What games are you playing now?

More plays of late...

* I bought the Tomb Raider series. I previously had the first Tomb Raider, and I only made it as far as Level 3. Revisiting Tomb Raider 1 was a cool experience. As I have never played TR2 or TR3, both experiences were brand-new to me in piloting British babe Lara Croft. I struggled so hard in TR2's opening level in China that I just gave up trying to clear it. TR3's opening stage in India wasn't exactly difficult, but very tricky. Some of Lara's mechanics were a bit cooler than in past TR games. I still struggled to get very far.

* Another game I previously had was Unreal. I got Unreal Gold, which is the Unreal experience before the wildly successful Unreal Tournament series. This was going to be a new experience as I previously did not have a capable PC to take on the first Unreal back then. I didn't get too far in my casual play. In fact, I had to repair the game when I made a graphics setting that caused the game to keep crashing.

* The most unique experience was with the Little Big Adventure series. These games featured the hero Twinsen. This was a clever two-game series with lovely cartoon graphics. Previously, I had played "Twinsen's Odyssey" as a demo from a PC Gamer demo disk. I mostly played the first Little Big Adventure as I have never played it before.

The coolest thing about all of this is that I am playing the full version of many games that I have played mostly as shareware or demos. This is at least 25 years worth from these experiences. Shame it's taken me this long in my life, but I am finally enjoying most games the way they were meant to be enjoyed, even on modern hardware. I am enjoying all of this while taking a break from Stardew Valley.

[OMISSION] Rumor has it that a third Little Big Adventure game is in the works. Should be cool news with such a fun series!

I bought The Long Drive as a super-late birthday gift for me.

I have so far managed to, in the process of learning the controls, drink both oil and gas almost as soon as I figured out how to get out of a car. The game is so janky I have kinda fallen in love with it for that reason.

The PS5 I won came with Vanguard, and whilst I don't particularly care for CoD, you can't look a gift horse in the mouth.

Here it is with the PS2 that I've had since Christmas 2001.

I have been fully intending to pick up Art of Rally now it is on PS4, but haven't got round to it yet. Saw that Absolute Drift (from the same developer) was on sale last weekend (for a bank breaking £2), so I thought I'd give it a go.

I wasn't sure on my first play, but once I stepped the difficulty up I absolutely love it. Simple but challenging handling, clean presentation and just fun.

Is that your original console!! That is in mint condition!
Still have my ps2 in the loft but god knows where all the cables and controllers are lol

Currently playing:
Forza Horizon 5
Hotwheels Unleashed
Far Cry 6

Planning to start a new single player sci-if action/adventure/shooter series from the beginning soon, doubting between Mass Effect Trilogy, Halo MCC or Gears of War. I have each of them with their highest fidelity on Xbox Series X (including Halo Wars 1&2 and Gears Tactics) and never properly played any of them before ☺️ (apart from dipping into the older versions of Halo CE and Mass Effect in the past for a few hours).

Currently playing FH5. AMS2. F1 2021. Half-Life Alyx. Just finished Guardians of the Galaxy.

Completely different games there. You got an RPG, cover-based shooter and FPS. Guess it just comes down to what your in the mood for the most lol.

Yeah I know. ☺️ To be honest it doesn’t really matter if it’s a shooter or an RPG, I’m just in the mood for a good story driven sci-fi game that is set on other planet(s) than earth. I haven’t played that many games like this before but I really liked the story aspect of StarCraft 2, I think I’m looking for something like that. Heck, I even liked the setting of Anthem a lot, sadly that game had a lot of other issues.

I think I’m leaning towards Mass Effect or Halo the most. Also while Gears of War 2 and 3 have been given the X1X resolution boost and XSX FPS boost, they aren’t true remasters like the first game. Still the Gears universe looks fascinating, but the same can be said about the other two. 😄

I played The Ascent this year and it meets your criteria. It's one of the best Cyberpunk/Scifi games I have played. It is a twin stick shooter with Diablo like aesthetics and the world is simply amazing. It's free on Game Pass and they just released a big patch fixing most of the issue it had at release.

Edit" I started playing thru the Mass Effect trilogy when it was rereleased last year and it is the best version of those game that you are gonna get but honestly, graphically it still looks dated in many places.

It is the same one, but it's only clean on that surface because I was taking the picture. The vents are pretty clogged, but you can't really tell from that angle.

I just got my first ever platinum trophy with Death Stranding Director’s cut. The grind was awful, now I want to delete the game and be done with it.

I finished Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. Great game

Now I'm on The Pathless. It took a little time to get the hang of it, but it's pretty fun. It should be a relatively short game and I'll be going on to Deathloop afterwards.

Final Fantasy XIV: Queue Waiting Edition. Pretty sure I've spent more time in queue than playing the game in the last day, but that's sort of part of the charm of MMO xpac launches. :)

Here was my little harlequin Golf-inspired wagon in my now-prior The Long Drive save, having deleted it after exhausting my self-imposed "one reload after janky death" rule because not too long after these pictures I hit a rock, flipped many times, and got caught in a glitchy mess trying to exit my car to fetch the radiator which flew out of the engine bay.

God I love how absurd this game is.

I mainly been playing Yakuza Kiwami & Forza Horizon 5 on my PS4 & PC respectfully. Mostly doing all of the side content in the former and messing around with local friends in the latter.

Installed Uncharted 4 onto the PS5 last night. As much as I enjoyed the first few chapters when I initially got it on PS4, I never went back to it to go further into it.

Now it's on a new console, I've started a new save so I can experience it all over again.

I completed "Spear of Destiny" this past weekend. Now, I am mostly focused on "Outlaws" and "Little Big Adventure."

The AI isn't exactly overpowered in Outlaws, but you really need to take cover when battling the enemies. Things will mostly be okay on "Good" level. However, doing "Bad" or "Ugly" (the hardest difficulty) means you'll need to take more cover. You may even deal with enemies who use double-barrel shotguns or throw dynamite on Ugly level. One thing you need to remember is that you need to manually reload your weapons. This game will NOT reload for you.

Little Big Adventure is a pretty fun game. At times, though, trying to figure out what you need to do can be a problem. Some of the game mechanics are a bit wonky, but it is a pretty cool game. I previously played the demo to "Little Big Adventure 2: Twinsen's Odyssey." Now I am mostly doing LBA1 just to get more familiar with Twinsen's story.

Back into COD Warzone

It’s the last dance in Verdansk today. We are in desperate need of a new large map but I’m definitely going to miss this one.

I started with the Halo franchise. All this Halo Infinite news got me intrigued I guess. 😄 Also I wanted to play it in timeline order, so I started with Halo Wars, next will be Halo Reach, then CE etc.

Having played many RTS games in the past like Age of Empires, Warcraft, StarCarft and Command & Conquer it’s actually fun to start with an RTS, this time even on console. Got some mixed feelings about a controller for RTS though, even though Halo Wars was built from the ground up with a controller in mind, I really miss hot keying units like in the old days on PC.

The story so far is mediocre at best, the cutscenes are really nice though especially for such an old game.

Destiny 2, GTS, Pokémon brilliant diamond, Elite Dangerous, final fantasy 14. A little bit of each means I don't get bored with them.

Such a great game, finished it a good 6 or 7 times during my ps4 days.

Was hoping for a ps5 update to play it on ps5 once again but they went down the route of re-releasing it as a remaster :/

I've been a dad for a week and a half now, it's becoming apparent that I was being optimistic when I started Death Stranding again right before his due date! I don't think I'll be playing a game like that for a while.

I have however been able to complete the last two festival playlists in FH5, at least enough to get all the cars, since that's easy enough to pick up and drop as required. I did most of this week's list at 6:30 this morning because he refused to sleep anywhere but on me.

On the Vita, I've just finished Undertale which was great, I got the "middle" ending (neither pacifist nor genocidal) because I didn't realise there was an alternate solution to an encounter early in the game.

I've now moved on to 2064: Read Only Memories, I've tried to start it at least three times over the years but somehow have only just now gotten as far as meeting Turing - literally the first plot beat in the game. I'm not sure how well I'll be able to follow the story as I've had to suspend the game mid-conversation but it seems like it'll be good, so far it reminds me of Snatcher, but that's mainly because it's a cyberpunk investigative point and click game with voice acting, there's not much resemblance otherwise.

Can't wait to get my Steam Deck... After the two month delay I've been pushed from Q1 into Q2 so I'm probably on track for April/May. Maybe I'll be able to continue Death Stranding then?

Congratulations! 👶

55hrs of Hades and it just gets better and better. Maybe the most addictive game I've played for years, really good stuff.

Also working my way through Sekiro. Didn't finish it on PS4 but plays much better on PS5 at 60fps. Far easier to make those deflects now.

Bought GT Sport... probably going to shelf it. I mostly play racing games offline and the AI is really poor in this game, I never feel like I'm actually in a race, more of a procession.
So it'll be back to ACC once more. Night and day.

Might try Chivalry 2 for the free trail this weekend. Looks like a laugh.

I've mostly gone back to playing Stardew Valley after completing "Spear of Destiny" and "Terminal Velocity" recently. A lot has changed since my last play. I had to change up some settings to help Stardew Valley run quicker. Those changes worked. Other than that, I have surpassed 900K Gold in earnings, I recently built a stable, and my wife in the game, Emily, made an entire outfit for me! This already fascinating game just continues to fascinate.

Halo Wars ✅
Halo Reach : 25% done.

Wars was decent, a bit light on the strategy part but the cutscenes and voice acting were really good IMO.
Reach actually has a pretty decent campaign so far but probably more as a squad/team story rather than a true Halo Story. Love the Covenant vehicles. 😀

New save in The Long Drive:

That's not entirely how a car is supposed to car. All I did was clip a rock because I didn't pay attention to the road and yet SOMEHOW didn't die. Yet inadvertently climbing on a fridge was more dangerous that being literally eaten by the road.

I picked up Postal 2 a little while ago when it was on sale for like 4 bucks, and I have to say it's rather surprised me. Not the game itself, that's still as stupid and juvenile as it originally was (this is the one where you beat people to death with a clipboard for not signing an anti-video game violence petition), what surprised me is that not only did the developers bother to make it work properly on modern computers, but they even went out of their way to add Steam achievements and workshop support. And said workshop is pretty active too, so the upgrades were enough to actually bring in more of an audience. AND they made a DLC pack for it some 10 years after the fact just to explain why Postal 3 was never released (literally, "it was so terrible we scrapped it entirely and forgot it ever existed").

I admit, I enjoy the irony that some of the most high profile games of this particular era got "remasters" that made them noticeably worse than the originals, yet this mostly-forgotten game that was meant to be a middle finger aimed at Joe Leibermann did what a remaster is supposed to do and improved on the original's experience.
