I just wanna make it clear that the new GT-R is NOT a Skyline. Nissan officially ditched the "Skyline" name for this (or may be future) generation. Call it GT-R, call it R35 but dont' call it skyline. ;)

It's still based on a Skyline platform (even though it's a heavely evolved one), still uses the ATTESA-ETS, and uses a derivative of the Skyline engine. And it's probably not an R35 since we're on the V36 platform already.

It is only related to V36 but it is its own chassis. The production chassis code is CBA-R35 and Nissan stopped using the word "Skyline" internally and externally on the latest GT-R. I reported it on my blog a month ago when I released the catalog scans direct from Japan of a person who pre-ordered it.

Calling it the Skyline V36 would mean a totally different car.

By the way, that is how Nissan Japan, the Japanese media and public refer to it, I didn't make it up myself.

I never said that it's a V36. What I said is that it's probably not a R35 since it's based off the evolved V36 chassis. But I guess they're still calling it the R35. Oh, and what I meant is, even though they stopped using the Skyline name, it still is an evolved Skyline (just like the previous GT-Rs), like it or not.

i wish you could use the h-shift in the lexus and daihatsu. Suppos it's a bit hard when the G25 is only a 6 speed but the lexus is and 8 speed lol.

The Subaru is awesome.

The STI's power band is messed up, IMO.

Short shift at 7k-7.5K you will get better lap times. The power band actually begins at a much lower rpm, and it drops off significantly after 7.5k. At higher speed, if you wait for it to hit 8k before you shift, you are wasting a lot of time. ;)

Yep, that does suck. I don't know why the Impreza's are like that, my WRX feels anemic above 6-6.5k (redlines at 7k), but redlining is still the fastest way to 60. On a road course, you're very right about short shifting.

Late model JDM STi has an equal lenght header. So, not so much rumble sound in real life.

As for the powerband, I think it's nice to have some head room to go in some situation. Sometimes you don't want to up shift just to down shift again b/c upshifting take some time and also some concentration. You're right though. My Impreza does the same thing. Faster to shift earlier.

I just did my personal 2 lap best time in that class with the STI and S1 in 4 corners. I can see a significant drop off in pace when shifting at 7.5k vs 7k.

The STI is simply too easy to drive and is very forgiving.

So Rocket Punch, between the Evo X and the STI, which do you think handles better or gives you better lap times?

On another note, I don't have any of you on my buddy list. For being avid GT fans, anyone feel like sharing?

A big thank you to all of you guys for providing us PS3-less people out there with all the up-to-date info on the demo. Looks great, I think I may need to borrow my friends' and get this. He said he doesn't use it too often anyways!

Good luck with that Slip!

I personally like the STI, it may be easy to drive but the four wheel drive system does make a difference and it has alot of power out of the corners, which I like. :D

Lexus IS-F = The suckiest piece of suck that ever sucked.

Why did PD make this car so awful? It accelerates like a freight train, understeers like a school bus, stops on a dime like an oil tanker and oversteers like a Ferrari on wet ice without traction control. Why? They hate Lexus for some reason?

The only time you get ahead with this car is after you've reached 200kmh, and that's when this car handles like a Ferrari on wet ice. The sluggish acceleration is just horrible. Cars behind almost pass you by! That NEVER happens with the other cars in the game. And I figured a car with so much understeer and such sluggish acceleration should at least have minimal oversteer during acceleration. This one car is scaring me that the rest of the game is going to be this bad. Yikes.

Oh, I'm using the controller. I figure this car is easier to handle with the wheel.

Besides the Need For The Wheel, you may also condsider the tyre compound - this baby will come with expensive semi-sports tyres able to handle power, torque and weight - Bridgestone Potenza or Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 (225/40R19 93Y front — 255/35R19 96Y rear) - both specially built for IS-F performance.

In short: for true representation of IS-F drive on S2 (maybe even S3, but S3 are semi-slick, so it is not stock-spec compound), since S1 or Nx compounds are just not elligible for decent simulation of handling in Professional Mode.

IS-F is very special baby, I like it very much.

Uh... or that the Lexus IS-F is not at all what you expected it or want it to be, and you won't likely rush out and buy one. :)

Personally, while I am not fan of Lexus cars in terms of racing performance, I do admire them for their reasonably priced luxury, superb fit & finish, and extraordinary reliability. 👍

I kind of feel like the IS-F is just a little out of its league racing against ferrari's and GT-R's. I mean in reality, aren't those cars significantly faster?

I think just like that. It isn't a car to compete with Ferrari F430 and Nissan GT-R, It's to compete with BMW M3 and Audi RS4.

Didn't know it's that fast.

The Lexus certainly can drift...But I am yet to come in the top 3 with it...I think it is more of a "Watch Me Slide!" car rather than a car to race hard.

Well, every class will have a stronger and a weaker entry, the IS-F is certainly one of the weaker in that class even though spec for spec that is where that car belongs.

In actual, the Lexus was never meant to be driven without TC and ESC on, as by default the car has an undefeatable TC and ESC system (yes, there is a way to hack it using some control sequences). So, If you wanna talk about realistic driving and all, driving the IS-F in game without using the TC & ESC would be unrealistic, IMO.

I think he was referring to the Ferrari F430, and how it isn't in the same class as the M3 or Audi RS4, but without him specifying the model, it's easy to think he was referring to the Lexus, as that's the current topic of discussion.

No, he was talking about the Lexus IS-F, because the Ferrari F430 doesn't have a V10 it has a V8.

I also first thought that lexus in game is LF-A, the one with 500Hp V10. I had not seen photos of LF-A unmasked by then.
LF-A:

Likely LF-A is also in GT5.
