Seems the announcement scheduled for next month has been pushed to May 21st. Last minute changes ala X360 ram increase? We shall see
Paul Thurrott seems to be positive about the console. I don't think they will increase the ram, will seem over the top. Only speed of ram, CPU and GPU will probably be considered. It will be interesting to see what Microsoft has in store and how much of their initial ideas make it into the console. They probably couldn't get console ready in time for reveal.

I am pretty sure there isnt going to be any major "next xbox" announcement until E3.

Microsoft dont seem to be rushed to announce anything after sony announced the ps4.

I wonder if they are waiting to see what sony have?

Rumor: Kinect 2.0 info leak

Apply Gamer

Might as well wait till around E3.

Would be nice to watch if there's no leaks, unless MS have some DVR boom zoom box that talks to your microwave oven and they spend 2 hours talking about how "connected" it is and how many sport channels you can watch with excluso gizmo, call the game with kinect 2.0, throw the pass from your couch

....And that did it for me. Definitely out of the question now. I get booted offline all the time and that would ruin the experience for me. Dumb move.

I also like to opt out of being online so people don't bother me.

Wow, if that makes it into the final product you can absolutely forget it. Then again the always-Kinect thing did it for me a while ago (unless I can get away with pointing the camera at a photo of a chimp). Seriously though, anyone who played an Ubisoft PC game with always-online DRM will know that this is a total dealbreaker. Even they backed down in the end. I wonder if this is publisher pressure in response to how quickly and easily the 360 got hacked to play copied DVDs?

Also, what's an XDK? Xoftware Developer Kit? It's like the 360's XID input device protocol, did that stand for Xuman Input Device? Then again the PS3's Xross Media Bar was a bit of a joke too. Do they think acronyms beginning with 'X' sound cool and edgy or something?*

*this is a tongue-in-cheek remark.

Requiring always on DRM over internet connection = no buy for me

It seems like choosing a consoles these days more about which one doesn't screw you over as much rather than actual gaming performance. Do companies ever learn?!

Well, Microsoft basically shot themselves in the foot. Actually, they shot themselves in the face. Unless the PS4 turns out to be about as powerful as a calculator, or has something similarly stupid up its sleeve, then the Xbox is going to lose a lot of sales to it, all because of this feature.

I could not agree more.

Heh. Yep, thank you MS for giving me more reasons to not like you... "Always connected online", sorry but definitely NOT interested in the next xbox... What about the people who have social anxiety and want to play offline? Just, WOW MS... >__>

I have no idea what the mean age is of the humans that frequent GTP, but perhaps we are older and more sensitive to privacy issues than those that MS views as their lowest common denominator market? Might be water off a duck's back to the "young'ns".

"an unspecified source"

Why would you believe anything from an unspecified source? Just wait for MS to actually tell us about it before you start moaning.

Ok lets pretend that's the case.

My internet provider is doing work on it's servers for the next week. My Xbox is useless.

Unless the console is based on some sort of stream-based content purchase I hardly see MS pulling that off.

If they want to be like EA and pull stupid 🤬 , more power to them but no one would buy if that's the case, maybe some idiotic people ... but I hardly see that happening in a practical way.

See, the more that we hear about and talk about this stuff, the better it is for them. After a while it becomes somewhat normalised. Once we hear speculation of worst case scenario, the "lesser evil" becomes much more easy to swallow. Like a rumour suggesting that you are getting a 15% pay cut. You huff and puff about it, but when the "mere" 5% pay cut is handed down you think "well that's not so bad". Process = push the speculative envelope, then "kindly" be far less severe.

Microsoft becoming Big Brother . Seriously though, I think at the moment it is a case of wait and see. There seems to be a lot of ideas behind the console, some good and at the moment quite bad ones IMO. It will be interesting to see what they have decided soon.

They are not exactly say who it is are they? Two of Kotaku sources, one they say is usually right on these kind of things, is all we know.

There is probably things still up in the air but it is probably good people are moaning about it, less likely for Microsoft to do something this crazy. However I do think if they have decided on this, they will stick to it unless it results to being a complete failure. Will be interesting also to see if Windows 8 gets a usual start button and menu system too. That will potentially show how far Microsoft are willing to push things.

Kotaku can claim what they like about their sources, they're still just anonymous rumours.
Only thing official IIRC regarding next Xbox is a leaked Microsoft presentation and that was a while back. Rumours are interesting though, so far ones from credible sources regarding PS4 have turned out to be true. Microsoft seem to be taking more measures than Sony to stop leaks happening like the rumoured Zebra striped controllers.

I never said rumours weren't interesting but I just don't see the point of getting all up in arms about any of them when they could easily not be true, just like the PS4 used game rumours.

Personally I just cannot see anyone doing this, it's be suicide. They must have the data for how many Xbox 360s purchased haven't been online by simple deduction.

I would say let's wait until MS themselves reveal something, ANYTHING, before we make final judgement because going based off of old leaked docs and rumors and rumors of rumors is nothing more than BS.

Always online won't happen. Not every console is connected online. That is suicide. It is completely different to STEAM and PC simply because on PC to access STEAM you actually need an internet connection. On console, the lowest common denominator is going to be the lowest spec SKU NOT connected to the internet.

Locking your console and any tech to it to having an internet connection is suicide. But I love the doom and gloomers who are thinking rumors are facts.. SMH

I also do like how the "source" allows themselves to just say "yeah, things changed, I was totally right though" by starting with the line "Unless something has changed recently".

Would be amazed if they went always online,

on the other hand, if they make some console/pc/set top box, the whole ethos will be ditch your boxes and pc, this is the only one needed or at least be the main thing in your living room. What comes part and parcel to an all encompassing multi functional box is you'll need and want to have it connected at all times so, its the prime thing in your house and not relegated behind other devices so its not a stretch to ask it to be wired up to the net at all times like your pc is. Therefore they can slide of hand this in about games.

Right now many consoles are the second or third thing, many are on sketchy wifi, only connected when needed like a major update and then the pc is plugged back in or never at all.

I know a few of my friends don't even know how to hook a PS3 up to the internet :/

PS4 used game rumours was just peoples interpretations of a patent and its purpose IIRC. The more interesting rumours I find are ones that seem to be backed by multiple sources and sound actually involved with actual hardware or know about it. I do understand where you are coming from and agree to the extent of people should not take it as something as 100% accurate. Making their opinion known I think is good as long as people don't take it too seriously as fact and start hating on it like it is already true.

Like I likened to before, Microsoft might feel like they are forcing the change, similar to what they have done with Windows 8. I wouldn't put it beyond Microsoft at the moment, even though how crazy it sounds. I would hope it is not the case though, competition is important as well as for others to not get such crazy ideas to enforce and checkmate us consumers if it does turn out to be successful.

I do think that is quite normal, things are still not finalised yet going by what DICE and Sony have said and I think that will be the case for Microsoft too. Main things that seem to get leaked is what developers know.

Yeah but what I mean is if MS launch the console and it doesn't have this system and they make no mention of it how will be ever know these rumours were true at any point? We won't.

I think we might do as we will probably hear some stories from developers saying X this and that after they are finally allowed to talk about the next Xbox in detail. It is bound to leak from someone, what might have been stories regarding both the consoles. Also what people involved in that industry think was right or wrong.
