This online malarky is interesting. It's got people talking etc. people want to know what this next box does exactly.

Pretty good situation to be in, especially if your about to launch a new system.

Well, if you go by the theory that any and all puplicity is good puplicity, then yeah. MS is looking good. But the thing is, they are getting a lot of negative feedback at the moment. Doesn't take much brain power to realise that always online is completely unnecessary and a huge inconvinience for gamers.

It has been a pleasure watching the sithstorm and the (negative) coverage it has gotten from gaming and news outlets. It has now come to attention that he's basicaly a nobody.

The most frustrating part of this entire thing, as a Microsoft employee, is that "Creative Director" apparently doesn't actually mean anything.

This guy is 6+ levels away from Ballmer, works on "2WAY TV", and has one person reporting to him. He's a nobody, and after today, will probably be less than a nobody.

But his thoughtless tweets on his personal Twitter account and his "Creative Director" title are making people think he's actually important and influential. Thankfully he's not.

Kind of. Lots of angry people on the mailing lists - both because of the alleged internet requirement (which no one but those who need to know would know about) and because of how tactless this guy was.

Looking at his position in the hierarchy, he probably wouldn't even know if there was an internet requirement if there was one.

Edit: Interesting. An official statement from Microsoft. Saying nothing valueable.
[Update] We received an official statement from Microsoft, via the company's PR firm Edelman, concerning the tweets sent by Microsoft Studios' creative director Adam Orth last evening.

The statement reads as follows:

"We are aware of the comments made by an employee on Twitter. This person is not a spokesperson for Microsoft, and his personal views are not reflective of those of the company. We have not made any announcements about our product roadmap, and have no further comment on this matter."

While I agree that it is unnecessary and an inconvenience, the same applies to XBL(my opinion of course), but look how successful that's been for MS.

Hey wait a bloody second.

For the vacuum cleaners "always online" thing, Sony should sue that guy!
They have the Royalties!*GT joke* hint hint ;-)

Anyway, I'm looking forward to read about people's love for MS when they'll do this:

bahahaha, the best stuff always crops up when the internet hate machine burns strong.

I recently discovered I can't play Try not to Fart without a connection. I don't have lan where I am. Not going to spend $$ on the Wifi adapter to play a single player game.

So, they already have some form of always online. And its a turn off......

All negative feedback based on rumors, assumptions and speculation...

Like the same with Ps4, this is common and shouldn't be surprising. You assume PS4 can't match high end PC games in textures. You did the same.

Even though both are based on rumors, one (my point) is heavily backed by reality. The PS4 will launch behind the PC curve. Even Digital Foundry noted differences between the 2 UE4 demos where the PS4 version was already lacking some features (i.e. lighting). This is speculation no my part but I highly doubt the PS4 will launch with an i7 level CPU and a GTX 680 or higher GPU, and this is based on the amount of teraflops info stated by Sony and devs, along with the assumption that the PS4 won't be costing $1000+ ;)
The same goes for the next gen xbox360, it too will be behind the curve even if they match Sony's unified 8GB GDDR5 RAM. Next gen will be a pretty big leap forward for consoles, but PCs like usual will already be ahead of the curve.

Based on numbers games with insane textures on PC out now are all possible on PS4. You said textures before, I never said lighting. I know If I have to turn off redundant lighting effects in Bioshock Inf to keep a high framerate you can grantee its not going to work on PS4 for 60fps. But that's ok because it doesn't make a difference if you are playing it on PS4, it looks spectacular in its own right doesn't have to match anything else but the XB720.

But seriously Almost all PCs are behind an I7 680GTX PC you call a curve. That demo only ran at 30fps. In reality most gamers don't have that. There is a threshold of graphics quality that will be achieved with Ps4/720. Going beyond that isn't going to make a big difference.

I'm not really sure what point you're trying to make. First off you're making a bigger assumption that current stuff on PC maxed out is possible on PS4 without knowing the full specs of the PS4. The initial argument was that PS4/X720 when launching will already be behind PCs when at their best, which is true. The current rig I built is behind a very powerful i7 + GTX 680 (i5 + GTX 670) and based on tflop figures given the PS4 is a card or two behind my current rig. Factor in console optimization and I'd say it's as powerful as mine without me overclocking. We don't know what the next xbox will be like yet, we just have info based on older leaked docs and rumors, but assuming it's on par or within the range of a PS4, it's the exact same deal. There currently exists i7s with dual GTX Titan GPUs in SLI, and later this year the more powerful and newer CPUs and GPUs will be out by the time the PS4/X720 launches. So my statement is already and will be true that both will launch behind the curve. We will most likely see games like pCARS looking and playing the best on PC while sacrificing on next gen consoles like PS4/X720. All depends if you want to pay to play. Some, also including myself, might be fine as is with lower resolutions and framerates, smaller map sizes or lower car grid counts, less AA and particle effects, etc, at the expense of convenience and cost.

FYI, based on rumors (and this is not intended to be an end all be all because a system's power is more than just a single figure or component) the PS4 is capable of 1.84 teraflops with the Durango apparently at 1.23 teraflops, while a single GTX TITAN was tested at 4.5 teraflops. This isn't the end all be all but newer cards are due out later this year and consoles already behind the curve.

Here's politically correct Francis

But in his channel you have to check the Viral Video out

Francis is MAD Xbox 360 ALWAYS ON REQUIREMENT #XBOX.

Rumors are starting that Microsoft tossed him out on his ass:

Sources are telling 4Player that Adam Orth is no longer working for Microsoft. Currently tracking this down further...

...we've confirmed this with one reliable source but not two, and Orth's linkedin has currently shown no movement. We're considering this a high possibility but it currently lacks enough verification for us to confirm at this time.

Linky.

We do know enough. No assumption, its right on Sony's website.

What does that mean for all PC's now that don't have that kind of power?

I do, so I suppose I'm legitimally disappointed with consoles that are due to release at the end of the year/early next year won't offer me better graphics than my current PC? :sly:

The Viral Video is pure comedy! My favorite part is when he states....

One of his(Orthy) followers says: I live in a rural area so my internet isn't very fast.

and the guy(Orthy) says: Why would you live there?

This is how you talk to an xbox customer?

Hahaha! Don't miss the smashing at the end.....hilarious!

That would be messed up if he lost his job over this. Seriously? It hasn't been confirmed and it clearly wasn't denied. I thought they didn't comment on rumors and speculation, whoops.

Do agree, even if his Tweets may lead to some what confirming a rumor, should not lose his job over something like that.

Potential conversation that has gone on at Microsoft:

Aaron Greenburg goes "Get whoever that guy is ranting on Twitter connected with us over here."

Adam Orth comes in and says, "I have said my opinions. Deal with it."

Aaron says, "We heave dealt with it and now we have finished dealing with you. Connection terminated. Goodbye."

Seriously though you would hope he doesn't lose his job that easily.

Why not? People in my industry (betting shops) have been losing jobs over posts made on Twitter and Facebook making comments which are less aggressive than that, but just as defamatory.

I believe in second chances and he can redeem himself then. If he gets sacked, he will most likely have resentment which might lead to him going off onto a worse path.
