What Do You Expect From PD In GT5?

I did a search and suprised this thread hasn't been made. :)

What do you expect from PD this time around?

I expect that PD would put more cars into the game, as usual, rather than fix gameplay.

...That they would make it a requirement to get a HDTV.

...That they would not give a damn about weather.

...That they would add more understeer, and make it impossible to drift, but how would I know? I didn't play GTHD.

...That they would make it impossible to break out. I hope not... :nervous: Each GT game, it becomes harder and harder to breakout, so they might work on that again.

What do you expect from PD in GT5?

Seriously, you can curse me out if you see a thread just like this. I did a complete search, or is it that the search function stinks here? Or I stink at searching?

EDIT: I hope that this thread isn't considered noobish... :nervous:

It would be a stupid marketing thing to make someone get an HDTV to play a game. While more and more people are getting them, they still are outnumbered by SDTV's. The PS3 and the 360 work fine on a SDTV.

More like a hopeful list of what PD might do, rather than what I think they will do:
-Damage would be nice (and the option to turn it off)
-Better 'Special Conditions':indiff:
-Variable weather (option to turn off)
-less Skylines!! It's a great car, but do we need every single little variant?:ill:
-Porsche, Lamborghini, Weissmann, Bugatti, etc.
-Ability to hit & dismember spectators!!
-Even more realistic physics eg. ability to do doughnuts/ flip cars etc.
-Possibility for car to go off course and get wrecked/ fall off cliff/ go through building and lose race altogether.
-Point to point racing

In other words, even more realism.:dopey:

-Even more realistic physics eg. ability to do doughnuts/ flip cars etc.

If we can't do do-nut and handbrake turns in GT5 then I for one will be very disappointed.

However you not going to see the second one as long as the game features road cars, same for any sim with licenced road cars. Two things that manufacturers simply are not going to allow to be modelled is damage to the passenger area of a car (so nothing past the A or C pillar) and cars rolling or flipping.

I was thinking of starting a similar thread myself, so it's not at all noobish. ;)

What I expect:

  • At least 400 cars, perhaps 800.
  • 60 tracks, including fantasy tracks from previous Gran Tourismos, such as Red Rock Valley.
  • Race modification, with custom bodykits and performance upgrades from name brand manufacturers.
  • A powerful paint shop with text fonts, national flags and decal tools.
  • Downloadable content.
  • More supercars including Ferrari (obviously), Porsche (possibly, at least RUF), and others.
  • Dynamic weather with options.
  • Time of day changes from day to night, with options.
  • Damage, with options.
  • Driving assists such as stability control, anti-lock brakes, etc, with options.
  • Improved A.I. with trainable bots.
  • More Rally events.
  • A true Career Mode.
  • From 12 - 20 cars per race on asphalt, 4-8 cars in Rally events. 12 cars or so online on asphalt.
  • Detailed environments and lifelike spectators.
  • Online tools to enable the creation of racing clubs, race events, tournaments, swap meets, etc. Race events hosted by Polyphony as well as (possibly) by automakers and game magazines.
  • Stat tracking and leaderboards, tallying the best racers from around the world.
  • But wait, there's more to come. :dopey:

i don't want to see damage on gt5, polyphony says gt is the real driving simulator and so they will take this notion to the extreme, it will totally ruin the driving experience if the gameplay is affected by the hindrance of real life damage. i want to be able to save during any race that i am in, this certainly helps during endurance races, i had to keep my ps2 on during the night to keep my progress in 24 hour nurburg on the gt4

I forgot to mention that I expect them to let you run over pedestrians at the Grand Canyon. They making me pissed. :grumpy:

Great post Tenacious D! I couldn't agree with you more.

I have a LOT of over the top ideas so just write the most important futures I want in GT5 down:

1. In car-view, aka cockpit view or dashboard camera.I wouldn’t have a problem if PD cant make cockpit views for all cars, IMO I don’t need 700 cars, give me 500 or 400 with cockpit view and I am fine; in car view is a must have if PD still wants to make the ''real driving simulator''. An adjustable seat would be also a great feature, and there should be a pair of hands at the driving wheel, it feels very odd to have a driving wheel which spins without hands on it.
2. Better AI What can I say about that? The AI of GT is very bad, I want intelligent race driver opponents which overtake only if its save, I don’t like the kamikaze style of GT drivers. Having safety-minded drivers which take care of their cars and recognize you is a extremely needed feature which must be in GT5. Its the biggest drawback of the GT-series, and its not so hard to do that they cant make it.
3. Engine sound I am not an expert and I don’t know what PD did false with the GT4 engine sounds, but they are too weak and the lack of the ''power'' sound really kills the atmosphere. Its also odd that some engines sound almost the same even if there is a difference of 3 litres and 4 cylinders! IMO its not extremely important to record all original car sounds, its much more important that engine sounds are kinda logical. I also hope PD improves the turbo sound, they don’t sound all the same, there should be a difference between a high powered race car engine turbo which propels the air to almost sonic speed and the every day turbo of a supra. Just making the turbos ''hiss'' louder doesn’t solve the problem.
4. Night / Day change, if PD cannot make weather they should at least make night / day changes of all tracks, especially on tracks with 24 or 12 hours enduros. It would also add a lot more atmosphere to the track. I imagine a feature which allows you to adjust the time you want to start the race. Wouldn’t it be great to drive at the Ring at the crack of dawn? PD would also have to add real car lights for this feature!
5. Weather As discussed in another thread, I would like to have weather in GT5. Nothing extravagant , just rain, wind, and a changing skybox.
Wind should affect cars downforce or aearodynamic, in a bad way, rain should turn into heavy mist at high speed straights and behind cars and should blur the view in the cockpit, and the wiper should work like in real live too. Rain tires and intermediate tires would be a necessity.
6. Track atmosphere PD made a lot of pretty tracks, but a lot of them suffer of a lack of atmosphere. As example lighting is one problem, IMO some tracks have a shiny weather but the lighting is like on a cold rainy day. But that’s not all, I wish PD would add ( weather independent) puddles, random wet spots on the tarmac or little misty places to the tracks to give them a bit more character. Or at Laguna Seca some sand on the track would be cool; adding spectators to the Nürburgring would also be a nice addition, mabye a few tents with spectators and smoke of spectators having a BBQ at the Karussell. :dopey:
Heat waves is also a great idea, which I read somewhere in this thread.👍
7. Full pit-stop control and yellow flag / safety car periods, real racing rules Its an important part of racing in real live racing, the AI should make some crashes with their cars and the safety car should pop out like in real life. It would make and advantage, you could go into the pits during a safety car period without losing too much time.
Full pit stop control is a must in GT5, drivers aren’t stupid, we can drive into the pits with speed limit and stop at our pit crews.
Another rule feature I want in GT5 is when the AI crashes you very hard they should be DQ or they should make an extra pit stop. I think I don’t need to mention that I want the whole pit lane crowded with pit crew members.
8. Real races Also a big drawback of GT3 and GT4, GT2 had a lot of races where race cars of ONE CLASS drove for the first place. Its just stupid to have a 40 year old LM race car racing against a LMGTP Audi R8 and a 88 group-C car. :dunce: Please PD, make GT5 races like in real life.
9. Body kits and engine overhaul Engine wear does not make sence if we cannot do anything to get the power back. In real life race cars get an engine overhaul after almost each race to prevent the engine of losing power.
Body kits should be als included in GT5, I don’t need to mention that its unreal to buy a rear wing which can also increase the front downforce.
There are a lot of body parts which would make a highly tuned cars better looking and a lot faster.
PD started with a rear wing, they should continue with front and rear fins, a set of different front spoilers, NACA ducts and intakes which create a better airflow to the turbos to add power, and maybe even underbody ducts and diffusors to increase downforce dramatically.
Of course these features would consume a LOT of programming and coding time so I am pretty sure we don’t get that kind of car customizing.
10. Race modification In GT2 it was a great future, I want it back!
11. Porsches Its time for Porsches, really it is! RUF's are nice but they are not Porsches. And no, I am not satisfied with 3 or four different 911 versions, I really like to see the great Porsche race cars.
I expect to see the Porsche 917, 917-30 Langheck and Kurzheck, the 935 Moby Dick, the 936, the Rothmans Porsche 956, some different versions of the 962 like the IMSA Busby Miller 962 (gold & white with low custom aerofoil) or the Löwenbräu 962with its unique extra spoiler at its front nose. They are legends and they were giants in their time.

That’s the most important stuff PD should add! :)

👍 👍 👍 Couldn't agree more. Those cars are ALL TIME giants. And it is a pitty that we have Le Mans, we already have the GT40, we'll have Ferrari (I hope we get the 512 LM coda lunga) and NO 917 to drive with or battle against ...

i personally don't think much will change in gt4 -> gt5 other than graphics. they'll tweak everything, but it'll still probably play alot like gt4.
they'll have a drift mode obviously and i wouldn't be surprised if they put in challenges like in tourist trophy, where you had to pass the people ahead of you within 2 laps to get a car and stuff like that.
you'll probably be able to customize your driver too with helmets and clothing, making an online avatar for yourself.
I assume no more than 8 cars on track at the same time, and probably no upgrade in low speed maneuvers like doughnuts and burnouts.
I can see changing the colour of your car a possibility, but no other real visual modifications other than a spoiler and wheels, though if there is online play perhaps they'll allow small bannertype decals.
One would assume that gt5 would be pretty different since its on a whole new console, but how gt2 -> gt3 wasn't a super upgrade other than graphics and how polyphony now seems to be more about graphics and polycount, I don't have high hopes for GT5, but it would absolutely be awsome if i was wrong. In that recent french interview, they said that pd employs like 40 or 50 people to work for them on gt, i definitely wouldn't be surprised if 10 of them were hired to do location analysis/making, 10 of them hired to model new cars that weren't in the game before, 5 of them to do texture work, 5 of them to do audio work, and 10 guys to do model upgrades to cars previously scanned in for gt 3 and 4, so that leaves barely anyone else to do actual physics upgrades, tweeks and whatnot.

I am in 100% agreement with Micheal88...

I think we have enough cars as it is, perhaps PD just needs to be more selective...Less Skylines this time eh? I would prefer to have more real-life tracks than more cars (such as SPA, Hockenheim).

And +1 on the Porsches!!! I'd love to add the 911 2.7RS, 959, 993GT2, 911 GT1, the GT3 variants, 928GTS, 914/6, Cayman S, 968 CS, 550 Spyder, 904 GTS & Carrera GT to your wonderful list.

More cars on a rally track that sounds a bit dumb to me but what do I know about the ways of PD. I'd Have to agree with SSJChar and afc2112 otherwise. Never thought I'd say this but up with porsche and down with the skyline.

1. Better physics. I know it won't happen, but I'm hoping for die hard sim physics. What's the point of driving a car if it doesn't handle like the real thing?

2. Better engine sounds. Get the real sounds this time around. It should be possible with the PS3 (unless of course they spend all the processing power on graphics, which wouldn't surprise me.)

3. Better AI. I don't think I need to explain myself here.

Just my humble opinion.

When you get down to it, the capacity differences between the PS1 and PS2 weren't that great. The XBox was dramatically more powerful, primarily because of built in LAN/networking and the universal hard drive. Why was Forza capable of providing a comprehensive paint and mod shop, with hundreds of decals and vinyls? The hard drive.

I expect a huge jump in Gran Turismo 5 over it's predecessors.

I Don't expect to be able to tune my "licence car" :nervous: or my "mission car":scared: because everybody should have a car that "PD" people set up. I mean you know everyone's car settings are the same just as are their driving styles.

The one thing I want from PD is a good game, a real or great game would be nice but I'll be happy with a good game for GT5, GT6 (if there is one) on the other hand I expect to be the best racing sim ever.

I don't believe in expectations. I expect to one day be able to play the game and enjoy it as much as I can for as long as I live and eventually get a PS3. The PlayStation 3 is capable of a number of different effects. Question is... will PD cash in and make the best GT experience ever (until the next one)? Or will it be kind of a training exercise much like GT3 was on the PS2? Most people look for the most radical and unrealistic uses of the PS3's power. I usually look at what's acheivable... then turn up the volume with much more to offer. Since there's basically no more E3, we'll have to look to the Tokyo Game Show to see what PD has up their sleeves. News has been pretty slow, so I have my concerns about GT5. My real expectations are pretty low because I don't want to have some wild dream about GT5 all to be disappointed. I let the game come to me and not have some extravagant view of GT5. If it turns out to be mediocre, then so be it. I'm sure PD is doing everything they can to avoid mediocre. So I have low expectations for this one.

On another end, I am hopeful that PD can make a Gran Turismo that doesn't get as many cheap shots from gaming media and certain forum participants (not necessarily GTPlanet). Low expectations, high hopes. That's me.

I expect PD to get the cars specs right, since Toronado proved that the Volvo 240GLT Estate was 500Kg lighter IRL than it is in GT4, and the Opel Speedster Turbo, as it is 200Kg heavier than the Normal Opel Speedster. The Jay Leno Tank Car redline is off by 4000RPM+. Also, engine swaps would be nice, I always wanted a Subaru 360 with a Fiat 500R engine, so it can be much faster fully tuned. Nothing like a TVR Speed 12 in a Motor carriage. Also I agree on that Porsche comment, what is RUF without Porsche? They should add a little bit more customization for looks, nothing too fancy, and the ability to make steering response slower or faster, like in NFSU2. :)

-> Heres my take:

I hope PD:
- To provide the best experience out of GT5 for the next 6 years or the next sequel (GT6) arrive, that will aliviate all the mumbling of waiting for the next big one.
- Memory card integration from past GTs, all the cars that you saved along with your profile will be transferred in GT5.
- Upload your best times from GT1-4.
- Progressive physics, the cars will have similar or distinct physics change during gameplay.
- Downloadable content from PS store for free.
- Upload your own images thru URL, SD, Flash, etc. Essential for creating your own logos at Photoshop.
- Make use of the Eye-Toy, like uploading your own personal I.D./picture for your own profile/racing license.
- Also make the PSP usefull too, like your cars overrall stats (like individual tire wear like F1CE, engine temp, fuel, etc. but not the speedo/tech) to show up on the PSP screen, this will only benefit PSP users.
- 250 race tracks for starters, the rest will be downloadable (with a total 500 tracks)
- Climate/weather changes, in fact if its a real track (like Laguna Seca), real time weather should be a nice option feature.
- 2,500 cars to start with, and same as the race tracks can also be downloaded (with a total of 5,000-10,000 cars).
- Spectator control: If its a time attack run there will be little or no crowds at all; If its a big race (like the 25hr Nurb race) its going to be like Woodstock (people all over the race track)
- More point-to-point racing for Drifting or Rallying.
- Return everything that was missed out/eliminated from past GT's (for example: HP restrictions, Complex Sting, GT1's version of High Speed Ring, SSR11-GT1, SSR11-GT3, Rome Circuit including Rome Night, Vector's, Venturi's, past GT tracks that went missing, past GT cars that went missing)
- A website or forum on where we could post our opinions/suggestions directly to PD, GTPlanet would be the best site for that. ;)

(:

I don't think you are going to see free downloads, it would be nice and I'm sure you'll see a few free sponsored ones but with these next gen systems the companies see how much money there is to be made off of DLC.

i wish for free downloads.
to tell you the truth, i only wanna see a couple things in gt5
1.better a.i--i.e swurves around you when you hit the brakes
2.day and night--you have no idea how much i was annoyed by the 24 hor daylight thing in gt4

aww man,,,
you read my mind. have drags races between high powered drag racers...:dopey: :dopey:
aww man,, did you know those cars can go from 0mph to over 300 mph in less than 6 seconds.
how about go-carts??

Likely to happen:

300 variations of Skylines
Porsche, Lamborghini, and Ferrari are once again left out
same crap AI
mostly Japanese cars w/ limited selection of other cars
lame American V8 engine sounds, but perfect Japanese car sounds
cars will understeer even worse

Wish list:

Every car maker is equally represented.
smart, compentent, realistically behaving AI
All cars sound like they're supposed to.
realistic weather changes

👍

actually, i couldn't help but notice that my nissan skyline sounds close to my audi r8. i think they should work on car sounds.
another thing and the big thing is the A.I
i would actually like them to think. race their own way instead of following a stupid race line. i noticed when driving that i can slow down, the car behind me will ram me or slow down drastically. then it will try to pass me but very slowly. all i do is speed up a little and they seem to stay behind me

Before:

After:

I forgot that they should add minor customization to looks atleast. CF hoods, black painted wing, and black painted rims would be nice... A paint shop would be great! Being able to paint the body panels...

i want for the team to make the game good :D

and I really wish the most cars that can race, 20+ cars at same time.

What I expect from the following categories...

  • Weather: Of course, they should add weather, need I say more? Imagine driving in the rain on the Nurburgring. :sly:

  • Customization: More customization, including rim size, wings from different cars (Example: Nissan Skyline GT-R R32 wing on the Nissan Skyline Type-M R32,) Body kits from other cars, with exceptions of cars like the R92CP, etc, and the ability to remove the engine wear. :dopey:

  • A.I.: Of course better A.I. PD's A.I. tend to crush, kill and destroy! Especially on Citta Di Aria. They don't weave around me, they push me out of the way, making my Nissan Stegea get stuck between two walls, because of it's massive size. WTF!! Also A.I. that doesn't run over a certian wall over and over and over and over. :banghead:

  • Tournaments: More races for cars under 100HP, more strict rules for entering races, no penalties, just more races in general for cars that don't have a place to race. Also have A.I. that picks cars to match your cars specs. 💡

  • Rallying: Street rallying is cool, but get rid of dirt and snow rallying. It's sickening, we get a penalty for the A.I. bumping us, stopping on a straightaway in front of us, and overtaking us, taping the front of the car. I love street rallying like Citta Di Aria and others, because they have a sort of rhythm to it, that no other board can offer. Only have snow, ice, and wind on normal tracks where snow, etc is possible. :)

  • Cars: Have a decent amount of cars, 400-500 is enough for me, as long as those are good car choices. I'm sure we are going to see over 1000 cars, but I will be fine with half of that. If they add a car like the Motor Carriage again, I am going to be pissed. Also let you tune your car to a more realistic HP. I always wanted a really fast Subaru 360, GT3 let you tune your cars for higher HP, why did they lower it? The Suzuki Alto Works had 238HP in GT3, but now it's limited to 125HP in GT4. And of course Engine Swaps. Imagine a Subaru 360 with a RUF CTR2 engine!! :D

Just my 2 cents...
