I wonder if it's because of some sort of privacy/legal issues in those countries in regards to the always on/camera/mic stuff.

^Germany has very strict rules and you can be sure, when it hits the selfs the first claims will follow...
EA Origin in Germany. EA had to rewrite the TOS.

Another thing that is wierd is their stance on used games and reselling.

EU court ruling against Oracle.

They are looking for trouble... if anyone wants to sue, they got a real chance against MS

Wait a second...are you kidding me?
Requires broadband internet (ISP fees apply), a Microsoft account and an account on Xbox Live in an Xbox One-supported Xbox Live country/region, and 720p or higher HDMI-compatible TV.
Somehow I missed this bit of news. So on top of everything else, even if I was fully committed to buying an XBone, I can't use it until I buy a new TV?? :odd:

I admit I'm behind the times with my CRT. Even though I value reaction time over pixel counts, digital is obviously the way forward. That said, the Wii U supports 480i composite, and the PS4 will support analog video too (PDF link)...so this is just one more thing the XBone can't do. This is getting awfully absurd.

To be honest yeah, that one's on you really. This is a HD gaming console released in 2013, it's not really too much to ask that you have an HDTV.

At this rate I start to think MS will release a video saying all this is a wind up and its coming out at $299 worldwide, no restrictions. I keep expecting the bad news stop and they lock Don away for a while. This has to be a ruse now.

Xbox One will only work in certain countries at launch. It will not work in others

There are no Asian countries in that list. That is a huge amount of people they just forgot.

Microsoft. What the hell are you doing?

That's including Japan, which last I checked is a huge market. I get the feeling I may be seeing why there was no price listed for Japan for the Xbox one.

Japan is traditionally a Sony market with the Xbox not doing very well. However the rest of Asia contains a huge amount of people.

:odd:

Is there like, no end to this...insanity?

Oh no, not yet.
One other area where Sony won points was its pricing. At £349, the PlayStation 4 is £80 cheaper than the Xbox One's RRP of £429. It's not an insignificant amount of money, but Harrison is confident that the Xbox One will justify the extra. "We feel great about the value of Xbox One," he says. "It's a unique architecture, with Kinect and the power of the cloud. What we showed yesterday was the most incredible games lineup in any first few months of a platform launch, many of which are exclusive and all of which have advantages being on Xbox One. That's what's really going to drive value. We couldn't be happier with the price we're starting at."
The 24-hour ping takes kilobytes of data.

In the words of a Microsoft employee, 'we have a product for people who do not live in these countries, its called the Xbox 360...'

What's "on me" is to decide between a $350 Wii U that works just fine, a $400 PS4 that works just fine, or a $500 XBone that requires a new TV. It's pretty straightforward from there. When I have a choice, it's not "on me" to buy an HDTV to enjoy a particular brand of pixellated cars running virtual laps. When I don't "need" an HDTV for any other reason, I'm not going to run out and buy one!

What I'll admit to is that I won't always have a choice, and it won't be too much to ask...someday. But that day isn't today, and Microsoft can kiss my ass if they think it is. I guess "they have a product" for SDTV owners. "It's called the Xbox 360."

A world with no internet or limited internet is probably completely unfathomable to Don or anyone at MS. Don probably has Wifi installed in his daughters Barbie jeep, his golf bag, and his hot tub.

I have a hard time imagining using a an old SDTV even with a 360 or PS3. Sure they support it but the picture is crap compared to how it looks on a HDTV or a PC Monitor.

Of course if that is what you have and you don't mind the poor quality that is fine. Of all the things the box requires the HDMI is a minimal concern as pretty much every TV on the market has supported this for quite some time and they really are not that expensive anymore. In fact many are cheaper than the Xbox One.

Maybe rather than buying a new console you should take that money and buy an LCD TV, all your 360 or PS3 games will look like you just got a next gen console.

Why would you need a new tv? Are you saying you don't have an HDTV yet? Just wondering. I cant even imagine not having an HDTV by now. I have had an HDTV since shortly after the 360 launched (2005) for the 360, hd movies, and eventually for the PS3 in blu ray.

If you don't have HD, you are TRULY missing out. No offense. Plus you can get HDTVs for very cheap. About $100.00 for a 19" hdtv or HD monitor. 32" HDTVs can be purchased for around $250+. I guess I don't understand how the X1 "requires a new tv".

Come on guys, some people don't feel compelled to go all HDTV just yet. Hadn't my sister not surprised me with mine, I would've been just fine with the one I had (even with the small issue of some text being unreadable).

This is just hilarious: http://uk.gamespot.com/twitter-battle/xbox-vs-ps4/

Look at Saudi Arabia, what's going on there? Wonder if Microsoft has had some financial 'influence', but those 'customers' are going to be in for a surprise if they can get hold of the Xbox one, because it's going to be one expensive paperweight for a good while yet in that region

Meanwhile, the rest of the poll is a complete landslide.

To be fair it's less than 40,000 people total, considering 160 millon PS3 & 360s were sold it's a pretty small demographic.

I mean I still think it'd be pretty similar if everyone were polled but still.

Far as I know, almost all polls and surveys that are used grab just a slither of the general populace, but I agree, especially with the ever more doom and gloom news for Microsoft and it's fans and the seeming fact over half of the world can't use an Xbox one until further notice, the poll would look pretty much the same.

Whip out Saudi Arabia's bizarre anomaly, and you have around a 3,000 Vs 26,000 ratio (11% Vs 89%). If I were the head of a company and saw a poll like that, I'd be bricking it right about now.

It would appear that Microsoft's suits have their heads so far up their own arses they are not aware of any problems.

@CAMAROBOY69 and HBR-Roadhog:
I've enjoyed some HD gaming here and there. It looks nice, but it's also frustrating. I still play on SDTV because I still play (old) games where timing matters. NES games on an HDTV will make you pull your hair out; it's astonishingly bad. Even Enthusia Professional Racing, a game from 2005, becomes noticably more difficult with the lag from an HDTV. Not acceptable, not for me.

When a friend brings Rock Band to my house, I have to go and uncalibrate the delay in the controls, because there is none! That fact is so much more valuable to me than HD resolutions. To my eyes, more pixels doesn't make something look more real, it just makes it look like it's made of smaller pixels. Illegible text is the only issue I've ever had in the HD age, so I have no compelling reason to upgade.

I have no noticable lag in my LCD nor my Plasma tvs and have used them both to play games with no issue, GT4 on the PS2 GT5 on the PS3, Forza 2,3,4 on the 360. I also have it connected to my PCs and have played a bunch of PC games on them with no issues at all.

I also have an HD projector system which does have a noticeable lag and causes issues with racing games. I have played Madden NFL on it without much problem, took a while to get the kicking right due to the lag but after a few kicks was not much of a problem.

It looked awesome playing Madden on the projector, HD with a screen 10 feet wide :)

FYI there are a lot of HDTVs out there with next to no input lag these days. Sure there are some with horrendously bad lag but if you shop around you'll find one that's great and not noticeable.

Plasma's pretty much don't have lag because they are flat CRT TV's.

I haven't seen an SDTV socket on the back of the PS4 yet, unless I'm missing something, so the PS4 will require an HDTV as well.

Jalopnik contributor gets thrown in "Microsoft jail" for taking pictures of a laptop inside a cabinet.

So basically he's in the Forza 5 demo area and notices that there are no XBone units anywhere. Wondering what all these demos are running on, he follows the cables to to a cabinet. The cabinet is open on the other side, and dark, so he takes pictures with the flash of his camera. What he sees is a laptop with a bunch of cables. Security then takes him to a small room and after some intimidation he decides to delete the photos so they'll leave him alone.

Why was Microsoft security and PR so worried about photos of a laptop in a cabinet? They said it was just running a looping video. So why were they concerned? Is it because that laptop wasn't actually running a looping video? Given the fact that there were no XBone units in sight and the cables led to this cabinet with a laptop in it, among others which presumably were the same, well, you guys can speculate all you want.

Maybe the laptop was a Macbook.
