Yes and no.

While there's myriad folk saying PS4 has won and they're buying a PS4, it's faintly daft. We don't know what PS4 will do because Sony spent three hours revealing the name and acting like all gaming is Facebook - not even a physical device, much less components, specs and DRM strategies.

It's also irrelevant. People don't need to buy a PS4 for the Crossbone to fail. They just need to not buy the Crossbone. Right now, there's an awful lot of negativity aimed at it - and you have to say it's for good reason.


At present, the proposals for Crossbone put it so far out of consideration as to not even be funny - like beyond Wii U consideration. But I don't know what PS4 will bring, so that's not in the picture either. With things as they stand right now, I'll be playing GT6 on PS3 until Christmas 2015.

What this thread needs to do is get back to what the Crossbone will and won't do and not what the putative PS console has to offer by way of competition. Which is, at present, nothing - it may be more evil, it may be less evil or it may be almost exactly as evil, but the PS4 thread will deal with that when E3 arrives.

The PS4 to me has no bearing at all on my decision to buy or not buy a new Xbox. I have no plans to buy a PS4 until they release a game for it that I want and that I need a PS4 to play and that will likely be 2-3 years away. For now I am perfectly content to get GT6 for the PS3

The Xbox on the other hand I was planning to purchase this year but as it currently stands that will probably not be the case. I will wait for more official info on the system before I make a final decision but if the early reports/rumors are true it is very likely that I will never be the owner of this Xbox system. This sux because I would like to get FM5 but there are limits to what I am willing to do/pay to get it.

It's confirmed the Xbox Live service will remain subscription based. It's probable that PSN shall remain free, and PS+ still a premium. Sony have a slight edge on MS in making online play free to all from the moment you open the box. Considering the current negative response to the Xbone, if Sony get dedicated servers for each game and keep PSN free, MS aren't going to have a console for long.

I don't see anything that changes it from speculation.

That is what I'm trying to figure out. If I don't use my Xbox for a few days and I take the ethernet cable out of it, and use it for another devices, will it lock me out of my games even if I put the ethernet cable back into the console? Will it shut down until the cable is placed back in?

Actually, my view is that the speculation regardless of how inarticulate it may be, could prove vital. The companies will take whatever ground they feel they can. This is the frog in increasingly hot water scenario playing out. Chances are that all that people can do is periodically point out that they see the corporation's hand adjusting the flame.

As an aside, your sweeping statements hardly elevate yourself far above the "immature kids" that you deride.

I must say though, the water cooler bit never loses weirdness.

The ultra cynic in me thinks the reveal has every eye now on MS and talking about it non stop. They'll show Halo, some Epic Games exclusive, some Mass Effect style game etc and it'll be what TV, just an extra feature, PS4 has no games, Killzone, that old crap, ha. Also Xbox Live is a big draw and not sure people will give it up although Sony has to liven up PSN to even think about selling well in the US.

I just got into the world of Xbox. I am really starting to love it. So, I want to be hyped. I'm just not finding a reason. Forza 5 is the ONLY thing holding my attention. Even when scouring the rumour mills, I find nothing hyping me. I agree it's way too early to give up hope. But I can't but feel discouraged. So far, the hype seems to focused on watching me watch TV. What is so different in that than owning a dog and being lazy.

hmm 25th? I did not think it had been around quite that long though once I think about it I did start playing it back in 91 so that would have been almost 22 years ago and was not the first version released so maybe.

I really liked that game, shame they quit making it for the PC. I always liked the PC version better than any console version.

I have heard of that legendary map, travellers have mentioned the existence of a fabled map of clarity and common sense. But beware the map takes many guises and travellers on the weary path have fallen into treacherous pitfalls.

Your girls have good taste. Not sure I'd be giving my kids headsets and Halo lol. Well one is 24 so he's ok. My 9 year old isn't having a head set.
