One more question, what tire compound are you all running?
I was thinking of throwing on the racing softs, because they (at least compared to the cars I've driven) feel like the slicks run in SCCA, but if you want a less grippy tire I'm happy to run it.

Send friend req via PSN, we use race softs, and it's too far into the season for any new cars to be allowed, but there is an abundance of cars to chose from in group 2 I'm sure you'll find one you like

Welcome aboard JLawrence. There actually is no tire restrictions. Put whatever tires you want on there. I know some people like to put a harder compound on the front tires to correct massive oversteer. The last week we are doing a 20 lapper @ laguna seca. I don't know how long softs will last there.

I did some offline practice recently. I did really good. I was beating my best lap times by almost a second at laguna. I even did a 1.09.56x at deep forest with the Z28-RM. I credit most of that to offline physics though.

Now my delema is, there's a car I really want in the used car dealer (bottom of the list now), but I don't have enough CR's. However, my online bob's have plenty, but they are all stuck online.

I've been concerned about the "Bank of Bob" myself. Had about 8 mil sitting in Bob's wallet, really hoping it's still there...
What car is it your contemplating?

I think I've settled on the Le Mans GTO for group two. I have a friend that has a beautiful machine with a 404 that he runs with us alot.

And I'm totally fine with waiting till next season. I'd hate to mess up your rankings and whatnot. When do you suppose that will be?

Your more then welcome to join in this season, nobody really takes the points too seriously, we are all pretty much here for clean racing in some cars we really love. We just don't want to introduce new cars that are not from our original eligible list, more participants are welcome in the cars we've agreed upon. It will actually be nice to see a GTO in the field

Well then, if I can ever get back online I'll be sure to join!
And I was joking about the Ginetta, it certainly doesn't meet the Trans-Am criteria

Is anyone willing to share their GT350R tune with me? If so I can share my 66' Cobra tune in this forum for everyone. I am really having trouble making that 350R handle but I got the Cobra pretty much perfect. Also I have a few questions. How many people are participating in these races? Also is there a wide veriety of cars or is everyone using the RM cars?

I can appreciate a fellow Shelby fan! I'd be interested to see what you have got for a Cobra tune, because I feel very much the same about mine ;)

I have yet to get a hold of a GT350, but vintage cars are my specialty, and I can come up with something for you asap when I finally find one!

So here's my Cobra tune:
Ride Height: -20 -20
Spring Rate: 8.5 7.6
Dampers(ext.): 4 4
Dampers(comp.): 4 4
Anti-Roll Bars: 5 5
Camber Angle(-): 1.5 1.0
Toe Angle: 0.05 0.30
...............................
LSD Settings:
Initial Torque: 15
Accel. Sensibility: 50
Braking Sensibility: 10
I really hope this tune helps all you Cobra owners out there and to JLawrence thanks for the help with the GT350R tune! I really am obsessed with making these old cars perform.

. . . Also I have a few questions. How many people are participating in these races? Also is there a wide veriety of cars or is everyone using the RM cars?

So far, 18 different people have participated... About 8-10 are still active. As of last race anyway. We have seen a good variety cars, but now its mostly Z28-RM & Challenger-RM in the G1 class; 69 corvette convertible & 69 Z28 in the G2 class. There is a couple others as well. Looks like there are a few more Ford guys joining in. Looking forward to seeing what they can bring.

Might as well break down the manufacturers win totals to this point.

Group 1 (after 5 races)

Corvette Z06 race car--- 2 wins (3 Poles)
Challenger-RM-------------2 wins (1 pole)
Z28-RM--------------------1 win (1 pole)

Group 2 (after 4 races)

Z28--------------------------3 wins (2 poles)
69 corvette convertible ----1 win (2 poles)

Kal, I am officially jealous. The pics are great, but, I can only imagine the musical symphony coming out of the back (or sides) of those things, great stuff thanks for sharing.

Oh yes. Some people had ear plugs in, I did not. Even while in the Pits and work areas listing to them(crew) work on them it was just like a river of gold flowing into your ears. Nothing like an exhaust note that thumps so nicely, you can feel it in your heart.

I am going to be honest, I haven't really played GT5 much at all since the online went down. I need to get back into it if we are to race again.

Although, Now that I've officially driven on a track, I feel like I have been stung, and constantly need the antidote.

Honestly, I say screw the antidote and get into more racing. I grew up at the track, but it wasn't until my dad's friend let me borrow his car for a DE test day that I really fell in love with it. What were you driving there?

Pictures are a few posts back, but I drove my personal car 93' Vision ESi. I've done several Autocrossings and plan on getting into again once I get firmly established here in my new location (moved)

What group are you thinking of getting into? I'm personally a fan of the VDCA cause a) I kinda grew up around those guys, and b) they're inexpensive, which is nice for a broke college kid like me =p

And Skeletor, I'm hopin to put that GTO on the podium!

GTMail, thanks for sharing, I havn't tried to get a handle on the Cobra yet, so I'll give your tune a try. JLawrence, if your planning a podium, I strongly recommend practice. We've got a very talented group of GT5 drivers in here, you really gotta work for a good finish. Our races next Sunday (pending psn) should be as follows:

Group 2 at Daytona Road Course (7 laps)
Group 1 at Daytona Speedway (15 laps)
And time permitting Group 2 at Daytona Speedway (15 laps)

Practice/qualify starts around 8:00 pm EST race starts at 9:00

Actually, the 15 lap races may be shortened, the laps were shortened from the original OP but I don't remember if we had discussed the speedway laps.

And just so everyone is on the same page, I believe it was decided that the first lap of each race will be a pace lap, with the pole position driver leading us to the starting line

I'm right now trying to really dial in this GTO. I'm not claiming to be the best driver by any means, but I'm hoping that whatever skill I have will be good enough to run with you guys!

I'm gonna try out that tune here in a bit and see how it works out fine tuning the Cobra is my next project when I finish with the GTO.

Try this for a Cobra 427 tune (w/ everything maxed out). It seems somewhat random, but I'll explain my logic afterwards:

Ballast- 50kg, position -50
Transmission- Set to 205
LSD- Initial Torque 51, Acceleration Sensitivity 49, Braking Sensitivity 52

Suspension (Front/Rear)
Ride Height- -15/-15
Spring Rate- 12.5/9.2
Dampers (Extension)- 7/6
Dampers (Compression)- 7/6
Anti-Roll Bars (Sway Bars)- 7/4
Camber Angle- 0.0/0.0
Toe Angle- 0.0/0.25
Brake Balance- 7/3

Ok, the Cobra with it's incredible amount of power and acute lack of weight will have large amounts of oversteer. To correct that I stiffened the front suspension, and gave the rear a small amount of positive toe, as well as a smaller sway bar in the rear. Setting the LSD high increases the lock in the differential and reduces wheel spin coming out of the corner (Acceleration Sensitivity) and braking into the corner (Braking Sensitivity), but even with that much lock the rear still has a tendency to slide out, so by putting 50kg in the front it off sets that greatly, and gives you quite a nice manageable amount of back-end movement coming out of a corner. It will still get away from you if you push too hard (obviously), so some care is still needed. Overall though, that set just works.

Why would you add weight to a car? Adjust your LSD way, way lower and don't mash the gas.Try that.If you look at 95% of all tunes on here you will not see any ballast added to them. The ballast is not accurate in this game.

I can see your tune is a lot more complex than mine. Also my horsepower is at 650 instead of maxed out for the series. I can also teel you know a lot more about fine tuning than I do. I will try your tune out to see how it goes. I'm just having trouble controlling the car under high speed breaking. Maybe your tune will fix that. I also like a little oversteer. So I'm probably going to be combining our two tunes. All that i know is that my Cobra seems faster than both the RM Comaro(spelling?) and Challenger.

Try this tune from LDP

Or this from Team LotusGT5

I started with the LSD basically as low as it would go and worked my way back up. Believe me I thought about that originally, because I hate to have any extra weight, but, believe it or not, it actually drives much much better with that little bit of ballast. If you have the LSD set low it allows for a lot more wheel spin, and therefore less control, the way I have mine set is more forgiving for one, and honestly faster than any I could manage with a different set. Remember dude, sometimes in racing you have to go slower to go faster.

I'm aware of the go slow to go fast route.Your adding 110 lbs of weight to the front end.How is your tire wear after 5 or 10 laps and does it nose dive in the corners?

It handles quite smoothly by comparison, and from all I've seen my tire wear isn't any worse than a usual car simply because with it doesn't slide nearly as much as it would otherwise.

What about the speed and acceleration of the car? On of the advantages that the Cobra has over these RM cars is the exit speed and top speed. I might sound dumb right now but i think if you add over 100 pounds to the car it would be just as heavy as the RM's.

GTmail ill test your tune for the Cobra against Kal and Skeletor's Camaro's to see if it truly can beat their cars.
Jlawrence i want to race you. Mudd you too, you seem like the one anticipating my GT350R tune the most.

200MphFord i will be eagerly awaiting the results. I must warn you though that the Cobra takes awhile to get used to compared to the RM cars. It will take about 10 to 20 laps to get used to the car but when I found that perfect line and control it beat my RM Challenger by more than two seconds around Laguna Seca and Daytona's roadcourse. And I am also eagerly waiting for you GT350R tune.

Yea, I think a true test of the Cobra tune would be to put it on Deep Forest against Kal and Skeletor's RM Camaro's.... on second thought, that might actually be kinda mean...lol
