Everyone seems to hate Kinect. Microsoft is trying to hard to force this crap in the market. They are failing.

I don't think people hate kinect. I think they just don't want it, or don't want it to affect their gaming. It certainly has great potential, just not necessarily in gaming.

Kinect is actually fun but I don't want to use it every time I play. Most of the time I want to sit down and play some games not being forced to be active just to play a video game. Microsoft has been doing improvements with Kinect. I saw a video where they used Kinect to control a shopping cart without being there. I think Microsoft really wants this to be the next big thing but they have to realize, people do not always to do motion gaming all the time.

I for one want to sit back and relax when I play videogames. People work and come back home tired, has family duties and stuff. Microsoft are doing this because of Nintendo Wii sales. But they forgot an Xbox user is basically like a PlayStation user, overall we prefer traditional gaming with gamepad, If someone want to jump around he better go out and make some sport. There's no need of a kinect.

One thing they should do. Increase the number of first person shooters where you can actually use "guns to shot on TV" like House of the Dead. But I want to have a gun in my hand, not imagine to have one. Kinect is not the way to go.

I agree. It's not that Kinect is inherently bad; it's just that, so far, it has only ever seen two applications:

1) Super casual games, along the lines of stuff you'd find on the Wii. Think "Kinect Adventures" and the like.
2) Gimmicky features in not-so-casual games. Like controlling Autovista in FM4. That's not a bad feature, and neither is the voice recognition and yada yada, but it's just that: A gimmick.

So, yeah, that's why I dislike Kinect. It really doesn't bring anything I actually want to the table. It might a few gimmicks to games I'd like, anyways. But not having these wouldn't make me unlike said games... All it really does for me is a) increase the cost of the console and b) create mor 'disctractions' that might cause developers to create even more super casual games and put even more unnecessary, gimicky features into games - instead of doing stuff I'd actually like to see.

Kinect clearly is the better out of the two Wii-ripoffs and I guess Microsoft did have decent success with it. But, somehow, it seems like they're overestimating the market for that sort of stuff. The Wii opened that market up soem time ago and it moved along since, trying to get into that now, as forcefully as MS (and Sony, too, with their motion sensor + touchpad controller) is doing now seems a bit... Foolish.

The Wii, back then, was the next big thing because it was cheap and casual friendly. But, somehow, it seems that Microsoft and Sony (and Nintendo itself, to a degree) are certain that it's all down to the non-traditional control layout. I, for one, would argue that one large reason for the Wii's success that everyone tries to replicate now was that it had the whole casual market for itself. The PS3 and Xbox 360 weren't really catering to that audience back then, so the Wii had no competition.

Nowadays, that market is catered to. And boy, are developers supplying that maret at the moment! The competition is huge, with smartphones and tablets and all that. So, really, MS, Sony and Nintendo could implement the craziest control layouts ever, but the huge success of the Wii won't be replicated by doing that. Unless someone finds a new, completely untouched market - but that seems incredibly unlikely.

And that's why I think the whole buzz around motion control and whatnot is just stupid. Console manufacturers are barking up the wrong tree, in my opinion. Which, in combination with the points mentioned at the beginning of my post (which turned into a rather lengthy rant ) ticks me off even more...

I think now that it's standard equipment and the console may turn out to be designed around it (as in, with controllers that don't feel awkward to use with Kinect) we might see some really cool stuff coming from it. If Microsoft come out with some sort of cordless nunchuck style controllers you could even have a proper first person shooter using Kinect for head and gun tracking or something rather than a simple on rails lightgun shooter or something.

Kinect being an expensive optional extra kind of relegated it to gimmick status because it was too risky to design an entire game around it, I imagine. We'll probably see some genuinely interesting uses for it now, just look at what the PC modding community have done with it. They don't have to worry about losing millions of dollars on a commercial flop seeing as they usually do it in their spare time for free anyway.

I do worry that both companies are forgetting about the gamers that just want to sit down with a controller in their hand, put a disc in their console and play a game. MS are going all out with Kinect, Sony are obsessing with social stuff, I don't care for any of that stuff. I just want a straight up games console that does what it says on the tin, just like past generation consoles did. I don't want to share my gameplay, I don't want someone to join and help me, I just want Super Metroid on a SNES translated into 2013.

Yep I'm for traditional gameplay as well. The only thing I want is shoot some aliens with a "real" gun on my hand. But it's not a new idea at all. It has been made 15 years ago, who played House of the Dead coin-op? I want that, but in 2013 graphic and at my home.

Kinect? NO thanks.

Doesn't killZone and THE move have a similar -ish gimmick?

Oh and I don't mind kinect at all, played at a friend and had fun, plus seems to attract casual users therefore increasing the game community, but like you guys have mentioned make it an option don't force it.

Yeah, that Move Gun, or whatever...

Dunno, I still think keyboard and mouse is the best layout for FPS games. Unless you've got a cinema-sized screen to use those light guns on, as the aiming would be so finicky on a small screen.

Yeah I can't see how that thing works on a small TV,it does look enjoyable, atleast it's a different option to have

A 45 inch LCD should be enough. One thing would be cool toghether with the gun:
A sort of tapis roulant that recognize human movements 360 degrees and translate them into the game. You shoot with the gun you move, run and jump with your feet, would be cool :)

and Tyring  running around a BF3 map yeah good luck

Funny you guys should say that...

You can train for New York marathon playing fps. :)
Seriously would be cool. Microsoft want us to move? give us a tapis roulant instead of kinect, I can't run all over my living room.

@ neema that thing is exactly what I'm talking about!!! Expensive but AWESOME.

Rumor: Microsoft to have secured some sort of EA exclusivity deal

CVG
Due to the necessities of multiplatform development and publishing, it is likely that such a partnership will not extend beyond exclusive downloadable content, or staggered release dates. An outright exclusive EA game on the Next Xbox would be unlikely, and certainly a major coup for Microsoft if such a deal were to be secured.

Both industry sources had different speculation on what the EA partnership would be. One claimed it might be Battlefield 4, while the other suspected that Respawn Entertainment will make a surprise appearance. Neither person works for EA or Microsoft, and so could not confirm the terms of the deal.

Well for me both Consoles will be on a wait and see status for me. I'm lying, lol. I'll be picking up the next xbox on or close to launch. The thing is Forza would be the motivating factor for that but Forza is going to be closely watched for me. Longer public races are needed for sure. I'll be getting the next xbox because of non-racing titles and the various friends I have online.

But my racing is pretty much PC dominated these days. As for the PS4, the PS3 left a bad taste in my mouth. Sony is REALLY going to have to show something for me to invest. For one, GT6 is going to have to be spectacular when it comes out. If it is then I'll consider getting the PS4. Unless they have some OMG title on it before then. Currently the PS3 doesn't have any OMG titles that I'm interested in.

I don't think EA has any game on their roster that would make a person dead set on keeping loyalty with Sony or PC gaming switch over to get DLC a month early.

Agreed, but Porsche may be a pipe dream for GT unfortunately. Depends how deep EA are in with MS.

Some disturbing rumors in this link

http://www.vgleaks.com/durango-xdk/

Keep in mind the following is rumors

Kinnect is required to be on at all times

Must install entire game to HDD. Blu-ray drive does not read games during gameplay, it only transfers the game data to the HDD.

The good news is that confirms blu-ray movie playback. Many feared the bluray drive was there just for gaming and lacked blu-ray movie playback, similar to how the Nintendo consoles have DVD drives but lack DVD movie playback.

Rumor talks about "always on, always connected" but not sure if this is mandatory. PS4 is also "always on, always connected", but its been confirmed you can play offline.

Now people will FINALLY quit arguing with me when I say the next xbox WILL have a blu ray player. It was confirmed a long time ago and I have been saying that for a long time BUT I was not allowed to post my source. :sly:

With that open public confirmation, I can now explain why I am much more interrested in the next xbox. With the next xbox having blu ray, I dont even see myself getting a PS4 at all. The only main reason I even own a PS3 is for blu ray.

You called it, huh? You and every else with an ounce of common sense.
Then why did everyone argue with me? I guess just those without common sense. :sly:

Still not sure if this will be a day 1 purchase but the public confirmation of blu ray is a massive selling point for me for the next gen consoles. The only main reason I use my PS3 at all is blu ray and a couple exclusives. I dont see myself even considering the PS4 next gen. Its going to take some sort of miracle to convince me to buy a PS4.
