Good racing fellas. I have been experimenting a bit with tuning. Mostly camber, toe and LSD and gearing. I put together a little tune for the Lotus 49 for Rennstrecke and it's attached below. Couple of notes. The engine limiter is turned up. This is good and bad. Good that you get more power, bad that you can't rev it quite as high as you can without it on, and avoid damage. When you practice, practice with damage to learn the best shift point without damaging the engine. The gearing is taller than it needs to be for that reason as well.

Second, a light brake foot is required with this car IMO and you should use light braking and a slightly earlier turn in that you would in a modern car as it's a little more sluggish to respond and wants to be driven with a decent slip angle. Load up the fronts with the brakes, turn slightly and a little early and the back end will come around nicely. It still understeers under mild throttle but again, if you have the control you can bring the back end around by a quick stab of the throttle in 2nd and sometimes third gear.

You can use this tune by doing the following.

Unzip the file. You can try using Windoze but I use 7Zip and it's never failed me.

After it's unzipped, copy and paste to your clipboard and then deposit it here:

Main Drive:/Libraries/Documents/Assetto Corsa/Setups/Car/Track

Note: This is not the x86 file that the main game is contained in, it's a separate set of files that should have been set up on your PC on your main drive when you installed the game. Mine looks like this on Windoze 7:

Let me know if this helps.

Very tough, fast but fun track! Seemed like basically a clean race (a fair amount of 'enthusiasm' at the start though ;) ).

I'm new to AC so wondering if there is a way to see a real-time readout of the interval between the car in front and behind while racing. It's really hard to judge whether to let it all hangout or race conservatively.

Well, I had a great time. Thanks to all who participated, and Congratulations to JP on the win. (3:33.xxx is blazing fast)

There is it shows up on the bottom of my screen, there is a way to cycle it on/off and different modes also.

It was enjoyable granted i did not complete many laps but i did spent few laps watching @Johnnypenso and the lines he took. Which allowed me to get a semi clean lap of a 3.58. hower the lotus feels very different to the project cars one. i was quick on the fast bits though no breaking just a slight lift and sliding at 160mph! I look forward to the next one.

I don't think that is supported yet in AC but I could be wrong. I have the DashMeterPro and it's not supported that I can see. All you get is what's at the bottom which is lap by lap from the finish line.

I gave her the beans a bit in the last lap and made it into the 32's:crazy:

Can you tell us what the difference is? I've seen the 49 in a couple of PCars videos and the handling looked quite similar, at least based on the video:dopey:

Hey Guys, can't join today , but next sunday I definetly join.
fits perfect in my time zone.
Do I need some extra programs ( teamspeak, mumble, etc?)
I did some mp races today and the chat function isn't really useful yet.
also I need to know the race specs.

we're running either the vette prototype or the oreca? thing.
at salzburgring 17laps ?
do I have to sign up somewhere and are there mandatory pit stops ?
oh and for those who want a relative timer like in Iracing , here's a link.
i'm using it and it works pretty good.

press f9 key to get the interval between the car in front and behind while racing, but it only refreshes at the start/finish line every lap, which is not a bad idea, like that you are not tempted to keep checking the gap during the lap and possibly be distracted.

With triple screens its about useless because it is spread across the bottom of all 3 screens. I always hit something before I can find what Im looking for, so I just turn it off. :indiff:

I dislike that too. It also puts the damage indicator all the way on the far left side of my left screen so I have to completely turn my head to see it (meaning eyes are off the road). Kinda sucks, I end up not even paying attention to it.

It's fairly easy to move.

Navigate to assettocorsa/system/cfg folder and open damage_displayer.ini Change the X & Y values around until you get it where you want it.

You can also change the size of it rather easily as well. To do that navigate to the assettocorsa/content/texture/damage folder and resize all pictures in there. They're all 512 x 512 by default. I changed mine to 256 x 256 if I remember correctly. If anyone decides to do this, just make sure they get saved in the same format, which is .png

Keep in mind that if you ever need to run a Steam integrity check for the game, all of the above will be reset.

I took a quick look to see if the F9 leaderboard thing could be altered but didn't find anything. That one might not be able to be changed.

Don't think I'll be doing any of that. This group is the only time I encounter damage, and if I happen to damage something I'll just glance over. If you get damage your race is finished anyway, don't really need an indicator to tell which exact part has ended my race. (Also, if you touch a blade of grass your race is finished, stupid penalties).

That one I'm not bothered about, that thing is so obnoxious I just leave it disabled. I have another app that shows my position and my session delta, that's sufficient. 👍

Is it possible to attach your rescaled files so we can copy and paste it?:sly:

Kind of a late reply but I want to thank Johnnypenso for the setup and KingKlingeling for the relative time app link. I didn't see the setup before the race but tried it out afterward -- it failed to convert me to super stardom but I'll sure use it to get setup ideas from. I suspect your amazing low 3:30's lap times have more to do with your martian-like skill level than setup.

The relative time app is exactly what I was looking for (one that's like the real-time relative timer in iRacing). Unfortunately, I couldn't get it to work so I finally gave up and removed the files. As I was doing this I found a zip file (python33) in my AC folder. I couldn't see a need for a compressed file in there so I took it out. This caused the game to fail to load my car. I put the zip file back in and all is well again. I couldn't understand how a compressed file could have any effect so I repeated taking it out / putting it back a couple more times with the same result. Weird...!

Yeah, he's even faster in AC than he was in Gran Turismo. I was almost 10 seconds per lap slower than him in the Lotus, talk about depressing. :(

I think much of it has to do with adapting to the different physics of the older cars. The 49 tends to understeer on entry if you just turn the wheel and I was missing a lot of apexes at first. Now I brake mostly in a straight line and at the last second give it a bit of steering angle and the front end bites much better and you can better rotation and slip angle from the chassis which increases cornering and exit speed. I also turn a bit earlier than is instinctive because the car is more sluggish to respond. If you just try to steer your way around corners like in a modern race car you end up plowing a lot and kill your exit speeds. Of course this isn't every corner, mostly the faster ones of say 90 degrees or less but that's most corners at Solitude. It takes some practice and it's hard to get the hang of it but once it clicks it's like magic.

@GMC503

short how to for the realtive app 👍

download from the link, unzip the file with 7zip or similar.
you'll get this

image.jpg

with that included

image.jpg

put it into that folder...

image.jpg

Go into AC and activate it like that...

image.jpg

Go on track and activate it on the right toolbar 👍 sorry forgot the pic:banghead:

then it will look this

image.jpg

I hope that helps 👍

as you see 2 pics above I turned AC into an Iracing clone :D with relative, spotter and delta bar.
It's great what some people doing on this PC wonderland

You were almost 5 seconds a lap faster than me in the modern Camaro GT3 and an even larger gap in the Oreca. :sly: I also hated the FFB in the Lotus 49, tiny bit of understeer and the wheel just goes completely limp in your hand (like someone tripped over the power cord and unplugged it). Granted, I play AC very little so every time I turn it on I kinda have to re-learn and adapt to it and that's not a very efficient way to be fast. I know I'm rubbish, I'm just a bit more rubbish than I though. :dunce:

You were right there with me in the Ginetta a couple of weeks ago. Must just be your lack of familiarity with the game. You need to play more:lol: Join me at CMS for the NSX race this weekend! We/they had 19 entries in the Fiat Abarth race last weekend.

I think the CMS NSX race is Februrary 10th, the Fiat 500 race was a total blast, car on my nose and/or bumper the whole race!

Nah, I was just holding you up, if you'd been able to get around me you would have been gone. I was closer to the pace in the Ginetta though, only 1-2 seconds off the pace which is about where I expect to be. And yes, it's partly because I'm not very familiar with the game (and know nothing about tuning) or how it drives. I don't have any confidence to push the cars hard so I don't get near the limits. And I can't feel the little nuances you described with the Lotus so I don't adapt to them.

Here you go. All should be 256 x 256 except for one, which is 128 x 128. I recommend making a backup of the existing files first, in case you don't like it or if something goes wrong.

Thank you so much KingKlineling! 👍

The relative app works great. This will really help -- especially at the really long tracks like Solitude and the Nordschleife. I now have the spotter pack working too, thanks to your help.

What was confusing me was all of the folders within folders of the same name in the download.

Did you have to do anything special to get the spotter to work? Do you find it pretty accurate?

Spotter works pretty good , but I recommend the alternitive voice pack.
The only thing not so good is , the spotter also calls out the cars in the pits.
Slow car ahead, right side,clear.
but it's adjustable, although it seems a bit complicated, for me at least.

I'll have to check out the other voice pack. Hopefully it uses uses lots of foul language :P

The spotter installs and activates the same way KingKlingeling explained above for the relative app -- nothing special required to get it working. As he says, there are a million things to adjust if you think it could be more accurate but it seems to work very well out of the box. Just as in iRacing, I use it more to verify that the car that disappeared behind me is truly in my blind spot and didn't fall off the track along the way (as I'd hoped ;) ).
