the demo for FM3 when it came out as well. I can't explain it, but I still see it with FM4 too, although to a much lesser extent.

That being said, the game looks absolutely stunning and leaps and bounds ahead of FM3. It may seem like I'm trying to knock on Forza, but I assure you I'm not. I'm a massive fan of Forza, and I've bought every single one on release day (just like I do with GT) and plan on buying this game on day one as well. The physics matter to me much more than graphics anyway, and from everything I've seen, read and heard the physics are much improved over Forza 3 so that is much more appealing to me than improved graphics.

Bring on October 11th! 👍

I didn't mean to imply either, I was really just quoting your post because you were the first 'unlucky' fellow to give me a starting point for that little rant ;)

And it didn't come across as if you were knocking Forza or anything, I didn't mean too look like I was getting defensive; I'd like to appologize if it sounded like I was accusing you of having a strong bias

At the end of the day, it's all just opinions, anyways.

All I'm saying is that, quite often, I feel like bias is one of the factors that leads people to just claiming that something's wrong with a certain game, without elaborating what it actually is.

Anyways, it's all good, I don't want to start some sort crusade against those kinds of posts, I just wanted to share that thought of mine ;)

Agreed completely :D

Cartoonish look is due to FM's colour palette being slightly wrong, thats why GT cars look right and in FM they look slightly off, FM4 has improved, but i still think in AutoVista mode the problem is still there.

Thats no reason to not buy this game though.

No need to apologize. I didn't feel you were targeting me directly, and I completely agree with what your saying, actually. I do think a lot of the GT fans make up things in their head because they don't want to accept another developer can do just as good a job as PD can. That's the beauty of owning both (or all three consoles) we get to enjoy all the great games.

Also, I just got back form Gamestop and put $50 down on the Collector's Edition. 👍

Looking pretty good. Still haven't got the colour pallet right though. Shift 2 seems closer in that aspect. 👍

It seems like FM4 is a GT5 rip-off with better manufacturers. They copied many features from GT5 and added new ones.

And GT5 is a FM3 rip-off which was a GT4 rip-off.

Welcome to world of competition in business.👍

It's all about taking ideas from your competition and seeing how you can improve them. It's actually a really good thing and the consumers wind up winning.

Forza took the basic formula from Gran Turismo quite some time ago. Since then... Well, I'd say, T10 have started to stay ahead in terms of features.
What does GT have over FM now? Dynamic time change, yeah, but... Not much else, right?

Gt still does have allot of things Forza doesn't. Kart racing, rally(on dirt and snow), track creator, weather changes, oil changes, used car dealerships, and new seasonal events all the time. Fact is both games have quite a few things the other doesn't.

What I do find hilarious is no one is shouting bullshots left, right and center just like GT had...I wonder why. Still pick this up but people's urge to hate GT seems to be making them vulnerable ti believing the game will look like half these pictures, the gameplay videos still look great thopugh.

Yeah, GT does have some stuff left. I just don't think is all that much when compared to FM.

The gameplay videos are one of the reasons that we're believing the pictures are at least close to what the game will be like. That's the case for me, anyways.

I wouldn't put down oil changes as a feature. :sly:

I like the idea of a track creator but not being available to anything but solo time trials was just a stupid feature. I created a track that was as fast with a Lotus 111R as it was with a Kart but never could use it. If I wanted someone to try it out I had to tell them how to recreate the track how I made it. That's just dumb.

Used car dealership was a means to foot in the 800+ standards. That's why you have a dealership, used dealership and now online dealership which in my book was last minute addition since everyone was complaining about cars that wouldn't pop up in the used dealership. Cars like the FGT which you needed specifically for a race.

Definitely agree that both have things the other doesn't, both have pros and cons when compared to each other.

Kart Racing: Was actually fun. Did more of that in multiplayer than almost anything else. They definitely have a fun little addition there.

Rally: Feels totally tacked on too me. I'd rather just buy Dirt 3 and go to town.

Track Creator: Great start, needs to be fleshed out a whole lot more.

Weather Changes: Nice addition, again feels a little tacked on. See F1 2010 on how it's done.

Used Car Dealerships: What about this? A place you go to buy a car. Sorta like FM3 dealerships , a place where you go to buy a car. If you're talking about having to wait to get a car you want versus it being right there ready to buy when you want then that's a "feature" I can do without.

Oil Changes: The butt of many jokes on the internet as it is. This is PURE novelty. This along with the frame adjustment thing. That has to be the worse.

Aside from weather changes and track creator the rest of that stuff I hope T10 never decide to waste time implementing. Only work on that when everything and I mean EVERYTHING else has been fully worked on and perfected and you got a few spare days to play around with.

Isn't Forza's auction house pretty much the same as a use dealership?

Plus, both games took from others.

Test Drive Le Mans - Dynamic day/night cycle.
PGR 4 - weather
PGR3 - course/route editor
Test Drive V-rally - amazing track creator

And a game like Toca Race Driver 2 had a serious feature list. Open wheel, rally, I think they even had truck racing (maybe that was Toca 3).

This is actually exactly what Im talking about. I like how it makes certain cars rare and hard to get. I know I might be in the minority on this one but its just my personal opinion.

Not really since there are no rare cars in the Auction house. In the used car dealership some cars are hard to find and much more rare. You can get any car you want from the Auction house at any given time.

Don't forget Racing helmets, museum cards, horn collecting and paint chip collecting being exclusive to GT too.
