Update 4/3/06 My official comp stats post 95!!!(It was the crappy Celeron processor!)

If you're happy with a $60 system, thats cool. I'm a bit of an audiophile so I just had to recommend those speakers. ;)

Oh trust me I am sure I will not be happy with a $60.00 system. I am extremely anal when it comes to how a stereo sounds in my car, my game room, anywhere. I never met anyone in my life that just cant quit messing with the settings on stereo components. It drives my GF nuts. Right in the middle of a move or game I will say "hey do you hear that I think the volume on the left front speaker went down a little" Then I will be messing with it until its perfect again. Electronic stores hate me. Sometimes I return 2 or 3 products until I am happy. If I dont get goose bumps cranking a stereo then it goes back. :sly: You should see me with car stereos, my god I am picky! I went thru 4 sets of subs for my daily driver and 2 boxes until I found the perfect subs which ended up being Polk Momo subs in a sealed box. Perfect for any type of music in a car. I could go on forever but you get the point. :)

No, that's what 5.1/7.1 surround sound is for. :D

If you're gonna buy headphones and you game a lot, I'd suggest those new fangled 5.1 virtual surround headphones. I've heard some of the newer models are actually quite good. 👍

A good set of cans are better than the "surround" headphones.

By far...

And yes, i know Jarrett. Mine are for loud, high intensity rock music. w00t w00t w00t.

Seeing as Pako recommended the Logitech X-230s earlier, I'm going to go ahead and mention the X-530s. I have a set of these, which I got on some kind of special discount (forget why) for around $55.

Out of the box, they sound pretty good. They're lacking just a bit on the high end, and low-mids are a little muddy, however this is due to the "all range" drivers they used, and the sub trying to compensate for the inabilities the speakers have in the lower range. With a little corrective EQing, however, they're darn hard to beat for the price.

Actually the surround headphones are quite good. For gaming that is. Music, no. Gaming, yes.

Wow what a busy weekend!! Never even had a chance to get on and post any info of the new PC.
PC UPDATE:
The case is awesome looking. Everything is lit up blue and there are green, orange and other colored compnoents inside. The Pc worked real well but had a problem that took some time to diagnose. Long story short the new video card was defective and was only working at about 80% of its potential. It was the first time I ever saw FEAR with everything set on the highest quality. Even with the bad video card it hit over 135FPS max in FEAR. I guess it is going to be even better when I get another video card. I have at least 20-30 pics that I will try to get up today. The temperature gauge on the front case never went above 82%F degrees. It usually stayed around 75%F
SURROUND SOUND UPDATE:
I started with the $80.00 5.1 Logitec surround sound. Sounded loud but not that good. I was also not able to adjust the volume on each speaker individually which is a must for me. Not happy with it. So with that said I will be returning these and try the $200.00 5.1 Logitec THX set. I wont quit until im happy.

You get what you pay for, but on the adjusting speakers individually note, can you not do that from your sound card control? Like the software panel volume.

I could not find any settings anywhere that would allow me to control the 5.1 speakers. I looked in each game too and none of the games that I have give the option to adjust them. half life 2, age of empires 3, FEAR, Yuris revenge etc. The $200 has an adjustment right on a knob so I wont even have to mess with the PC at all. I can just turn the knob and adjust the volume on each speaker.
I will try to get pics up around lunch time.

Nice! Let me know how those new speakers workout, as I may have to splurge just a bit on some. :D

Glad to hear your systems up and running, can't wait to see the pics!

You might have missed it above but my video card was defective and I have to return it. This means my pc will be down for probably another week. :ouch: I will still get some of the pics up. :)

Sounds like a nice compy, I want to build one myself but:

1. Don't have any money
2. Wouldn't even know how to put it together.

Yeah, that might get in the way.

Congrats on the new computer, CAMAROBOY. Can't wait to see the pics. 👍

45 pics from beginning of build process to end. The first pic is a really good one I found online.

Here is the build process.

T/Y I can't wait until I actually get to play it. :) I played AO3 last night with Heather but like I said above, the new video card was defective and wasnt working properly. Hopefully by next week I will be all set. 👍

Nice setup, lookin' all fancy and such there with all the glowing lights and stuff.... 👍 Looks cool, glad you like the setup (less the defective video card).

I got my xs-250 Speakers today, and for $35 they can't be beat but the longing for THX 5.1 is beckoning me. Oh yes, looks like I have GAS again (Gear Acquisition Syndrome).

So another full week of waiting for you....that must hurt. Do you go on turn on the case for time to time just to see it glow? The local shop that I buy my stuff from was nice enough to lend me a 6600GT PCI-e card since and I only have extra AGP cards laying around. One of the advantages of buying from a small local shop. :)

 and have fun!

Quick question computer building braniacs. Can I get a new mobo with the same case? I have a610y HP case, I'm assuming not but I might as well ask.

CB: Kickass compy!!!!

Actually, you more than likely can get new guts for your case. Most PC manufactures us a flavor of mATX, which is a standardized form factor.

Then again, I can't guarentee anything without seeing your case, and I would question a few things such as PSU size, so on so fourth.

Then again, new cases are only like $40-$50 for a decent one.

VIDEO CARD UPDATE: 3/27/06
As some of you might have known my 1st video card was defective. I was only running around 60fps in the Counterstrike video stress test. So we sent that one back and got another one. The 2nd one arrived and I installed it and it also seemed to be defective. Only 55FPS in counterstrike. Sooooo we are trying a different name brand to see what happens. It is sitting right next to me at work right now. When I get home I will be installing it. He installed and tested it on his own computer and it was running over 120fps in counterstrike. I will install it tonight on mine and I should be at least 125+fps. If it runs 60fps then something is wrong with this PC.

Damn, i hope everything works out. This must be frustrating. Maybe something is wrong with the motherboard? Why would the card get better FPS on a different PC, thats weird. Good luck!
No you misunderstood. He just tested this NEW video card on his PC over the weekend and got 120fps in CS. I need to install it into mine tonight to make sure mine will also get at least 120fps in CS. You should correct your reply to avoid confusing anyone. :)

The suspense must be killing you?
Yes indeed it is. However I did find out something cool about this video card. If I am not mistaken it looks like I can hook my PS2, xbox, or any other component directly to the video card to make videos and take pics. Right now I use Dazzle and its great for videos but not so good for pics. This video card even has the HDTV Component cable input so mabey I can get some HDTV videos. Hopefully I am reading this correctly.

That would be cool! Might want to consider more storage space if your going to start capturing HD. :) Turn your PC into a Tivo.

Most videos I record, I usually delete right away. However this computer will have 200gb of space so I cant even imagine coming close to filling that. :dunce: I think I only used 15gb-20gb on our other computer after a year. Thats even including Solid works, Autocad, and everything else. I try to clean everything off that I dont need.

Uncompressed video at 640x480 (not even close to HD resolution) is ruffly at 12.5gb's per hour. I might take a look to see what HD compression for those resolutions would be. Seems I've seen some 2-2.5 hour HD movies only being around 6gb's or so which isn't too bad.
