Anyone ever managed an exactly identical lap time?? 1st time it ever happened to me!
Me too. Quick (and very dirty) math says that it should be more likely than not after about 1400 laps which is roughly 35 hours of seat time. After 6000 laps the probability of never having two duplicate lap times after another is less than 5%.I did too![]()
The big caveat here is the assumption that there is an equal chance of getting a lap time anywhere within +/- 1 second (2 second total window) of the previous one every single time. In reality this relationship is probably normally distributed with times closer to the last lap being more likely than times which deviate more strongly. But that calculation would take me some time to research. I think my assumptions are reasonable. It of course also depends on skill level because better drivers have a higher chance of getting an equally good time next lap because they don't deviate that much. The true numbers will probably be somewhere between 800 and 2000 laps for more likely than not. Unless we're talking Daytona for which it could be even less. The math also depends on the difficulty and lenght of the track.
Edit: +/- 1 second
Edit2: clarified what I mean with +/- 1 second
