@ race idiot: out of your list, only 3 are in newark and one is currently boarded up!
camping is not an option as we're in traveller land and your tent will be gone by the morning!
i can always provide 2 settees and a camp bed if anyone's desperate. i have put them in reserve for ash and mrs ash tho as i know funds for them are very dry and i didnt want any excuses!
you could maybe look at the grange hotel, but thats not close to cheap!
the Deincourt is a lovely place and although it says 0.66 miles, its actually 5 mins away from the Rutland.

you could try www.thegeorgiantownhousenewark.co.uk
or Compton house 01636 708670

think they cost bout £45 a night for a single room.
both of these are 5 minutes walk away from our location. 👍

Being an idle soul (aka up to my neck in tools and wood due to a DIY storm going on here :)), I haven't had time to read through the thread yet ... so I have a question.

The smaller events we've had before have been relatively well behaved affairs on the track, with a minimal amount of barging, ramming and shunting (once it became clear that I can become unreasonably stroppy if people drive like they're playing GTA rather than GT).

Can we look forward to similarly well mannered driving in a larger event ... assuming Wastegate doesn't return to the GT fold in a blaze of late braking ?

Yes. I was the biggest culprit at the last one - overestimating the braking power of a TVR Tuscan and taking everyone out at New York. Though I then sat back and allowed everyone to pass me again, because I felt like an absolute penis.

Almost everyone on the guest list has come to a UKGTP before - the exceptions being Swift, Diego and any Belgians we get. With so many of us keen for clean racing, anyone who behaves like a gimp is badly outnumbered. And that's just by daan.

I will personally guarantee clean racing - and I have a nurse coming who will assist in the castration of anyone who makes that guarantee void.

You didn't drive last time, which would be an even better way of staying safe...

I hope you'll participate this time...

With deep thanks for the good natured assurances, I reckon you can count me in - I'll just bring along a sword or two to assist the nurse in any required, erm, 'trimming'.

I don't know for which days yet tho' and accomodation is going to be an important factor ... especially when it comes to getting together for a few post race shandies and general shooting of the breeze.

As to kit, if Lady S decides not to come then I won't be able to bring any tele's as my little Nissan Midlifecrisis won't hold one :embarrassed:. However, I can bring many DS2's (four or five), a couple of DFP's (one a bit knackered after a session of my losing my temper with the AI), a couple of copies of GT4 (if required), a pair of old-school PS2's and a couple of sets of headphones.

Who's got the big room at the Rutland Arms with 4 beds?
Can I offer a deal for the Sunday night? ;)
I'll pay for that room if I can have a bit of floor space for my sleeping bag! :D
How does that sound?

Is it possible to connect enough PS2's or is this a limited thing? Don't know how to put.

With all the people coming this time, they will have to wait in line to race.
- Famine, did you work out a nice strategy to unsure that everybody can race at least once?

01636 708670 => calling from Belgium to England: 0044/1636 708670. Is this correct?

In theory, you can connect as many PS2's together as you want, but in Gran Turismo you can only have 6 people in any one race at a time anyway... I think the plan this time is to have 2 lots of 6 PS2's connected so there will be two separate LAN's/races possible at any one time. Even with 24 people present, this would mean that everybody could race every second race - trust me, you'll be thankful for the break after some of these races!!

At the moment we have only 8 networkable PS2's, so we need atleast 4 more... but even with just one LAN of 6 PS2's and 18 people, you'd still get to race every third race.

Remember that there will probably be atleast one PS3 and Xbox360 there too, for those in-between race times!!

P.S. If I ask very nicely, there is a chance that I can get my hands on a second networkable PS2, but it is a long shot, since I am already pushing my luck borrowing one (for the 3rd time in 12 months!!) but I will try...

I think I going to try the Georgian town house. Looks nice. Still not sure if I can make though. Sorry for that.

Call me Belgian you cheeky begger. ;)

Rubbings racing ;)

I just calculated travel costs :) (or :( because it isn't cheap)
€170,34 (£115,43) without the cost of the metro in london.
(includes return)

I've decided that i'm going to return on Tuesday, so that i can go karting/paintballing with you all on monday. (is that decided yet?)

I'm still not sure if we're doing an activity or just some more racing on the Monday.

It might be an idea to keep it open for either. There's going to be what something like 20 people there? Inevitably some will be late, add to that something breaking down, etc.

DS2s...

They are the pads right? I've got 1 official and an unofficial one (a blue thing) they both work I could bring both if needed. I could also bring a PS2toTV cable (if you understand what I mean).

Also...

When Roo (and I) arrive you're going to ask end up asking him if he's had his mini lowered. Yeh that'll scare him!

A (short) list of what i can definitely bring:
- 1x PSTwo
- 3x DS2's
- 2x GT4

I could maybe bring my dfp, but i can only test that if i bought a suitcase.

Nice to see such enthusiasm.

Any questions that need answering in a shorter time than a thread takes...

And yes kikie, thats 00447880532177 to you.

I will attempt to provide taxi runs as will other attendees whenever needed during the weekend, so no fears wherever your hotel is, with the exception of G.T. as im not goin to thrussington.
If anyone can convince Dave George to come, then he can give you a lift back, as he has to drive past Thrussington to get home at nite.
Im assuming i should be able to attend all three days, and bring my rig, with up to two extra tv's if needed, one gt4, ps2, etc. upto 3 cards.

Will check back soon, its looking very promising tho....

:irked:👍

Yeah! More racing! ;) Gets my vote!

Anyone willing to "sell" me some floor space for the Sunday night in the Rutland Arms? Cash or bottle of Duty-Free Whiskey?!!! :P

This is going to rule! :D

I'm astonished by the number of people who've said they can and definitely WILL attend. I mean, we've got 21 people listed above (Jeff is a common friend of GTPlant, Blacksheep and I) and they're ALL coming. None of the usual umming and ahhing...

I can reasonably accommodate 22 people on 12 machines - for the pick'n'mix races, 24 on 12 consoles is fine (in fact ANY number really - it'll just take longer), but the ladder/handicap system is slightly different. I might be able to work something else out though which will allow more people.

I'm taken aback. I SO am.

Captain Obvious has something to say:

One whole LAN series = 6 people
Two LAN series = 12 people

If we're more than 20, wouldn't we need three LANs to accomodate us all?

I've not seen the Captain around lately.

6 people playing every race requires 1 LAN. However, 1 LAN can also serve as many people as possible, but practically-speaking up to 11. We've had 14 people on one, in fact, and it was still workable. Last time out we had 10 on the six machines and it was perfectly serviceable and no-one got too bored.

I have worked out a solution for 22 people on 2 LANs where everyone gets to drive at least every other race and doesn't end up racing the same people every time. It's quite ingenious, even if I do say so myself.

I'm just idly curious how many nationalities we've got coming... English, Scottish, Belgian, Spanish, American... Anything else?
