VCRC vintage & low power :: Sunday 3pm GMT / 10am US EST

My issue is when 4 blue lines are in front of me with their names hovering over top and they block my view of the upcoming corner(s) and cause me to miss my preferred line through the corner. This was especially an issue at the corkscrew at Laguna Seca this past weekend, I couldn't see the track at all when 4 ghost cars went down it in front of me because their names completely blocked the view of the descending track.
That could be an issue.

I completely see your point Brandon and like I said I could be completely wrong but I'm just giving you my opinion and what I think about it. I completely respect your opinion on the matter. Reading your previous post Brandon, I can totally see that being a problem especially around the corkscrew.

Sorry, not trying to be an a-hole about it or anything (my posts may have come across like that). Most of the time the ghost lines aren't an issue but they can really block your view of the track which is why I have a problem with them. Sure, in 15 minutes of qualifying you should be able to find a clean piece of track to get a good lap or two in, but the whole point of "race alone" is that you shouldn't have to worry about that. So they gave us a nice feature and have now damaged its usability.

In all honesty I'm not a fan of the "race alone/qualifying" feature for several reasons but it is the SOP for the group so we'll stick with it unless/until there's some sort of revolt.

You aren't sounding rude and you know what you make great points. It kind of defeats the point of race alone I agree and I liked it better before but I'm just saying that it wasn't all that bad on Sunday at least for me. You are the host though Brandon so you can do it race alone or with others. It doesn't bother me much.

I second this!

And i'm gonna check if i can optimize my connection with PSN / GT gameservers to see if that helps...

I agree with Brandon's take on this^^^^^ The blue-lines could be a useful feature during qualifying, but they should be something that could be turned off if so desired.

As an alternative, you can also slow waaay down during qualifying to make sure that everyone's blue-lines are far/far out in front and then you can have a nice comfortable qualifying lap.:):D

Check out my Qualifying time for the Isuzu Bellett race. I had the Motegi track to myself as I traversed the track with my smoking Q-lap:)

See you on the tracks!

This looks great but i'm gonna save my entry until later, I applied for a job and it might interfere with this.
Happy racing.

We'd be happy to have you bud! You're on my list so if you ever see the room open feel free to jump in (with the appropriate car and tires of course). 👍

Always good racing here, I'm never able to show up as much as I'd like - but when I do it's always top-notch stuff.

the 2002 turbo requires a bit throttle control but is a great car and easier then the lotus elan we drove on the warrius zero cup

I gave it another go tonight, I had more problems with braking and coasting than throttle. In wheel input when you're braking or coasting and you end up with the wrong way forward.

But..................

I upgraded it to SH tires and hooned it around Nurb GP/F and it was marvelous! Still loose and twitchy but doesn't try to kill you when you touch the slow pedal. It went from being frustrating to being one of my favorites in the game!

So if nobody is strongly opposed we'll take the BMW 2002 Turbo '73 on sports hard tires to it's native Deutschland for a race around the full GP circuit this Sunday. 👍

I would love to drive this car/track combo ,although I had not much time there (countless hours at the vettel challenge in gt5 though:D)
I will probably do a "full manual" ( clutch ) race again but that really depends on lap times :odd:
one thing is for sure :
I hope this is not one of @LongbowX "better" tracks like laguna seca .
I'm still shocked from that qualifying time and race pace :nervous:
really ,really fast
too bad I can't start practising till friday:irked:

It was an anomaly, I assure you.

To be honest, Nurb GP is one of my worst tracks. I have never gotten Dunlop Kehre right...ever probably. I will probably not do this event because I also don't enjoy the track very much! To me, each are independent things. There are tracks I don't like but still drive well at them (like Laguna!).

BMW 2002 on nurb GP? Why not the full nordschleife? :D:D I love that track, but don't get me wrong, i love the GP version as well!

We did the Nord a little while back with the Bertone but we haven't been to the GP circuit recently. I'm trying to avoid repeating tracks if possible but I will have to start recycling them eventually. 👍

If we do this on nordshleife then I'm not gonna race be able to race this thing on nordshleife I still haven't completely memorized the track yet although I'm getting close.

OMG when did this craziness happen????

That sounds like a nightmare.

Has it been tested and only in "race alone"?

IF so, I say turn it the heck off until they fix that. Who's with me?

 I haven't tested it much but I think it's only in Race Alone. The only way to get rid of them is to do it where all the other cars are visible.

Over a 15 minute qualifying, the lines and names are less of an issue. The alternative is qualifying with other cars which may or may not be distracting, but can also impede your way for multiple reasons. I don't like the lines and names but I personally would rather not be potentially impeded.

In a 15 minute qualifying session everybody should have plenty of time to get at least a couple of unimpeded laps in (except for a few select tracks). Plus these races are supposed to somewhat recreate the experience of a real race (heavy damage, rain), in real qualifying there are other cars on track and part of that experience is dealing with traffic and finding yourself a clean bit of track to get your laps in.

Yes, of course. Still, there's no predicting a car spun out in your path, etc. If they were supposed to recreate the experience of a real race than it should never have been set to qualify alone. Either way is fine of course, I just put being unimpeded as a higher priority in my mind.

I agree with both points.

But I do heavily lean toward @BrandonW77 's point of view about the real thing... sort of.

Well, more specifically about in real life there not being lines in the road with names on them.

And to address @LongbowX 's point about a real race never being set to qualify alone... I was never keen on race alone for qualifying. But saw it mainly as a way to keep peace & not have to make an effort to organize qualifying. And thereby speed up the process. (Because to me it's all about spending the max amt. of time actually racing. :D)

In the sense of the "real race" ... well I wasn't thinking of it in that sense.
I mean technically a real race could have people qualify one by one... like in Autocross. Just that the game allows you to do it all at the same time one by one. ;)

But I was thinking of it in the sense that it was a real race. I was thinking of it in the sense of feeling real. And let's face it, you'd never see those lines in reality. Well not unless someone thinks that's such a great idea they come up with a way for google glass to provide it for you or something... but I'm thinking most would not really think that was such a great idea.

Yes you both do have points that I agree with and because of that I don't really know who's side to take. I decide to take neither side because I will be ok with either option.

Of course I would rather there be a way to not have lines and names but apparently they love them lines with names at PD. :P

I wouldn't exactly put this as a "taking sides" sort of thing, it's not really that big of a deal.

Here's my thoughts.

1. You can turn names off by going to watch race, clicking the gear and toggling it to off.

2. From my experience, be prepared for people to take advantage of the draft. On purpose or coincidentally. When you're on a really good lap and you come up on someone, it's hard for anyone to back out.

I'm good with either option and will do my best to be on grid Sunday 👍

That only works for when your watching a race or a replay though, not during qualifying, correct?

I don't think so. Pretty sure it turns names off for qualifying and for the race. I honestly don't remember for sure, but I have names off and I don't remember seeing the names during our qualifying on Tuesday night.

After racing without names, I've gotten used to the cleaner look. It's nice to have a little extra space to see around and over someone you're behind. I depend a lot on visual queues when racing and when sight lines are blocked I tend to get very conservative. Even dropping back so I can see where I'm going.

I race with the drivers list up, it's off to the side and not really in the way, so I know who's immediately in front and behind.

To each their own 👍
