What did you do in GT7 today?

After a few days off, I went right into the deep end, practicing for the GTWS. While waiting for the 7 pm CST slot, I took my third 3-star marathon Wheel of Despair of 10 (and pending the Plus run, 7th of 19 - my last report on Saturday included the Weekly Challenge tickets), which puked out a racing muffler for a car where I can at least use it.

I wore door #9 in my all-D/S lobby, with 11 points going to the winner. I really dislike this track, enough that, even had I not given up on qualifying, I wouldn't have. My top practice time of sub-1:49 would have easily taken the pole, but instead, I started 15th, the first of 2 cars to not take a time. There is an issue with penalties - the eventual winner (the other car to not take a time) had a multi-second penalty on the first lap, and he decided to take his pit stop while serving that penalty, saving several seconds, though not enough to fully explain his 12.5-second win.

As for my race, that threw my strategy of stopping on lap 1 out the window, so I stopped on lap 4 instead, not taking tires. I worked my way up to 6th, then 5th decided to pull over on the straight on the last lap; I wouldn't have got by otherwise. Thanks to somebody forgetting to stop, I finished 4th, grabbing 9 points.

For cash, I hit Sardegna with the Lexus SC430 GT500. Ho-hum. I also made sure my time trial times were still silver.

On the Plus account, I went to the 2008 Nissan GT-R GT500 for the Sardegna grind. At least the marathon Wheel of Despair wasn't yet another 3-star, though the 4-star gave the lowest-possible 10,000 Cr.

Did a 20-lap 1971 NASCAR custom race at Northern Isle oval. Then did a run of the Le Mans 700PP in my engine-swapped M3 to grind for more credits. Got 10k on a 4-star ticket. Bought a Challenger and set it up as a Barracuda replica for my Trans Am custom races. Bought a 98 Subaru and set it up as a Group A rally car. Bought a new Shelby GT350 and did the Windsor swap to add it to my "V8 Super Tourers" race.

Bombed the race at Fuji. Rain was moving in so I started on IM. Rain stopped short.
Set up a practice race at Interlagos for the Nations Cup.
Also made a livery for the Nations Cup, something very strange this time. My car looks like a yellow jacket or a bald headed hornet.
Did weekly challenges and golded the Interlagos CE.

I did the two Gr.4 Cup races using the Silvia Touring Car. I won the Brands Hatch race at the second attempt after making a couple of bad mistakes in the first race. I then came 2nd at the High Speed Ring, but it was an incredibly close battle.

I then tried a Quick Race with Sophy AI with the Sauber C9 and could only get 2nd place (Medium difficulty too :ill:)... Sophy is much better than the original AI, but I did notice that it has a tendency to use the whole track - arguably correct strategy, but at Le Mans, that means going way over the white lines onto parts of the track that are not normally used i.e. the sides of the track down Hunaudieres, that back in GT Sport would have earned you a penalty or voided your lap time. Still, it is a marked improvement in terms of unpredictability, though I felt the original AI was a bit more realistic insomuch as there was less bunching up of cars, and less cars taking unusual lines or making unexpected moves - you could always trust the original AI to do what it did!

I wish the races were (much) longer though - I'd love to see how Sophy behaves under blue flags, as this is a shortcoming of the original AI.

1. Banked Cr. 1.000.000 from Trial Mountain TT. Not very proud of this one but I never found the key for gold, because of the 3rd sector.

2. Completed the new weekly challenge. Except for the rally-cross in Catalogna, it was fun. Got 3 CRB on 5 races. Sold the Subaru VGT car won with the 6 ⭐ ticket.

3. Started the new TT at Lago Maggiore with Miss Civic. 7 sessions in a row of several laps each gave me a very promising 1:30.141.

So today i start at spa with the nissan R92CP i bought 2 days ago and did not drive yet. Got heavy rain twice during the race. Really like this weather change . Enough credit to buy the Porsche 959.

Then family wake up and we had breakfast , and once alone with Esther she had one hour before going school i ask her if she wanted to do a race and she did 700pp Le Mans.
So we had enough to buy the Shelby and th challenger.

At lunchtime as Esther Can Come back to eat at home , she wanted to play a bit do she drive the first 3 weekly event . First two she ask if she can try manual shifting , so she did on first two race and won. We use car a bit more powerfull to keep the fun for her , but managing manual at 10 .
She also did the clubman cup american 700 , but on auto , not an easy track and she won it.

Then i tried the super formula one , track i almost don't know. Did it once to finish 7 , managed only the last 2 lap to avoid penalty.
Will go back on it later .

Edit : finally won super formula at third attempt using medium tyre ,tc1 and auto shifting no stop.
Won also the Rallycross using 911 GT3 RS (992) '22 , i will redo it extremely fun one

6 star car ticket offer me this

Spa is best with a Group 3 car or some road cars that max out around 750pp. The Trans Am and the DeLorean will provide you with some challenging races. Tuning them for it is half the battle.

Well there it was to drive the nissan first Time.
Thank for the advice anyway 👍, i do it also .
Sometimes i just want to drive with weather change and i pick any car able to win easily ✌️
Like that i enjoy peacefully and make a few credit 😉
Because it's not online that i will make a lot

As usual, I've shared the replay in game for everyone (even for my "friends-but-not-very-friends").

5. Didn't had time to practice the High Speed Ring Challenge with the safety car... :(:nervous:

… I literally just get smashed off the track and give up frustrated every single time. …
Just keep going. If they are bad enough to punt you they are bad enough to make mistakes. You will catch them if you stay level headed.

Set up a practice race at Interlagos for the Nations Cup.
… golded the Interlagos CE.
Both are excellent ideas for nations practice. Will do both tomorrow.

  • Today I collected my silver million from the Supra GT500 time trial (silver #6 out of 9 entries so far)
  • Completed 4 out of 5 weekly challenges. I still don't have a SF car.
  • since I'm spending too much time with the RX8 and I had a 787b engine collecting dust in my garage.... I made an engine swap, bought some parts and made a 5 minutes livery for it.
The car is a rocket! Worth every penny. 😃

It was a painful day, and only partly because I picked up a pain in my left hip. On the GTP account, I collected my 1,000,000 Cr. for getting silver in the now-expired time trial, then struggled through the first 3 and into the 4th Weekly Challenge, mostly because I wanted to make things close:
  • At Alsace, I found the elder Alfa Romeo Giulia just a bit too slow, the older Renault Clio too fast, and the Porsche 356 Speedster just fast enough in a clean 3:17, with no new content.
  • At Grand Valley, I found the newest Honda Civic a touch too slow before settling on the 2020 Toyota GR Supra, with a 2004 Subaru Impreza showing up in the second race in a clean 5:31.
  • At Catalunya, I tried several times to get a clean race in with the Toyota 86 Gr.B before giving up on getting the bonus and finishing in 6:38.
  • I kept losing focus at Mount Panorama, and found the Chevrolet Corvette C7 unable to catch the rabbit C8. I did find a tuned Camaro ZL1 with racing tires could turn laps faster, and the rabbit was buried in the field, but I crashed out before finishing.
To add insult to injury, the 4th 3-star Wheel of Despair of 11 (and pending the Plus run, 8th of 21) this month puked out the lowest-possible 5,000 Cr., but at least I got the two cash tickets from the Weekly Challenges.

On the Plus account, it was a 1-and-done (with many restarts chasing the CRB), with the SF23 Honda at Watkins Glen and a stop midway to replace the RS tiresk, done cleanly in 17:53. That was a mild surprise because when the race first came out, I had to dumb down to easy difficulty.

Another surprise was that the workout Wheel of Despair was a 4-star instead of a 3-star. That was the only change from normal, as the wheel spat out the lowest-possible 10,000 Cr.

Made 1,500,000 Cr. doing 9-10 out of 11-12 grinds at Hypercar Parade with the CRB to buy the Carrera Speedster without the roof, added a historic Pepsi 50-60's design on it and ran it on some custom races.

Obviously I have no idea how to tune suspensions, I usually put settings on it like, 75%-100% of the max, especially the Natural Frequency as I'm not a fan of the view wobbling even on a flat road, kinda throws me off.

I was quite positively impressed that when the AI rammed me I finished the race with the CRB intact.

I’ve barely played since FM23 came out but I have almost every car in that game now so I’ve decided to divide my time more evenly between games. I only had 60k credits so it was grind time. I started with a round of Sardegna in the McLaren F1 GTR ‘97 and I somehow ran out of fuel twice after missing the pit and I ended up 5th. Very Rusty, but the next round in the Sauber C9 went as expected and I got first. Then round of Spa in the same car and first again. Then a round of LM in the Ford GT40 MkIV and another 1st. I had a good bit of credits and engine swapped the Porsche Cayman GT4, applied Praiano’s tune, and ran it at Sardegna which was about as fun as Sardegna can be. After that I bought the Brand Central cars from the last update, and decided to call it a day.

The VR makes such a difference and the wheel and pedals blow the crappy Xbox controller out of the water. The PS5 controller is also much better than the Xbox controller.

I am also much better at time trialing than at races. The extra layer of adjusting your lines to what your opponents are doing and generally employing race craft is too tough for me for now.

As for someone who learned to cope with less clean drivers without retaliating and still being quick I recommend Tidgney and Rory on youtube. Their clean close racing looks like magic to me.
In my case, it's a bit reversed. In time trials, I showcase a certain pace, but I'm definitely not a pole position master. The benefit comes out during the race, and in 8 out of 10 cases, I manage to make up 2 - even 5 positions. There are races where starting from the 14th position, I reach 3rd - 2nd. I always stay away from trouble and always leave space. I can drive closely behind a rival, on the verge of contact, without hitting them. I can navigate through Eau Rouge or 130R without any contact, hugging left or right, but it requires mutual respect for fair play rules. These rules are the same for everyone, so if two drivers adhere to this set of guidelines, there's no talk of a foul.

I won a random (cannot remember the proper name) Toyota from 5 star roulette, which looks like a Gr1 car but is only 480 ish bhp but weighs next to nothing. I entered the 900 PP world challenge race at Trial Mountain, with RH tires and only upgraded to medium turbo to get up to circa 550 bhp mark.

Played with Map 2 and Map 1 throughout the race, no pit and on max difficulty settings. Won by over 30s and cleared a nice 250k credit from the clean race bonus.

Also did a few Sport Mode races as that's what I usually do 99% of the time :)

I started on the Weekly Challenge. Started with the Super Formula 1st. I thought I had a SF19 that won from a 🎫 but I forgot I sold it so I had to buy a new one so I opted for the SF23. I ended restarting quite a few times because I have never used it before and I feel like I was too cautious in the car and taking turns to slow to keep pace with the AI. So left that alone and went back to the beginning. Got to the that horrible Rally cross track and tried 3 different cars until I settled on the Group B Mustang which works for the race. I did get a chance to finish yet. Got an S bore up for Mono that I sold 🤣🤣🤣

1. Tried many times to save my gold on TT Lago Maggiore with Miss Civic, without succeed... :( Back in silver for few hundreds secs :irked: Will do my best to get back in the "Yellow" club as soon as possible.

3. Visited Le Mans with Gozilla for credits reasons :sly:

2. Because a "friend" was faster than me on this CE, I've decided to improve my previous PB (0:19.074) to regain my leader seat. Done!

Speaking about CEs, there are 2 ways to select those to practice:
  • the ones you have not yet golded 🥇
  • the ones where a German friend is faster than you

I actually haven’t played all week, it’s been too cold I just haven’t felt like it. I’d best get back into it tomorrow though or else I’ll miss the R92CP

Today was good gaming session:

  • Firstly tackled the Civic Time trial and after a few laps acheived a 1:29.7 folllowing Tidgney ghost woohoo! That's silver for my controller boffs, now, but plenty of room for improvement to catch the speed aliens!
  • 2nd, Then went onto do some of the weekly challenge race, Sunday cup and others with LFA and 4C tuned, ESCUDO in Catalunya Rally challenge.
  • 3rd, I modified soem engine mods/swaps and put the V6 NISMO DRETT engine into the ALPINE A110, tuned it 1024hp and it became mental and really crazy to drive around, so much boost, did some shakedowns at Tsukaba and SPecial Stage Route X.

Will post pics tomo. ADDED - Gratitous HONDA S660 TUNED DRIFTING photo!
Gotta shave off three secs to get even remotly clsoe to jeddah racing lol in the VTEC broooo!

Today I realised/finally admitted to myself that Kaz and the gang don't care about me/us anymore... the OGs that have been there since GT1.
Why? Because we're old... we're not the target market anymore... I mean if Sport wasn't the biggest warning of this, the state of 7 should be an eye opener.
Still less content than Sport had. Weekly events aren't new they're just making us play the same old crappy events you wouldn't touch ever again if it wasn't for the tickets they now offer. Grand Valley... one of the original iconic tracks and not only was it late to the party, it's not even recognisable anymore... so why bring it back at all? Oh and the lack of actual races... instead more of this start 30+ seconds down with 5-7 laps to chase down in an OP car compared to the rest of the field.
Nope, they want the kids on it who want nothing but instant gratification, are willing to throw every penny and every spare moment they have at the game, going online, streaming content etc etc. Sure there's less micro transactions than 6 & Sport but they're there still.
The series peaked at 4 and it's been more or less downhill from there, dwindling content, sloppy AI, less and less racing. They promised the world with GT7 and underdelivered, 8 will be no different, the best us OGs can hope for is a remake/port of one of the originals, which will never happen.
But don't worry I'll be back on next week for an hour when the next 5 rehashed events drop and no doubt another underwhelming update, while I try and fall back into denial that Gran Turismo as we use to know it is long dead. 😮‍💨
Rant over, enjoy your weekend.

Try using an underpowered car, i find it really enjoyable when the AIs beat you on the straights and fast sections but you can outmanoeuvre them on the corners. You can get some really close races that way. More fun than online actually for me.

I kind of agree with a lot of the other stuff you said though, but I will say GT7 is a big improvement on the previous three games. I think there’s still hope that they will add or and extend the SP content. If the devs are indeed listening to feedback (and why wouldn’t they be), literally every negative review such as on metacritic is highlighting the oddly sparse feeling selections of stuff to do.

I picked up where I left off. On the GTP account, I used a Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 modified for the Sarthe grind at Mount Panorama, and 11:24 (and a restart) later, I picked up my FIFTH 3-star Wheel of Despair of 12 (THIRD in a row) this year. That, once again, upchucked the lowest-possible 5,000 Cr.

The Toyota SF19 made short, dirty work of Watkins Glen, in 17:59. The car wheel for completing the Weekly Challenges was kinder - it gave me a X2019, which got flipped for 1,285,500 Cr.

On the Plus account, I victimized the overpowered Corvette C8 at Mount Panorama with the Dodge Tomahawk S in 10:15. Because I chased the CRB (a tricky proposition in the Tomahawk), at that point, I got my FIFTH 3-star Wheel of Despair of 12, and TENTH of 24 between the two accounts, this year, like the last couple on the GTP account, puked out the lowest-possible 5,000 Cr.

After finding the Italdesign utterly useless, I did some dirty driving in the Mitsubishi Evo IV to knock off the Catalunya WRC in 6:43 (did I mention I hate the dirt, and especially this track?). I used the Evo because I could double up at Grand Valley with an old Exeter tune meant for the Clubman Plus 550 PP events, where I saw a Nissan R32 NISMO added to the mix. That went in 5:31.

I finished with some seal-clubbing at Alsace, using the 2022 Porsche 911 to do the deed in 2:34. The car ticket gave a SF19 Toyota, which I hung onto for tuning purposes.
